Two Bulandshahr men, who came for wedding in Gr Noida, found dead

The bodies of two men, who were missing for the last five days, were recovered from a drain in Greater Noida on Friday morning, police said. The men have been identified as Vishal and Arun, both in 20s and natives of Bulandshahr, they said. "The locals had spotted the tyre of a motorcycle in the drain on Jarcha road this morning and when they poked it with sticks an entire motorcycle emerged along with the bodies of the duo," Police Circle Officer, Dadri, Avneesh Kumar said. During investigation it emerged that the duo had come for a wedding function on April 21 in Dadri's Shahpur village but did not return home in adjoining Bulandshahr district after that, he said. "A missing complaint was also made by their families in Bulandshahr," he said. Kumar said an investigation has been taken up to find the details of the incident. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and autopsy report was awaited to further proceed with the probe, he said.

Missing woman traced from Gurugram

A woman who allegedly went missing along with her children in 2014 was traced after about five years from Gurugram, police said Friday. A case regarding kidnapping of Khurshida (36), Sameer (6) and Sana (4) was registered at KM Pur police station in 2014, they said. Since then, police were trying to trace them but couldn't succeed, Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) said. It was learnt that after the death of her husband, Khurshida used to work as casual labourer to earn her livelihood. It came to notice that another labourer Devkinandan shared very cordial relations with her, the DCP added. Finally, Khurshida along with her children was traced from Gurugram almost after five years where she along with her children was living a decent and peaceful life with Devkinandan, police said.

4 arrested for abducting Noida call centre employee for ransom

Four men, accused of abducting a manager of a call centre here and demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh for his release, have been arrested, police said Friday. About 15 to 16 men had abducted Paritosh, a manager at Metro Infosolutions in Sector-63, on the intervening night of April 18 and 19, after which the call centre's owner approached the police, a senior official said. During investigation, police found that it was not a simple abduction case and the complainant had hid some financial dealings involving the key accused, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Vaibhav Krishna, said. "The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh and asked the call centre's owner, Vaibhav Bansal, and an employee Akash Shrivastav to give it to them outside AIIMS, Delhi, if they wanted to secure Paritosh's release," he said. Two members of 'Thak-Thak' gang held from south Delhi

Two suspected members of the "Thak-Thak" gang, including a juvenile, were apprehended from south Delhi and an amount of nearly Rs 50 lakh was recovered from them, police said on Friday. One of the accused was identified as P Vikash (24), a resident of Inderpuri, and the other was a juvenile, they added. An amount of Rs 49.51 lakh and a scooter were seized from their possession, the police said. On April 18, a resident of Greater Kailash-II in south Delhi lodged a police complaint, wherein he stated that he was on his way home in his Audi car from his factory situated at the Narayana Industrial area. Advocate held on charge of raping law student: Police

An advocate was arrested here Friday for allegedly raping and threatening a law student, police said. The lawyer allegedly called her to his house on April 21 and raped her, a police release said. He had later called her to his house and threatened that he would expose their 'intimate' moments if she did not give him money, it said. Following this, she lodged a complaint against him and he was arrested.

12-yr-old girl raped in Shahdara

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a person at a park in Shahdara here, police said Friday. Police were informed about the incident on Thursday. The girl's mother has lodged a complaint and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a senior police officer said. The person is yet to be identified. The officer said the victim is out of danger and is recuperating. However, she has not been able to tell police about the exact place, sequence of events or about the person yet, police said.

Mumbai: 3 aides of Pujari gang convicted for extortion, two gets 10 year jail

A special MCOCA court Friday convicted three aides of gangster Ravi Pujari for demanding extortion from a Chembur based contractor in 2014. While Vijay Rao and Mahesh Pawar were sentenced to ten years in jail, Sudhakar Kuthe got a four-year jail term, the prosecution said. Judge S M Bhosle found them guilty of the offence punishable under IPC section 387 (extortion), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) as well as provision of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). However, for want of evidence the court acquitted Yusuf Bachkana who was in touch with the convicted accused on phone from jail, chief public prosecutor Jaisingh Desai said. The accused had demanded Rs 2 crore from the contractor, after which he approached the police and the accused were held in 2014, Desai said. During the course of trial, the prosecution examined 23 witnesses, he added.

FERA violation case: SC adjourns hearing on ED's plea against Dhinakaran

Supreme Court on Friday adjourned hearing for two weeks on a plea filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader TTV Dhinakaran with regards to a Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation case.On December 15 last year, the Madras High Court had dismissed petitions filed by the AMMK leader.In his petition, Dinkaran had challenged the reassessment of his income tax for the year 1995-96 and 1996-97 by the Income Tax Department.During the hearing, Justice S M Subramaniam had said that it has been alleged that Dhinkaran did not disclose the amounts invested in foreign countries and the cases were registered under FERA.The judge had further said that the reassessments were opened on the basis of those cases while dismissing the AMMK leader's petition.Justice Subramaniam termed the petition "devoid of merit".

