HC plea seeks SIT probe into AYUSH Directorate of Delhi govt

A plea in the Delhi High Court has sought an SIT probe into the functioning of AYUSH Directorate alleging that it has failed to provide quality health care to the people of the national capital. The court has issued notice to the Delhi government and sought its response on the PIL which has alleged that there are irregularities in the functioning of the Directorate of AYUSH, an acronym for alternative medicines -- Ayurvedic, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V K Rao directed the government to file its reply before the next date of hearing on July 30. Wakefulness may predict if patients can breathe on their own: Study suggests

According to a recent study, patients who are critically ill are more likely to be successfully weaned from a ventilator or breathing machine if they have higher levels of wakefulness. "Patients under mechanical ventilation in intensive care units frequently suffer from severe sleep deprivation and, as a consequence, exhibit abnormal patterns of sleep or wakefulness, which explain in part the frequent development of delirium," said Brochard, senior study author.Findings of the study were published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.As the research explains, critical patients who are using the mechanical ventilator would respond much better if and when, both their right and left brains experience the same depth of sleep and have higher levels of wakefulness. Wockhardt gets USFDA not for generic prostrate cancer drug

Pharma and biotech major Wockhardt Ltd on Friday said it has received approval from the US health regulator for its generic prostrate cancer tablet abiraterone acetate. The approval granted by the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) is for 250mg tablet of abiraterone acetate, a generic version of Zytiga, marketed in US and other countries by Johnson & Johnson, the company said in a statement. Abiraterone is used to treat men with prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, it added. Commenting on the approval, Wockhardt Founder Chairman and Group CEO Habil Khorakiwala said, "This is one more product in Wockhardt's growing portfolio of oncology products in the US and has several pending ANDA's for oncology products." Ayushman Bharat and Uber ink partnership to facilitate free healthcare for drivers

A ride-sharing company has partnered with the government's flagship healthcare insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat, to facilitate free healthcare for several drivers associated with the firm. The National Health Authority (NHA), the apex body implementing the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) has inked an MoU with Uber. According to the agreement, Uber, under its Uber CARE initiative for driver and delivery partners, will facilitate the setting up of common service centres (CSC's) at Partners Seva Kendras across India. The CSC's village level entrepreneurs at these centers will help verify eligibility and issue e-cards to drivers for the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, which provides healthcare benefits worth Rs five lakh to each eligible family per year in government and empanelled private hospitals. Foundation laid for one of India's largest Unani institute in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad will soon boast of one of north India's largest Unani medicine institute for practice and research, foundation stone for which was laid by Union Minister of State (independent charge) for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik on Friday. The National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), being built at a cost of more than Rs 300 crore and will be spread in an area of 10 acres, is an extension of a similar facility in Bengaluru, but will have its own identity, Naik said. Govt okays continuation of several tertiary healthcare programmes

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday gave its approval for continuation of implementation of several tertiary healthcare programmes for non-communicable diseases and e-health up to 2020 with an outlay of Rs 2,551.15 crore. The healthcare programmes include strengthening of tertiary car cancer facilities scheme, national programme for healthcare of the elderly, national programme for prevention and management of trauma and burn injuries. It also includes National Programme for Tobacco Control and Drug Addiction Treatment, National Mental Health Programme, National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment and Programme for strengthening of e-health and tele-medicine services, an official statement said.
