Woman filed molestation complaint against DSGMC members

A complaint has been filed against two members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) for allegedly molesting a woman here.The 26-year-old victim on Wednesday alleged that she was harassed by two office-bearers - Harjit Singh and Sukhvinder Singh - when she, on March 7, went to meet them seeking a job."I went to meet them seeking a job. At first, the deputy general manager said there is no job, and then later asked me to wait for some time. When the entire staff left the office, he said no one gets a job so easily and asked me to meet the general manager. When I went there, the general manager said one has to make a compromise to get a job," the victims.The victim also said she filed a complaint about the incident to the committee on March 20, but no action was taken.She even claimed that her family had been receiving threats, pressuring them to withdraw the complaint.The police said an inquiry has been initiated in the matter.

Girl set ablaze for resisting molestation

A police case has been registered after a 20-year-old woman was set on fire, here on Tuesday, allegedly by his neighbour for resisting molestation.Following the incident, the girl was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital with over 70 per cent burns injuries.Dr. Manish Malhotra, who treated the victim, said they have provided her with first aid, but the injuries are severe and hence have asked the family to take her to some other hospital.As per the family of the victim, their neighbour, Ankit, forcefully entered their house on Tuesday night and tried to molest the girl, when she resisted, he poured kerosene oil on her and set her ablaze.The local police said a case under section 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered, and an investigation has been initiated.

Unnao rape case handed over to CBI

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday handed over the Unnao rape case, wherein Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar is prime accused, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).On the basis of the SIT report submitted to the state government, instruction has been given to lodge an FIR against the MLA from Unnao.Two doctors, namely Dr. D.K. Unnao rape: UP govt orders FIR against BJP MLA; case handed over to CBI

The Uttar Pradesh governmnet today ordered registration of an FIR against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in connection with the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman in Unnao district. It also ordered to hand over the twin cases of rape and the custodial death of the victim's father to the CBI. A separate inquiry report has been submitted by DIG (Prison) Love Kumar on the conduct of the Unnao jail officials during the detention of the victim's father, said an official statement issued tonight. The district magistrate of Unnao has also submitted a report to the state government on lapses on part of the district hospital. Unnao rape case: UP govt decides to hand over probe to CBI

The Yogi Adityanath government late tonight decide to hand over to the CBI the probe into the Unnao rape case in which a BJP MLA is among the accused, on a day when he made a dramatic appearance before the police but refused to surrender. Facing heat and growing outrage over the alleged involvement of MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the rape of an 18-year-old girl, the state government also decided to register an FIR against the legislator and the other accused. Ex BSP MLA booked for making extortion call

Former BSP MLA from Sahibabad, Amar Pal Sharma has been booked for allegedly making extortion calls to a builder and demanding Rs 10 lakh. Three other persons have also been booked in the case, the police said. Senior Superintendent of police Vaibhav Krishna said that the case was lodged against Sharma on the complaint of Veer Pal Chaudhary. Sharma is at present lodged in Dasna jail in the Gajendra Bhati murder case. The complainant alleged that Sharma, who had come to the court for a hearing yesterday, made the extortion call to the victim. The SSP Krishna added that the police has registered an FIR under relevant sections of IPC and were waiting for call details of a mobile number used for making the extortion call to Chaudhary.

Video of pregnant Pakistani singer who was shot dead while singing surfaces

A video clip of the pregnant Pakistani singer, who was shot dead during a festive ceremony in Sindh province, has surfaced, two days after the murder had taken place.Twenty-four-year-old Samina Samoon, also known as Samina Sindhu, was in Kanga village for an event where she was singing for her audience.As the event progressed, a man, identified as Tarique Ahmed Jatoi, asked her to stand while singing.The singer reportedly refused to comply to his demand apparently because she was pregnant. 3 accused of raising money for al-Qaeda set to change pleas

Three men, including an Indian, who pleaded not guilty to supporting terrorism by sending money to an al-Qaeda leader are due in court in Ohio for change-of-plea hearings. Federal authorities charged the men in 2015, along with a fourth who pleaded guilty last year. A federal indictment said the two pairs of brothers raised money through fraudulent credit card charges for the al-Qaeda leader beginning in 2005. One of the suspects, Ibrahim Zubair Mohammad, is scheduled to appear at a change-of-plea hearing Wednesday in federal court in Toledo. HC poser to TN govt on Nalini's premature release plea

The Madras High Court today directed the Tamil Nadu government to clarify whether a governor under Article 161 of constitution has to consult the Centre over premature release of convicts in cases handled by central agencies. Posing the question on an appeal filed by Rajiv Gandhi assassination case life convict Nalini, a bench comprising Justices K K Sasidharan and R Subramanian posted the matter to April 23 for further hearing. Nalini had filed the appeal against the 2016 order of Justice M Sathyanarayanan rejecting her prayer for premature release under a 1994 state government scheme under Art 161 (powers of Governor to grant pardon). As per the scheme, life convicts who had served 20 years of prison term were eligible for pre-mature release. The state government had opposed Nalini's plea before the single judge citing a similar matter before the Supreme Court. 1 killed, 2 inured after induction cooktop explodes

A woman was killed and two others, including a minor, were injured after an induction cooktop exploded in Howrah district today, police said. The incident happened at a house at Jujarsaha under the jurisdiction of Panchala police station, the police said. Two woman and a 6-year-old girl were in the house when the induction cooktop exploded and all of them were seriously injured, a police officer said. HC sets aside order taking over Harrisons Malayalam Co's land

The Kerala High Court today set aside an order of a special officer for taking over of vast stretches of land belonging to plantation company Harrisons Malayalam Ltd in the state, observing that the government cannot act like Robin Hood. A division bench of Justices K Vinod Chandran and Ashok Menon held that the findings based on which the order was given in June, 2016 were "legally unsustainable." It said the 'welfare state' exists for the downtrodden and the marginalised, but it cannot act like Robin Hood, which would be a negation of the democratic principles and blatant flouting of rule of law.
