Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Thursday claimed that 20,000 people have been recruited in various government departments in the last three years. During a discussion on the unemployment issue initiated by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, the minister said 20,000 people have been recruited in different categories -- regular scale, contractual and fixed pay -- in the government sector in the last three years. The minister said the process has already begun to fill up 20,000 more posts in various government departments. He claimed that the number of registered unemployed youths has reduced from 7,41,305 on March 31, 2018 to 3,09,882 on March 31, 2024. "It is not true that job aspirants are frustrated... The national database of informal sector workers eSharm portal has crossed the 30-crore registrations milestone in a period of three years, the labour ministry said on Monday. This achievement highlights the social impact and the government's commitment to support unorganised workers across the country, a labour ministry statement said. According to the statement, the Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) launched the eShram portal on August 26, 2021. In three years since its launch, eShram has registered more than 30 crore unorganised workers, showcasing its rapid and widespread adoption among the unorganised workers, it stated. The government envisages to establish the eShram portal as a "One-Stop-Solution" for the country's unorganised workers. During the Budget speech 2024-25 it announced that, "a comprehensive integration of eShram portal with other portals will facilitate such One-Stop-Solution." Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has added 21.67 lakh new workers under its ESI scheme in June 2024, which is about 7 per cent higher as compared to the year-ago period, showed the latest payroll data. The ESIC had added 20.27 lakh new members in June 2023, a labour ministry statement said. Of the total 21.67 lakh employees added during the month, 10.58 lakh workers accounting for around 49 per cent of the total registrations belong to the age group of up to 25 years, it said. Also, the net enrolment of female members was 4.32 lakh in June 2024. Besides, a total of 55 transgender employees got registered under the ESI scheme in June 2024. As many as 13,483 new establishments were brought under the social security ambit of the ESI scheme in June 2024, thus ensuring social security to more workers. The payroll data is provisional since the data generation is a continuous exercise.

Employees' Provident Fund Officers' Association has sought the Union Labour Minister's intervention to improve the information technology infrastructure of the retirement fund body. In a letter to the minister earlier this week, the EPF Officers' Association (EPFOA) said it has been regularly submitting requests for urgent interventions to upgrade the EPF IT systems software, hardware, IT manpower - which are causing acute strain on EPF manpower and adversely affecting EPFO services. The situation has now turned serious with officers and offices reporting significant system deficiencies on a daily basis, the association said. Retail inflation for industrial workers eased to 3.86 per cent in May compared to 4.42 per cent in the same month a year ago. The Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) was 3.87 per cent in April 2024, a labour ministry statement said. According to the statement, year-on-year inflation for May 2024 moderated to 3.86 per cent against 4.42 per cent in May 2023. The All-India CPI-IW for May 2024 increased by 0.5 points and stood at 139.9 points. It was 139.4 points in April 2024. The food and beverages group increased to 145.2 points in May from 143.4 points in April this year. The fuel & light segment dipped to 149.5 points in May from 152.8 points in April 2024. The labour ministry on Monday rebutted a recent report by Citigroup which forecast that India will struggle to create sufficient employment opportunities even with a 7 per cent growth rate. The ministry in a statement said the report "fails to account for the comprehensive and positive employment data available from official sources such as Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and the Reserve Bank of India's KLEMS data." Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) alleged that the delays have persisted for more than two years, and caused significant hardship for the affected professionals, leaving them 'in a limbo'. Infosys did not comment on the matter.
