Goa: Tourists give thumbs-up to law banning drinking, cooking in public places

Scores of visitors in Goa, which is considered to be the country's most popular tourist destination, hailed the decision taken by the state assembly recently to ban drinking and cooking in the open on beaches.Speaking to ANI, Subhash Kapoor, a resident of Mumbai, opined that this ban was much needed to keep the beaches in the state clean."In my view, the law banning drinking, cooking in public should not only be implemented here but all across the country. This was needed a few years ago too. 20 charged for deadly hotel fire in northeast China

Twenty people have been charged with criminal offenses for a deadly fire in a hotel in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province that killed 20 people. The deadly fire broke out at Beilong Hot Spring Leisure hotel in the tourist city of Harbin on August 25 last year and it took around three-and-a-half hours for 100 firemen and 30 fire engines to bring the blaze under control. Investigators found that a fan that short-circuited set nearby plastic ornaments on fire at the hotel and fire control at the hotel had been chaotic since its opening. The 20 people who have been charged with criminal offenses include Li Yanbin, the de facto controller of the hotel and Zhang Weiping, the hotel's legal representative. Both people have been arrested and each will face a fine of 175,079 yuan (about USD 25,746), state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

IKEA resumes biriyani sale at Hyderabad store

Swedish home furnishing retailer IKEA resumed on Thursday the sale of vegetarian biriyani at its Hyderabad store, after a span of five months.In September 2018, the IKEA store stopped selling the biryani after a customer found a caterpillar in the dish, and lodged a complaint with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which then imposed a Rs 11,500 fine on the store.The furnishing retailer had removed the vegetarian biryani from its menu stating that it takes food safety and quality very seriously.Manager of the Hyderabad IKEA store, John Achillea, told reporters here, "Today is the first day we have started reselling vegetarian biryani and it is available for Rs 99 like in the past."The store which began operations six months ago has a restaurant with a capacity of accommodating nearly 1000 visitors at a time.

Delhi Traffic Police prosecute 660 vehicles for improper parking in special drive

In view of the rising parking menace in various parts of the city, Delhi Traffic Police launched a two-day special drive in several areas during which it prosecuted 660 vehicles for improper parking. According to an official statement, the drive, which concluded Wednesday, was carried out in Netaji Subhash Marg, Connaught Place Inner and Outer Circle, MB Road Khanpur T-Point, Najafgarh Road, Rajouri Garden, Purana Quila Road, C-Hexagon and other areas. The drive continued during the day and a total of 660 vehicles were prosecuted for improper parking, 58 were towed away and notices were issued for improper parking against 91 vehicles, it stated. The statement also stated such intensive drives will continue in the future also on a regular basis.
