Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Friday asserted India is "no more a weak" country, and its reputation and credibility has increased rapidly at the global level. Singh, who is on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh's capital city, said India is a country which has not captured even an inch of land of any other nation. "We are proud of our heritage. We are believers of 'Vasudev Kutumbkam' (the world is one family)." He addressed a programme at the Lucknow University, where he said, "India is no more a weak India. Now India has become a powerful India. We have full faith in our soldiers, and we should be proud of our jawans." He added the country's economy is growing at a fast rate. "India's reputation and credibility has increased rapidly at the global level," the Union minister said. During his visit, Singh will attend several programmes and interact with different sections of society.

Implementation of the proposed India-UK free trade agreement will help to boost the country's services exports, particularly from legal, accounting and auditing sectors, Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) said on Friday. SEPC Chairman Sunil H Talati said that the British market holds huge potential for domestic services sectors like medical transcription, legal, accounting and auditing. Negotiations for the trade pact between the countries are at advanced stages and expected to conclude by the end of this month. After the conclusion of the talks, it would take some time to implement the agreement. Under this agreement, both countries may significantly cut or eliminate customs duties on the maximum number of goods traded between them. Besides, norms would be relaxed to promote trade in services. "Britain holds a lot of potential for our services exports. The agreement will help in boosting services exports," Talati told PTI. The country is on course to build more national highways and rail lines during the decade ending 2025 than it has cumulatively done between 1950 and 2015, a report said on Wednesday. The total length of national highways is expected to reach 1.8 lakh kilometres, while that of the railway lines 1.2 lakh kilometres by 2025, Bank of America Securities India said in a report. Between 1950 and 2015, the nation built only 4,000 kilometres of national highways, taking the total length to 77,000 kilometres in 2015. However the highway length is on course to cross 1.8 lakh kilometres by 2025 -- more than double the existing length -- in ten years time. When it comes to the rail network, the nation had only 10,000 kilometres of rail lines in 1950, which rose to 63,000 kilometres in 2015. But it is slated to touch 1.2 lakh kilometres in 2025, the report said.
