Killing spree, fear in Kashmir belie govt's normalcy claims: Farooq

Targeted killings of civilians and the pervasive fear among the people in Kashmir belie the government's claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, NC president Farooq Abdullah said Thursday, alleging the administration has its head in sand. "This ostrich approach will push the situation to a point of no return," said the former J&K chief minister, presiding over a meeting of the National Conference's provincial committee (Kashmir) at Nawa-e-Subah here. Home Minister Amit Shah to review situation in Jammu & Kashmir on June 3

Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting on June 3 to discuss the situation in Jammu and Kashmir with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and others, officials said here on Wednesday. They said besides the Lt Gov, senior functionaries of the home ministry and officials from the union territory would participate in the meeting. The meeting comes in the wake of targeted killings of Hindu government employees by terrorists in the Valley, and also as the administration prepares for the Amarnath Yatra from this month-end.

Four Lashkar-e-Toiba militants killed in two encounters in Kashmir

Four Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, including two who were involved in killing a female TV artist, were killed in two separate encounters in Pulwama and Srinagar districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday. An encounter broke out at Aganhanzipora locality in Awantipora area of Pulwama district late on Thursday night, a police spokesman said. He said two ultras, who were responsible for killing TV artist Amreen Bhat in Budgam district a day earlier, were trapped in the cordon. "Both killed newly joined local #terrorists identified as Shahid Mushtaq Bhat R/O Hafroo Chadoora #Budgam & Farhan Habib R/O Hakripora #Pulwama. Former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are "fed up" of the current administration and want early elections to form the government of their choice. Shah directs security forces to launch anti-terror ops pro-actively in JK

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday directed security forces to conduct coordinated counter-terrorism operations pro-actively in Jammu and Kashmir. He also said that to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a prosperous and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir, the security forces should ensure zero cross-border infiltration to wipe out terrorism in the union territory, a home ministry statement said. The home minister conveyed this at a high-level meeting held here to review the security situation in the union territory, ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to begin on June 30. He directed the security forces and the police to conduct coordinated counter-terrorism operations pro-actively, the statement said. A forest fire broke out in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning.Range Officer said that the fire was doused off earlier but some miscreants lit the fire again in the forest."We got the information about the forest fire in the forest area in the morning.
