NIA raids house of accused in murder of Hindu Munnani leader

NIA sleuths today carried out search at two places belonging to an accused in the 2016 murder of a Hindu Munnani functionary here, police said. As part of the investigation, a six-member team from Kochi in Kerala, headed by Superintendent, Rahul conducted raids in the house of Shahjahan in Saibaba colony and his saw mill in Thuriyalur, they said. Shahjahan's son Munna, living abroad, is said to be wanted in the case and NIA had asked him to appear for interrogation. However, he had not responded so far following which the raids were conducted, to ascertain whether he had any role in the murder, they added. The National Investigating Agency (NIA), which took over the probe from CB-CID police in February last, have already arrested four people in connection with the murder of C Sasikumar. Sasikumar was hacked to death by a gang on two wheelers when he was returning home in Subramaniampalayam, on the outskirts of the city, on September 22, 2016.

Four of family die in mysterious circumstances in Gurgaon village

An elderly woman and her son and daughter-in-law were found dead in mysterious circumstances at their home in a village near Pataudi town while her one-year-old granddaughter, who was seriously injured, passed away in hospital, police said today. The bodies of 62-year-old Phoolwati, Manish God (25) and Pinki (22) were found last evening by a milkman who had gone to their residence in Brijpura village near Gurgaon district's Pataudi town to supply milk, police officials said. While Phoolwati and Manish were found in a pool of blood, Pinki was hanging from a ceiling fan in another room with deep cuts on her legs and hands, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Pataudi) Ber Singh said. Kamala Mills fire: HC asks probe panel to submit report on Sept 10

The Bombay High Court today asked the committee probing the Kamala Mills Compound fire incident that claimed 14 lives to submit its report before the court on September 10. In April this year, the high court had ordered that a three-member committee be set up to conduct an inquiry into the incident that took place last year. The panel was later set up and it is headed by retired chief justice A V Savant and has two other members -- Vasant Thakur, an architect on one of the high court panels, and former chief secretary K Nalinakshan. The committee was directed earlier to submit its report to the high court on August 31. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) moved an application today before a division bench of Justices B R Gavai and M S Karnik seeking extension of the time granted to the committee to submit its report. 18-kg poppy, Rs 10-lakh gold seized; 3 arrested

Police have arrested three men after 18 kg of poppy and gold worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered in Jammu and Kashmir, In Jammu district, a Ludhiana man was arrested from Manda area and recovered 12 kg of poppy. A case has been registered against Surjit Singh, a police official said. In Udhampur district, a police team recovered six kg of poppy after intercepting a car on a tip-off. During sustained interrogation, the arrested driver, Jamat Ali, broke down and revealed committing a theft at a house in Dandiya area of Udhampur and stealing gold and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh. Based on his information, another accused, Alam Din, was also arrested and three motorcycles worth Rs 2.5 lakh were recovered, they said.

Television reporter killed in Mexico

A Mexican television reporter was shot dead in the resort city of Cancun, becoming the eighth journalist to be killed this year in a country notoriously dangerous for the media. Javier Enrique Rodriguez Valladares, who was killed yesterday, worked as a cameraman and reporter for Canal 10. The station said his family had confirmed his death. The government of Quintana Roo state, which includes Cancun, said another man was also shot dead with him, reportedly while the pair were walking down a street in the city centre. Canal 10 said Rodriguez Valladares was mainly a cameraman but also did interviews and features on political issues. The state government said there was no immediate indication the murder was related to his work but that all avenues of investigation remained open. A 10-year-old boy was injured in celebratory firing at a wedding in Jivana Guliyan village here, police said today. The incident occurred last night under Chinauli Police Station limits here. HM chief Syed Salahuddin's son arrested in Srinagar

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police on Thursday arrested Syed Shakeel Yousuf, son of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) chief Syed Salahuddin from Rambagh area in Srinagar in an alleged terror funding case in 2011."In a joint operation, NIA team along with CRPF and local police arrested Shakeel, son of Syed Salahuddin from Rambagh in Srinagar this morning," an NIA spokesperson told ANI. Woman gunned down by unidentified miscreants