UP: CBI registers FIR in state-owned sugar mills disinvestment case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered an FIR in a case of alleged irregularities in the disinvestment of seven state-owned sugar mills, in the year 2010-11, leading to a loss of Rs 1179 crore to Uttar Pradesh state exchequer.Seven people have been named in the FIR for forging documents while purchasing the sugar mills.BSP president Mayawati was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh when the alleged irregularities took place.The case was earlier probed by Lucknow police. However, the Yogi Adityanath government last year recommended a CBI probe in the matter.

Tow nabbed with 15 kg charas in Pulwama

Police Friday arrested two drug peddlers from Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir following recovery of 15 kilograms of charas from their vehicle. "Police in its action targeting drug dealings in south Kashmir has arrested two drug peddlers and seized huge quantity of contraband substance," a police spokesman said. He said acting on a tip-off, cops intercepted a private car at Nikas in Pulwama and recovered approximately 15 kg of charas from the vehicle. The arrested persons have been identified Tariq Ahmad Parray and Tariq Ahmad Kant, both residents of Pulwama district, he added.

Gangrape survivor dies of medical complications, two arrested

A 20-year-old college student, who was allegedly gang-raped by four men in July last year, died of medical complications Thursday, following which two of the accused have been arrested, police said. Ankit Parekh (24) and Chirag Vaghela (23), a college student, were held Friday, said inspector K S Dave of Ramol Police Station. Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshayraj Makwana said the woman, adopted by a family when she was an infant, was allegedly raped by four men in July 2018. Because of fear and trauma, she did not tell her family about the rape until last month. When she realised that she had become pregnant because of the rape, she told her family about the incident and they approached police last month, the DCP said. Couple, juvenile arrested for looting woman at gunpoint in southeast Delhi

A husband-wife duo and their juvenile associate were arrested for allegedly looting a woman of her cash and jewellery at gunpoint in southeast Delhi's New Friends Colony last month, police said Friday. The accused couple were identified as Jubair (23), wanted criminal of Western UP, and Huda (21), residents of Aligarh and their associate Adnan (20), a resident of Ghaziabad, they said. DA case against Virbhadra Singh: SC lists CBI's plea for final hearing in October

The Supreme Court on Friday said it would hear in October the petition filed by the CBI seeking a clarification on the nature of sanction needed from a state government to probe any offence committed within its territory. The CBI has challenged in the apex court a limited part of the March 31, 2017 verdict of the Delhi High Court passed in a disproportionate assets case against former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh and others. The probe agency has said that it has challenged only the limited issue of consent in the high court verdict. The high court had said that the issue regarding consent from the state government to probe offences committed there will be adjudicated by the trial court in the case. Man detained over claim of being terrorist: Police

A man from Assam working in a private hospital here was Friday detained by police after he allegedly claimed himself to be a 'terrorist', reportedly to instill fear among his colleagues during a spat, police said. Kandarpa Das, working in the house keeping section of a hospital in the city for the past one month, was picked up for questioning following a complaint from the hospital management, they said. During investigation it was found that case had been registered against Das and three others in Naxalbari police station in Darjeeling district of West Bengal for allegedly making hoax bomb calls, police said. When asked about reports in a section of media that Das was a member of a north-east based extremist outfit, a police officer said investigations were on. DPCC's blanket order imposing environmental damages on Mayapuri traders impermissible: HC

The Delhi High Court on Friday said that prima facie it finds "impermissible" the DPCC's blanket order imposing Rs 1 lakh each as damages on over 800 traders for allegedly causing pollution by engaging in scrapping activity in west Delhi's Mayapuri. The court said the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) passed the blanket order of imposing environmental damage charges without even identifying the units or any material and said its interim order directing the DPCC not to take any coercive step against over 800 traders will continue till the next date of hearing on May 22. "It appears the NGT (national green tribunal) had directed that action be taken against polluting industries. However, it is apparent that the said direction was not complied with," Justice Vibhu Bakhru said. 2 killed in explosion near Wayanad

Two people, including a woman, were killed in an explosion at her house near Sulthan Batheri here Friday, police said. Amina (35), wife of Nasar, and their neighbour Benny were killed in the explosion at Naikatti, the investigating officer told PTI. The nature of the explosion and other aspects were under investigation, police said.
