Video shows 2 men flashing guns while returning from wedding, case registered

The Delhi Police Sunday registered a case after a video appeared on social media platforms showing two men flashing guns in Shahdara, police said. The incident took place on June 21 when the two men, residents of Delhi, were returning after attending the wedding ceremony of a friend in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, they said. While returning, they recorded a nearly 30-second video on mobile phone somewhere in Shahdara in which they can be seen holding guns, the officer said. However, whether they opened fire or not can be ascertained only after investigation, a senior police officer said. The men seen in the video have been identified and efforts are being taken to nab them, the officer said. Multiple videos of the wedding ceremony have surfaced online. In some of them, a few men were seen holding guns and dancing at the ceremony, the officer added. In another video from the same wedding venue, a few men were seen firing multiple rounds in the air, police said.

Anantapuram: Body of newborn found in dustbin

Locals of Hindupuram area were shocked to find the dead body of a newborn girl on Sunday.The body of the newborn girl who was probably abandoned by her parents was found in a dustbin near an inn.Stray dogs had surrounded the dustbin and were trying to drag the body when locals shooed away the dogs and took the baby in their hands only to find the body still.The whereabouts of the parents of the baby are still not known. The hospital, in which, the baby was delivered also could not be ascertained.

Rahul Gandhi expresses condolences on Pandal collapse mishap in Rajasthan

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday expressed his condolences on deaths due to the 'pandal' collapse mishap at Jasol in Barmer district of Rajasthan.Expressing his sorrow in a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said the news of people dying due to the collapse of a tent while they were listening to Lord Ram Katha was tragic and disappointing.The Congress President's tweet in Hindi translates as, "It is sad and disappointing to know about the death of people due to the collapse of a tent in Jasol, Barmer while they were listening to Ram Katha. I pray to God for the peace to the souls of the deceased and strength to their families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."At least 14 people have died in the mishap that took place at around 4:30 pm on Sunday due to sudden rain and storm. A 'Ram Katha' was organized at Jasol area of the district when the 'pandal' got uprooted by strong winds, leading to the tragedy.

Gehlot announces Rs 5 lakh compensation for kin of 'pandaal' collapse victims, Rs 2 lakh for injured

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the kin of those who were killed in the 'pandaal' collapse mishap at Jasol in Barmer district, while Rs 2 lakh financial assistance for those who were left injured in the mishap.Chief Minister Gehlot also ordered asked Jodhpur Divisional Commissioner BL Kothari to carry out investigations in the 'pandaal' tragedy, in which 14 people lost their lives, while 24 others were left injured.The mishap took place at around 4:30 pm on Sunday due to sudden rain and storm. 5 dead in sand quarry collapse in MP's Barwani

Five labourers were Saturday killed after a sand quarry caved in along the banks of Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district, police said. They were loading sand on to a tractor-trolley when the mishap took place in Barda village, Superintendent of Police D R Teniwar said Sunday. He identified them as Lallu Lal (32), Paras Ram (32), Lakhan (25), Rakesh (32) and Prabhu Das (45). Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath asked the district administration to extend help to the kin of the dead and also probe the incident thoroughly, an official said.

Hazratbal shrine's head priest dies

Head priest of Hazratbal shrine, Ghulam Hassan Banday, died Sunday after a brief illness. He was 80. Banday was one of the custodians of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad at the Hazratbal shrine, an official spokesman said. He said Banday displayed holy relic on many important occasions at the shrine and was also part of the group involved in the recitation of special supplications on important occasions that include Eid-e-Milad-un Nabi. His funeral prayers will be held later this evening, the spokesman said. Banday's death has been condoled by various religious and social organisations.

