All eight teams will wear new jerseys for the coveted ICC tournament. One notable difference in the jerseys for ICC tournaments is the absence of the team's title sponsor due to the guidelines.

I would go with Arshdeep Singh over Harshit Rana, says Ricky Ponting

Australian great Ricky Ponting will pick Arshdeep Singh over Harshit Rana for India's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh here on Thursday with the Rohit Sharma-led side hoping to fill the huge void left by injured pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Rana has done alright in the chances he has got ahead of the ICC event but Ponting feels the left-arm pacer Arshdeep is better suited to bowl in all phases of the 50-over game. "I would go with the left-armer and I'd go with Arshdeep (to replace Bumrah)," Ponting said on The ICC Review. "We know how good he's been in T20 cricket and if you think about the skill set, he probably provides a similar skill set to what Bumrah does with new ball and death overs and that's what India will miss. "That's taking nothing away from Harshit Rana because I think he has got a lot of talent and we know what he can do with the new ball, but I don't think his death skills are as good as what Arshdeep Singh's are." The former Australian captain feels

India will feel Bumrah's absence very strongly in Champions Trophy: Dhawan

India will feel Jasprit Bumrah's absence "very strongly" in the Champions Trophy but they still have a great chance to win the tournament considering their recent form and a host of match-winners at their disposal, reckons former opener Shikhar Dhawan. While the event starts in Pakistan on Wednesday, India start their campaign a day later with a match against neighbours Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pace spearhead Bumrah was ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury, having taken the maximum load during India's five-match Test series against Australia. "My concern is they are going to miss Jasprit Bumrah, there is no doubt he will be a big absence and I think they will feel it very strongly," Dhawan wrote in an ICC column published on Tuesday. "For me, he is the best bowler in the world, and his accuracy is hard to replicate. He is also a very calm character and that is crucial in a huge ICC event like this." Dhawan is, however, backing Shubma

Missing big players like Bumrah is a problem for any team: Kapil Dev

Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev said the injury-enforced absence of impact players like Jasprit Bumrah can hamper any team, and the former skipper hoped that India's pace talisman will return to action sooner rather than later. Bumrah, who was named the ICC Test and Cricketer of the Year for 2024, was on Tuesday ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The 31-year-old, who has already undergone a lower back surgery in 2022, sustained another stress-related injury while bowling in the final Test against Australia at Sydney, where he pulled out after sending down 10 overs in the first innings. "The quality of cricket Jasprit Bumrah has played in the last two years has been really impactful and I don't think any other fast bowler in the world has been able to produce that kind of a performance," said Kapil in an interview on Cricket Adda Youtube channel shared with PTI Videos. There is freedom in the squad to play the way you want: Rohit Sharma

Using India's aggressive approach in the ODI series against England as a case in point, skipper Rohit Sharma said players have the "freedom" to adopt their own methods and the management is not overly worried about occasional failures. India rounded off their preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy with 3-0 rout of England, and in the final match they demolished the visitors by a massive 142-run margin. "There is a bit of freedom in the squad to go out there and play the way you want. The World Cup (2023) was a perfect example of that. We want to continue to do that. There will be times it will not fall in place but that's okay," said Rohit in the post-match presentation. He was very happy with team putting up a collective show and everyone putting up satisfactory performances. "Very very pleasing (with the way the series went). We knew there would be challenges that we could face," he added. Without going into specifics, Rohit said India will be looking to further improve

KL Rahul is our 1st choice, can't play 2 keeper-batters: Gautam Gambhir

India's head coach Gautam Gambhir made it clear that KL Rahul is team's first-choice wicketkeeper going into the Champions Trophy and the flamboyant Rishabh Pant is not being considered as an option in the playing eleven in the immediate future. Among all the players that were chosen for the England ODIs, only Pant wasn't given a start by the head coach as all the others got at least one game if not three. Rahul, who initially batted at No. 6 in the first two games, didn't look comfortable and fared far better at the familiar No. 5 position with a useful 40 off 29 balls in India's one-sided 142-run victory in the third ODI here. "Ultimately, it is very difficult to talk about individuals. But all I can say is that if he is part of the squad, when time comes, he might get an opportunity. But at the moment, obviously, KL is the No 1 wicketkeeper and he has delivered for us," Gambhir told media persons at the series-ending press conference. "When you've got two wicket keepers in the .
