Triggering a controversy, a Pakistani girl featured as the "brand ambassador" on the cover page of a booklet meant to promote 'Swachh Jamui Swasth Jamui' initiative in Bihar's Jamui district.The incident that came to light on Friday and apparently didn't go down well across various spheres.An investigation revealed that the girl was also seen drawing Pakistan's flag in a picture, that added fuel to the fire.It was also revealed that the girl was being promoted as the face of UNICEF in Pakistan for education.The booklet was printed by Suprabh Enterprises printing press in Patna.
Guntur rape: Andhra CM announces Rs 5 Lakh ex gratia

A US Navy veteran who killed Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla in a racially motivated hate crime at a bar in Kansas City last year has been sentenced to life in prison. In March this year, Adam Purinton, 52, had pleaded guilty to the charges of murdering Kuchibhotla. He was charged with first-degree murder of Kuchibhotla, 32, and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in the shootings of his friend, Alok Madasani, and a bystander, who chased Purinton after he fled the Austin's Bar and Grill in Olathe city on February 22 last year. Purinton, yelled, "Get out of my country," before shooting Kuchibhotla, who later died from injuries sustained in the attack. A federal judge in Kansas yesterday sentenced Purinton to life in prison for the first-degree murder of Kuchibhotla and 165 months imprisonment for each of the other two murder charges. US man who killed Indian immigrant sentenced to life: reports
A man in the US state of Kansas who shot dead an Indian immigrant while shouting "get out of my country," was sentenced to life in prison, according to media reports. Adam Purinton had previously pleaded guilty to the racial slur-filled, drunken attack last year at a suburban bar and restaurant in the Midwestern state. He shot two Indian immigrant men and a bystander who had tried to intervene. Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, was killed. His friend Alok Madasani and bystander Ian Grillot were wounded. Purinton received the maximum punishment for the murder, and two sentences of 165 months each for the attempted murders, local television stations reported yesterday. While Purinton would be eligible for parole in 50 years, the 52-year-old was likely to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Gujarat: CID arrests bitcoin thief
The Gujarat branch of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday arrested Kirit Paladiya for stealing bitcoins from his partner."We have arrested Kirit Paladiya who is the mastermind of the conspiracy," said Deputy Inspector General of CID crime Dipankar Trivedi while speaking to the media.According to the police authorities, Paladiya stole 176 bitcoins worth over Rs 9 crore from his partner, Shailesh Bhatt.Also, Amreli's Superintendent of Police Jagdish Patel, Amreli local Crime Branch inspector Anant Patel and two other constables have been arrested for being involved in the case.Meanwhile, seven policemen involved in the case are still on the run.According to Shailesh Bhatt's complaint, a CBI officer, Sunil Nair, in February had called and warned him to stop dealing in crypto-currencies as it had been banned by the government.Bhatt's complaint mentioned that Nair had taken Rs 5 crore from him for not filing the case.During questioning, Bhatt had told that he, along with ...

Maharashtra ex-Deputy CM gets bail in money laundering case
The Bombay High Court on Friday granted bail to former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal in a money laundering case.Earlier on March 26, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Centre on Bhujbal's plea, which was filed in connection with the Maharashtra Sadan scam.The plea was filed by Bhujbal, wherein he challenged his arrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).On March 14, 2016, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in connection with this case, wherein he and his relatives have been accused of receiving kickbacks.The Bombay High Court had earlier dismissed Bhujbal's petition after the ED challenged on the same.Bhujbal is not only being investigated for alleged corruption in contracts given for the construction of Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi, but also various other projects during his tenure as public works department (PWD) minister of Maharashtra are under scanner.
Woman nabbed with live ammo at Delhi metro station
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Friday arrested a woman with two live rounds of .315 bore at Delhi's Kohat Enclave Metro Station.The accused has been identified as Simran, 19, who was later detained by CISF staff.According to the officials, "During the screening of a bag through X-BIS machine, constable Satish Singh of CISF noticed the image of live rounds. Immediately, he stopped the conveyer belt and informed the matter to his senior.""During the probe, the woman confessed that her friend Manish Rana, 18, had kept those rounds in her bag. The matter was informed to the senior officers of CISF and station controller," the official added.The Delhi Metro Rail Police informed that later in the day, Rana came at the metro station and was arrested. HC allows termination of pregnancy of 14-year-old rape victim
The Madras High Court has allowed the termination of pregnancy of a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped five months ago by a person known to her. Justice T Raja gave the direction recently on a petition from the Child Welfare Committee, Chengalpattu. He directed the dean of Chengalpet Medical College and Hospital to terminate the pregnancy and preserve the foetus. The girl's parents had approached the Kancheepuram District Collector with a complaint that their daughter had been raped about five months ago, following which she was before the child welfare committee. Later she was admitted to the Christ Faith Home for Children at Manapakkam in Chennai. At that time, a doctor's report was submitted, stating that she had been raped by a person known to her. She was then taken to the Chengalpet Medical College and Hospital and a case was registered. Woman set ablaze after rape in Jharkhand
An 18-year-old woman was set ablaze today by a man after she was allegedly raped last night in Chatra district, police said. The woman is battling for life at a hospital with 98 per cent burns. The accused is on the run. The rape accused, along with his friends, stormed into the house of the woman in Raja Tendua Tola area and assaulted her parents before allegedly setting her on fire, police said. The woman's family lodged a complaint with the local panchayat about the incident. A panchayat was convened today in the village and a fine of Rs 30,000 was imposed on the accused. The panchayat had also ordered the accused to do 100 sit-ups before it, police sources said. However, the accused refused to obey the panchayat directive and instead barged into the house of the woman, along with his friends, the sources said. JU student alleges sexual assault for smoking
An FIR was lodged against an unidentified person for allegedly sexually assaulting a 23-year-old student of Jadavpur University. The girl alleged that the person had sexually and physically assaulted her while she was inside an auto-rickshaw yesterday in Baghajatin area under Netaji Nagar Police station limits. As per the girl's complaint, the person had verbally accused her and grabbed the cigarette she was smoking and told her she was not supposed to smoke being a woman. The girl also alleged that the man forcibly entered the auto which she and her two friends were in. She also said that the man had molested her and was beaten up when she protested. 3 railway officials face enquiry over bribes for giving licences to ticket centres
The railways will conduct enquiry against three senior Northern Railway officials for allegedly taking bribes of up to Rs 3 lakhs from operators of Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra (YTSK), which were started by the railways in 2014 to expand its ticketing system, sources said. The officers, one of whom is a senior divisional commercial manager at New Delhi, face termination if found guilty for corruption, they said. Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani received a complaint yesterday alleging that the three officers demanded bribes for giving licences, when all of them were posted in Delhi, for modernization of and running such centres across the zone. Lohani was provided with both audio and video clips against the alleged offenders after which the Railway Board decided to conduct an enquiry, sources said. HC seeks status on rape-murder convict's plea to write exams
The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Delhi Government to file a status report on a plea filed by Santosh Kumar Singh, who is serving a life term for the rape and murder of a 25-year-old law student in January 1996, seeking parole to write LLM exams.The hearing in the case will now take place on May 16.Singh, also a law student, was acquitted by the trial court in the case on December 3, 1999, but the Delhi High Court on October 27, 2006, reversed the decision and held him guilty.The court had also awarded death penalty to him. But Singh, the son of a former IPS officer, had challenged his conviction and death sentence.In October 2010, the Supreme Court had upheld the accused's conviction but reduced the death sentence to life imprisonment.
