Jharkhand to build statues in honour of martyrs of the state:

Jharkhand marked the 122nd birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Wednesday by collecting "soil" from different places of the state that produced martyrs to build statues in their honour. Saluting Bose for his immense contribution in the freedom struggle, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said, "... our brave ancestors fought against the atrocities of the British and the Mughals. We feel blissful to have the sacred soil (from the places of the martyrs in Jharkhand), which will be give the shape of statue." Indian-American IMF chief economist Gita Gopinath, Norwegian MP Himanshu Gulati and South African diplomat Anil Sooklal were among 30 NRIs, Indian-origin people and their organisations named for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award Wednesday. President Ram Nath Kovind, who gave the valedictory address on the third and final day of the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, presented the awards at a grand event here. Though most awardees were present to receive the honour, three among them, including Gopinath, were not present for the event. K'taka minister, cop engage in spat during Siddaganga seer funeral

Karnataka minister Sa Ra Mahesh and Tumakuru Superintendent of police Divya Gopinath engaged in a spat during the funeral of Siddaganga mutt seer Shivakumara Swami, leaving the woman police official in tears. Video footage aired by TV channels showed Gopinath preventing the minister from entering the mutt, where the 111-year-old seer was interred in Tumakuru on Tuesday, as there was restriction on the number of people allowed inside. When Mahesh insisted to go inside the mutt, the police official told him that the building could not accommodate more people. Rescue operation underway in Karwar boat tragedy

Search operations continueKarwar (Karnataka) [India], Jan 23 (ANI): Search operations are still underway to rescue people missing in the January 23 mishap off the Karwar coast in Karnataka, in which 8 people were killed when the boat they were travelling in capsized, Navy officials said. Ten Navy divers and two crafts were immediately deputed for the search and rescue operations and further, two choppers and one aircraft have been continuing for 10 hours in past 24 hours for the operation conducted jointly by the Navy, Coast Guard and coastal security police.According to the Navy, the mishap took place at around 3 p.m. on January 21 when the boat ferrying devotees from Koormagad island, which is approximately three kilometres from Karwar.It is suspected that the death toll could rise once the missing people are traced. Till now 17 people have been rescued.

The 29-year-old singer and two of his associates, including a bodyguard, were held by police on Tuesday following an investigation into an alleged rape at Le Mandarin Oriental hotel, where he has been staying for Paris Fashion Week. The Grammy Award winner was detained on suspicion of aggravated rape and a drug offence. A 24-year-old woman claimed he sexually assaulted her in his hotel room between January 15 and 16 this year.
