Dravid believes Gambhir's experience will help him excel as coach of India

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid is expecting his successor Gautam Gambhir to do a "great" job with the national team. Dravid was speaking to select media at the launch of 'Digital Classroom' provider' 'Roombr" here on Thursday. Former India opener Gambhir began his coaching tenure with the tour of Sri Lanka in July-August. "He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, as a player also he has played a lot, he obviously coached quite a bit. I am sure he will be great," said Dravid, who coached India to the T20 World Cup title in June. "In any situation everyone brings his own experience and knowledge to the table. I am sure the team will benefit from everything that Gautam brings to them with his team," he added. Under Dravid, the Indian team also reached the final of ODI World Cup and World Test Championship. India begin their Test season under Gambhir on Thursday. The team will be playing 10s Test over the next four months including two against Bangladesh, three against New Zea

IND vs BAN: Gautam Gambhir wants Team India to adopt one style of playing

Head coach Gautam Gambhir wants the Indian team to remain flexible in its strategies instead of pursuing a one-sided approach or getting caught in external factors such as nature of pitch, saying it can hinder its growth as a unit. Gambhir has taken over from Rahul Dravid at a time when the team is gradually embracing a transition phase, and in that context, he wanted the team to follow a result-oriented approach. "I've always been a believer that the best style is a style that wins. We want to be a team that adapts and one that learns quickly rather than adopting one style. If you start adopting one style then there is no growth," Gambhir said at the pre-match press conference here on Wednesday. The former India opener wanted his wards to be proactive to a situation rather than reactive. "We want guys to be playing the situation, the conditions and then keep growing. You know all this giving a name to a certain style is like playing only one way. "So, attempting it's all about ..

We don't need to create a whole different strategy for Bangladesh: Rohit

India skipper Rohit Sharma on Tuesday asserted that there is no need to devise a new strategy in the upcoming series against Bangladesh, despite their impressive recent triumph over Pakistan and the presence of express pacer Nahid Rana in the visitors' ranks. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan 2-0 in their first win over the latter in a Test series but Rohit did not read too much into it. "Every team wants to beat India. They take some pride in it. Let them have fun. Our job is to think about how to win the matches. We don't ponder about what the opponent team is thinking about us," said Rohit in the pre-match press meet here. "India has played cricket against almost every top team in the world. So, there's no need to create a whole different strategy," added Rohit. The Mumbaikar was also not worried about pacer Rana, who can comfortably touch 150 clicks, but, rather than an individual, Bangladesh team as a whole remained his focal point. "See, there will be a couple of new guys in the

Gambhir's aggression comes out in protection of his players: Dinesh Karthik

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik on Tuesday said head coach Gautam Gambhir's display of aggression in the past has generally come out in protection of his players. Karthik said Gambhir's aggression is never unwarranted, something that the players under his tutelage will enjoy. "His aggression has generally come out in protection of his players and that is something the current lot of players will enjoy. Knowing him, he is not someone who gets angry for the heck of it," Karthik told reporters on the sidelines of a Legends League Cricket event here. "I'm sure he will have his turn with strong words for whoever it is required, and it is in his best interest to get the best out of the players, he added. Karthik, however, said lacking coaching experience in Test cricket could be on Gambhir's mind as he enters his first assignment with the opening match against Bangladesh starting here on Thursday. "He has been a part of numerous T20 tournaments. But this Test series will

New support staff will have different perspective, no problem so far: Rohit

India captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday said head coach Gautam Gambhir's style is different from his predecessor Rahul Dravid but insisted he shares a good rapport with the new appointee, and the rest of his fresh set of support staff. Gambhir, a World Cup-winning former opener, took charge of India in July during a white ball tour to Sri Lanka, and will now helm the team in its first Test series under his tutelage against Bangladesh, beginning here from Thursday. In Gambhir's first outing as coach, India swept the T20I series against the Islanders 3-0, but lost the ensuing ODI series 0-2. "Obviously, Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour (former batting coach) and Paras Mhambrey (former bowling coach) were a different team and it is only acceptable that the new support staff will bring different perspective," Rohit said in the pre-series press conference here on Tuesday. "But the matches that we engaged in (with the new staff) in Sri Lanka, they seemed to be sensible and understanding. They be

We're encouraged by playing the best team in the world: Bangladesh coach

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha feels playing against cricketing powerhouse India will give his team a fair assessment of where it stands internationally, as he looks forward to relishing the challenge against Rohit Sharma's side in the two-Test series commencing on Thursday. Bangladesh are coming off a triumphant 2-0 away Test-series win against Pakistan, having annihilated the Shan Masood-led side by 10 wickets in the opening game, following which they won the second match by six wickets. However, India, currently leading the World Test Championship (WTC) table, are expected to pose a much stronger challenge to Bangladesh despite the eastern neighbours riding high on confidence. "We are encouraged by playing the best team in the world, and coming to India and playing against them is the best challenge you get nowadays. Playing against the best always gives you the perception of where you stand, and as sportspersons, we always look forward to it," said Hathurusingha, t

IND vs BAN 1st Test: Kohli, Gambhir guide Jaiswal after struggle vs Bumrah

Ask any international cricketer worth his salt and he would tell you about how important the second season is after a stellar first season. If sky-rocketing expectations are one aspect of it, the other part comprises of opposition's familiarity with his game and enough on-ground material available for dissection. As Yashasvi Jaiswal eyes to beat second season blues, he can consider himself lucky that that he gets to face Jasprit Bumrah in the nets, the best in the business that you want to face before real action begins. During Monday's net session, Bumrah repeatedly made short work of the Mumbai youngster often sending his off-stump cart-wheeling for fun. Jaiswal would hope that sketchy form in the nets wouldn't be carried in the opening Test against Bangladesh starting here on September 19. With 10 Tests this season, Jaiswal coming in with heady reputation as one of the future megastar in making having scored 1000 plus runs in his first 9 Tests with 700 plus coming against Englan

Indian batter Shubman Gill set to be rested for Bangladesh T20Is

India vice-captain Shubman Gill are among prominent players who will be rested for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting October 7 as part of BCCI's workload management policy. Apart from Gill, a few more important players will also be rested keeping the the three- Test series against New Zealand in mind. Indian setup operates by itself, goal will be to protect that: Morne Morkel

"What isn't broken shouldn't be mended" is the mantra of new India bowling coach Morne Morkel, who loves how the Indian cricket set-up runs on auto-pilot, and says his new assignment will involve helping that system "get better in small ways". Morkel, who has worked with current head coach Gautam Gambhir in Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been in India enough times and seen it from close quarter to understand how it works and where he would fit into the ecosystem. "Coming here, this is a set-up that operates by itself and so to protect that and make it better in small ways is going to be the goal," Morkel told BCCI.TV, making it clear that his focus is on minor tweaks rather than overhauling what works. He also feels that super seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah will always lead the charge and his job will be to be the sounding board as part of the support staff. "We are quite lucky to have quality senior players and they
