Americano food festival begins at Panchkula

A food festival which has curated American barbeque and grill favourites started here Friday. The festival 'BBQ Americano' is a part of the same series of food fests being put up by us, Vivek Khanna, GM of ITC groups of Hotels said here. "We have tried to put up an original American food menu. Live barbeques and grills will be used to prepare traditional American recipes, that have been selected across food genres like appetizers, American street food, seafood, Rotisserie (roasted/barbequed) dishes," said Chef Akshay Malhotra, Executive Chef, ITC Hotels Group. The festival will conclude on September 23.

World chefs' congress on Oct 12-14 in Amritsar

The World Cultural Culinary Heritage Committee, under the aegis of the World Association of Chefs' Societies (WorldChefs), will hold the first edition of the World Heritage Cuisine Summit and food festival from October 12-14 at the Qila Gobindgarh in Amritsar. The summit, hosted by the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations, will celebrate traditional cuisine with live demonstrations, food tasting, presentations, panel discussions, master classes by chefs from around the world in the holy city, Chef Manjit Gill, Chairman, World Cultural Culinary Heritage Committee, said here Friday. It will focus on inculcating appreciation for food culture and traditions, good food habits and sustainable practices, he said.

2nd edition of 'Paryatan Parv' to begin September 16 for promoting domestic tourism

The tourism ministry would organise the second edition of 'Paryatan Parv' from September 16 to September 27 across the country to promote tourist sites, especially among domestic travellers, a ministry official said on Friday. Tourism secretary Rashmi Verma told reporters that the programme will be inaugurated by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on September 16 at the Rajpath lawns here. "The programme is being organised with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism, showcasing the cultural diversity of the country and reinforcing the principle of 'tourism for all," Verma said. She said 32 states and Union territories, along with different departments of the government, are collaborating with the ministry to organise 3,150 activities across India as part of the programme. The event will be based on three main components - 'Dekho aapna desh' - encouraging domestic tourists to travel within India, 'Tourism for all' - promoting tourism across social classes, and 'Tourism and .

India to hold its first global tourism mart from Sep 16

India will hold its first-ever global tourism mart modelled on the ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Brse Berlin), the world's largest tourism trade fair, the Ministry of Tourism said Friday. The mart will be held in Delhi from September 16-18, said Secretary, Tourism Ministry Rashmi Verma. The ten major tourist organisations like FHRAI, HAI, IATO are involved in this mega event, she said. "The objective of the event is to create an annual global tourism mart for India in line with major international travel marts being held in countries across the world. Many tour operators who can't attend the tourism mart abroad because of the expenses involved, will be able to meet the industry big wigs right here in the country. "In fact, we are planning this as an annual event and will release a calendar for the next five years,"said Verma. The mart will see the participation of around 225 international buyers from across the world such as North America, West Europe, East Asia, Latin America

Bus service connecting Kathmandu-Bodhgaya flagged off

Season's first chartered flight from Oz to arrive on Sep15

This season's first chartered flight from Australia will arrive here Saturday with the Tourism department all set to accord a rousing welcome to the visitors, a month after unprecedented rains swamped Kerala. The flight, with 60 tourists on board, will land at Nedumbassery International Airport at 6 pm, according to a department release here. The tourists will be welcomed through a reception that would include 'Panchavadyam' (orchestra of five percussion instruments). Tourism department director P Bala Kiran said the flight's arrival would send out a definitive message that the tourism sector in Kerala is all geared up to welcome visitors. Chinese restaurant closed after woman finds rat in food; stock plunges

A top hotpot restaurant in China's Shandong province was shut down after a pregnant woman found a dead rat in the food she was served, according to media reports. The pregnant woman had been to Xiabu Xiabu hotpot restaurant with her family on September 6. She found the dead rat in her meal after she had already taken a few bites from the dish. A video of her fishing out a dead rat from the broth with a pair of chopsticks quickly spread on Chinese social media site Weibo. The restaurant chain is famous for its hotpot food. The outlet reportedly offered her 5,000 yuan (USD 729) as compensation. DIHM to be converted into full-fledged university

The Delhi Institute of Hotel Management (DIHM) will soon be converted into a full-fledged university which shall provide world-class courses in hospitality and tourism management, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced Wednesday. Sisodia made the announcement during his visit to the institute. "The institute will be converted into a university that shall provide high quality world-class courses in hospitality and tourism to ensure the institution has autonomy," he said. Rally to woo tourists back to Munnar

Various tourism trade associations organised a day-long 'Car and Bullet Rally' from here to Munnar on Wednesday to invite tourists to experience the hill station in all its grandeur, particularly after floods ravaged Kerala. The rally was aimed at telling travellers across the world that the tourism industry of the state was back in business with renewed vigour, the organisers said in a press release here. Munnar and Idukki were among the worst-hit in the recent floods in the state, which claimed over 400 lives.