A 22-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gunned down today by unidentified miscreants when she was working in a field here, police said. The incident occurred in Budina Khurd village under Charthawal Police Station limits, they said. The Dalit woman was working in a field when some miscreants allegedly killed her, Circle Officer Rizwan Ahmad said. 20-year-old lynched in UP village on suspicion of being buffalo thief

A youth who was home from Dubai where he worked as a tailor was lynched in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district on suspicion that he had stolen a buffalo, police said today. Shahrukh, 20, was beaten to death last night in Bholapur Hadoliya village under the Cantt police station area here. Four people have been arrested, said Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinandan Singh. Shahrukh and three others had gone out last night when a group of locals caught hold of them, suspecting that they had stolen a buffalo. He was thrashed by the group while his associates managed to escape, police said. Haryana: 4 of a family found dead in mysterious circumstances

Four members of a family residing in Pataudi's Brijpura village died in mysterious circumstances, last night.While three of them were found dead by the Gurugram Police inside their house, the fourth member, who was a year old, succumbed to injuries at a medical centre.Pataudi is a town in Gurgaon district which is 50 kilometres away from Gurugram.Speaking to ANI, the police said that they have found one woman's body hanging from the sealing and found two bodies lying on the floor. "A woman's body was found hanging, and there were two bodies lying on the floor. We had sent the child to the hospital where she died," he said.This incident came to light after a milkman found the bodies lying in a pool of blood in the morning and immediately informed the village sarpanch, who then informed the local authorities.The police has initiated a probe into the matter and are yet to identify the accused. Woman offered lift, raped; accused held

A youth has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Yunuspur village in neighbouring Shamli district, police said today. The accused Vishva Kumar was arrested and a case has been registered against him, SHO Munesh Kumar of Pukhtaghari police station said. According to a complaint lodged by the woman's husband, when she was waiting for a vehicle at a bus stand last evening, the accused came on a bike and offered to drop her to her village in the district. But instead, the accused took her in a sugarcane field and raped her, police said. The woman has been sent for medical examination, they added.

12 arrested for obscenity in dance bar, 6 women rescued

The Thane police raided a dance bar here in Maharashtra and arrested 12 people for allegedly indulging in obscenity, an official said today. Around six women, in the age group of 20 to 35 years, were rescued last night after the raid at the bar, located in Vitthalwadi area, Thane police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar said. The rescued women were huddled in a small room concealed behind a toilet and the bar's management had not taken care of their safety, she said. The women told the police that whenever a raid was conducted at the bar, they were asked to rush into the room to hide themselves, Narkar said. The bar's manager, waiters and some customers were among those arrested, she said, adding that the police also recovered Rs 23,820 from the bar. The arrested persons were booked under IPC sections 294 (obscene acts or words in public) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), Narkar added.

Three activists sent back home from Pune, kept under house arrest

Pune police sent the three Left-wing activists, arrested for their alleged links with Maoists, to their homes, as per a directive of the Supreme Court. Arrangements were made to send the three suspects to their respective cities late last night and all of them have reached their homes, said Pune's Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivaji Pawar, who is the investigation officer in the case. Woman found dead in friend's house in Thane

A 29-year-old woman was found dead at an apartment in a housing complex here in Maharashtra, police said today. Harshada Somawanshi, an unmarried woman who was into catering business, had been missing since Tuesday and her family filed a complaint in this connection, an official at the Manpada police station in Dombivali said. During a search, the body was found late last night at the home of Somawanshi's male friend in the same complex where she resided, the official said. The deceased's friend has been missing since last night and a search is on for him, he said. Man held for duping banks in Delhi-NCR since 2013

The Delhi police has arrested a man who has been allegedly cheating nationalised banks in Delhi-NCR since 2013.Accused identified as Amit Verma, 38, was wanted in eight cases of cheating registered with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and two with the Delhi Police's Economic Offense Wing.