Function to award Haryana sportspersons cancelled

The Haryana government has scrapped a state-level function to award sportspersons and decided to transfer the cash prize directly into their accounts. The function, scheduled to be held in Panchkula on Monday, was planned to give away cash prizes worth Rs 90 crore to about 3,000 sportspersons who have won medals in national and international competitions. Sports Minister Anil Vij, who had given details about the event 10 days ago, on Sunday explained the reason behind cancelling the function. "Nearly 3,000 players were to be honoured and it was not possible to do so in a day," Vij told reporters. "Therefore, we felt rather than postponing the event, it was more appropriate to deposit money into their bank accounts." Last August, the Haryana government had cancelled a function to felicitate the state's Commonwealth Games medal winners following a possibility of boycott by top athletes over a proposed cut in prize money. Barmer: 14 dead, several injured in 'pandaal' collapse

The toll in the 'pandaal' collapse tragedy here rose to 14 on Sunday.The mishap took place at around 4:30 pm on Sunday due to sudden rain and storm.Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sympathies with the families of the people who were killed in the mishap and wished the injured a speedy recovery."Collapse of a 'Pandaal' in Rajasthan's Barmer is unfortunate. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and I wish the injured a quick recovery," the official handle of Prime Minister's Office (PMO India) tweeted.Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also expressed shock over the mishap.Gehlot also instructed the district administration to conduct a probe and extend all possible financial support to the families of the deceased and those who were injured.At least 24 injured persons were admitted to a local hospital for the treatment following the incident.Rescue and relief works are underway. Former TN DGP who arrested Indira Gandhi dies

Former Tamil Nadu DGP V R Lakshminarayanan, who arrested the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a corruption case, died here Sunday following brief illness, family sources said. He was 91 and is survived by a son and two daughters. Lakshminarayanan, fondly known as VRL, was a 1951 batch IPS officer. He began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Madurai and then rose to become the Joint Director of Central Bureau of Investigation. Lakshminarayanan had worked under various Prime Ministers including late Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Charan Singh, Morarji Desai. He had also arrested the late Indira Gandhi in 1977 in a graft case. Lakshminarayanan retired in 1985 as a Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu. Maha: Man's murder comes to light just before cremation

The funeral of a 35-year-old man was stopped in Akola district of Maharashtra after police arrived at the crematorium and took the body for postmortem which revealed that he was killed, an official said on Sunday. Manish Pachpor, a resident of Ganesh Nagar area in the city, died on Saturday. When his elder brother Yogesh Pachpor (40) and other family members reached the crematorium to perform his last rites, the police, acting on a tip-off, stopped the funeral and sent the body for an autopsy, police inspector Devrao Khanderao said. "We received a tip-off that Manish Pachpor was killed by his elder brother Yogesh Pachpor and that is why the funeral was stopped and the body sent for postmortem," he said. Man posed as CBI Joint Commissioner held while conducting raid in UP

A man was arrested for allegedly impersonating a Joint Commissioner of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and conducting raid at a trader's house in the New Mandi area here, police said Sunday. The accused even managed to get two police constables to accompany him during the raid conducted at the house of the trader, identified as Adesh Goel, they said. Several traders gathered outside the house and protested against the raid. They also informed the police about the incident, apparently after they sensed something suspicious about the man who claimed to be a CBI official. The man tried to escape but was caught by the traders who then handed him over to the police. He had come in a car and was found carrying a forged identity card. Scamp the Tramp's looks have made him a winner but it wasn't a beauty contest. The snaggle-haired, bug-eyed pooch took the top prize Friday at the 31st annual World's Ugliest Dog contest in Petaluma, California. Owner Yvonne Morones of Santa Rosa won an appearance with Scamp on the "Today" show, UDS 1,500 in cash, another USD 1,500 to donate to an animal shelter and bragging rights. Scamp, an adopted street dog, beat out 18 other contestants who showed off their droopy tongues, bowed legs and other strange attributes. Organizers say the contest isn't just skin-deep. It's also about bringing attention to the needs of rescue dogs. Most competitors were previously abandoned or rescued from kill shelters in the US.
