India PC market grew 2.6% in Jan-Mar to 3.07 mn units, HP tops chart

The traditional PC market in India, comprising desktops, notebooks, and workstations, grew 2.6 per cent to 30.7 lakh units in the March quarter, market research firm International Data Corporation said on Thursday. HP led the personal computer (PC) market with a 30.1 per cent share despite an 8.8 per cent decline in shipments. The company's PC shipment dropped to 9.23 lakh units during the quarter from 10.12 lakh a year ago. Dell Technologies and Acer Group's PC volume shipments market share grew 28.8 per cent each to 17.5 and 15.4 per cent, respectively. The market shares of Lenovo and Asus declined to 15.1 and 5.9 per cent, respectively, during the reported quarter. The share of Lenovo declined 1.3 per cent to 4.64 lakh units from 4.7 lakh while that of Asus declined 8.3 per cent to 1.82 lakh from 1.98 lakh on a year-on-year basis. HP on Friday launched its range of AI-enhanced laptops designed for gamers and content creators in Bengaluru. HP India Senior Director of Consumer Sales Vineet Gehani, who was in Bengaluru to launch the laptops, told PTI that AI enhanced laptops will not only improve the processing power of the PC or laptop, but will also improve the battery life. For instance, AI will judge how much battery power is required for specific actions and will thus use accordingly, increasing the life of battery, Gehani said. The newly launched laptops include the Omen Transcend 14 and HP Envy x360 14. The AI features include NVIDIA RTX GE4060 Graphics card, Microsoft Co-pilot and Intel NPU (neural processing unit). The government aims to meet up to 70 per cent of the country's IT hardware requirement through local production in the next three years and reduce dependency on imports from non-trusted sources, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Friday. Speaking to reporters, Chandrasekhar said Ministry of Electronics and IT will share a draft of IT hardware import rules with industry players later in the day as it looks to curb dependence on supplies from non-trusted sources. "At present, almost 80 per cent of our supplies to the digital ecosystem come from imports. We want to make sure whatever the sources are, they are trusted. As part of emphasising trust, it is obvious that the Indian component of that supply chain will have to grow.
