Delhi govt withdraws order cancelling officials' leave amid Pak tensions

Delhi government on Wednesday revoked its order cancelling leaves of its officials in the wake of the military conflict with Pakistan earlier this month. The services department of Delhi government said it's previous order dated May 8 cancelling all leaves of officers/officials stands withdrawn with immediate effect. In its May 8 order, the department cancelled leaves of all Delhi government employees until further orders to prepare for any emergency situation arising out of the hostilities between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor. The situation, however, improved after a few days as the two countries on May 10 decided to halt the military action with immediate effect. Indian armed forces hit nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7 under the codename Operation Sindoor, India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

Retreat ceremony for public along Pak border to resume from May 21

The Border Security Force (BSF) has said the public flag-lowering retreat ceremony at three locations in Punjab along the Pakistan frontier will begin on Wednesday, about two weeks after it was stopped following Operation Sindoor by India in response to the Pahalgam attack. The Jalandhar headquartered Punjab frontier of the force said the ceremony will resume from Tuesday, but it will be open only for media persons. The public can participate from Wednesday, it said, adding the event time will be 6 pm. Officials said on Monday that the event held daily in the evening at Attari, Hussainiwala and Sadki will be opened for public viewing from May 20. The ceremony, however, will be curtailed as BSF troops will not shake hands with Pakistan Rangers, and the gates will not be opened during the flag-lowering process as declared earlier, officials had said. The flag was being lowered each day by BSF troops irrespective of the public presence, the officials clarified. The BSF on May 8 stopp

If US can extradite terrorists, Pak can give us Saeed, Lakhvi: Indian envoy

Calling upon to form an international coalition against terrorism, India's Ambassador to Israel JP Singh, has stressed that India's Operation Sindoor against Pakistan is "paused" and "not over", demanding that Islamabad should handover key terrorists Hafiz Saeed, Sajid Mir and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi just like US did with one of the masterminds of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, Tahawwur Hussain Rana. Narrating the incidents leading up to India's offensive, Singh in an interview with Israeli TV channel i24 on Monday said that the operation was initially against terror groups in Pakistan. "The terrorists killed people based on their religion. They asked people their religion before killing them and 26 innocent lives were lost", the Indian ambassador said citing the Pahalgam attack of April 22. "India's operation was against terror groups and their infrastructure to which Pakistan responded by attacking India's military installations", he emphasised. Asked if the ceasefire is holding and if

India will "not be intimidated" by "desperate provocations", the Indian embassy in Portugal has said after a Pakistani group staged a protest outside its chancery building here. The embassy said in a post on X on Sunday that it responded firmly with 'Operation Sindoor' to the "cowardly" protest. Under Operation Sindoor, India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. "Embassy of India @IndiainPortugal responded firmly with Operation Sindoor' to the cowardly protest organised by Pakistan near our Chancery building," said the post. Rahul Gandhi targets EAM Jaishankar, says his silence is 'damning'

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a fresh attack on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, saying his silence on the number of aircraft India "lost" after Pakistan was "informed" about the military action under Operation Sindoor is "damning". The Congress leader had earlier also targeted the government on the issue, suggesting that the Indian side informed Pakistan ahead of the military strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). "EAM Jaishankar's silence isn't just telling, it's damning. So I'll ask again: How many Indian aircraft did we lose because Pakistan knew?" he asked in a post on X. "This wasn't a lapse. It was a crime. And the nation deserves the truth," Gandhi also said. Gandhi had earlier shared an undated video clip of Jaishankar and wrote, "Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI (government of India) did it." "Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our air

Can't help economies of nations working against India: VP Dhankhar

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday said that people cannot help economies of nations, through import or travel, that are inimical to the interests of India. His remarks came amid trade and tourism boycott of Turkiye and Azerbaijan following their support to Pakistan in the conflict with India after Operation Sindoor. Addressing an event here, the vice president said every individual is empowered to help the nation in security. Trade, business, commerce, and industry in particular can play a pivotal role in security issues, he observed. "Can we afford to empower countries that are inimical to our interests? Time has come when each one of us must deeply think about economic nationalism," he said. Dhankhar said, "We can no longer afford, by travel or import, to improve economies of those countries because of our participation. And those countries, in times of crisis, are positioned against us." He said everything has to be reckoned on the fulcrum of unflinching commitment to

With the government nominating him to lead a diplomatic outreach delegation after Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said that when national interest is involved and his services are required, he will not be found wanting. Tharoor also said he is honoured by the invitation of the government to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals to present the nation's point of view on recent events. Centre plans to extend Ranbir canal on Chenab after Indus Treaty suspension

The government is considering plans to increase the length of the Ranbir canal on the Chenab river as part of its efforts to maximise the use of water that India will get after putting the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance following the Pahalgam attack, officials said. Till now, India has been using limited water from Chenab, mostly for irrigation, but by putting the treaty in abeyance now there is scope of expanding its use, especially in power generation sector to meet the energy demands, a senior official said. Another official said that India is planning to enhance its current hydropower capacity of around 3000 megawatts on the rivers that were earlier being used by Pakistan and a feasibility study in this regard is planned, the official said. "One of the major plans are enhancing the length of the Ranbir canal to 120 km," the official said, adding that as building of the infrastructure requires time, "all stakeholders have been urged to expedite the process". Moreover, the proces
