Delhi Police on Friday arrested notorious criminal Raju Hakla alias Shyam Sunder. Reliance Communications on Thursday sought urgent approval from its lenders to release about Rs 260 crore received from income tax refunds and lying in its bank account directly to Ericsson.The development came a day after the Supreme Court held R-Com Chairman Anil Ambani in contempt for not paying Ericsson's dues worth Rs 550 crore despite having the money to do so.The apex court threatened to send the controversial businessman to jail for three months if he did not pay up what was owed in four weeks.R-Com said a sum of Rs 118 crore has already been deposited with the Supreme Court.The apex court had said the R-Com chairman and others will have to purge the contempt by paying Rs 453 crore to Ericsson in four weeks.Since the amount to be paid has been calculated at Rs 571 crore along with interest, the amount due in four weeks is Rs 453 crore.
A highly decomposed body of a man, estimated to be in his mid to late 30s, was found in a lake in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said Thursday. The body was found floating in the Waraladevi lake in adjoining Bhiwandi town Wednesday noon, police said. Police in Bhiwandi have since registered a case under section 302 and 210 of the IPC and initiated a probe into the crime, an official said. At around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, police were alerted about a body floating in the lake. A police team rushed to the spot and fished out the body and later sent it for postmortem. The hands and legs of the victim were found tied with a rope when it was fished out, indicating that someone had killed him, police said. There were no other injuries on the victim's body, the police official said.

A man from Telangana late on Tuesday night (local time) was allegedly shot dead in Florida in the United States by unidentified gunmen.45-year-old Kotha Goverdhan Reddy moved to Florida six years ago and worked at a gas station located near Pensacola area of the city, informed Madhusudan Reddy, the brother of the victim.A native of Yadadri Bhongir district, Goverdhan is survived by his wife and two children. "We received information that on Tuesday late night, two persons barged into the gas station store where Goverdhan was alone and opened fire on him," Madhusudan told ANI."The local authorities are suspecting that the two unidentified men who shot Goverdhan would be robbers. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has rejected five pleas made by Pakistan during the hearing of the Kulbhushan Jadhav case, including playing of so-called "confessional statement" of the Indian national and a request to adjourn the hearing citing illness of its ad-hoc judge.The four-day hearing in the Jadhav case started on February 18 at the ICJ headquarters in The Hague.Pakistan's delegation on Tuesday led by Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan requested the international court to adjourn the hearing in the case to appoint a new ad-hoc judge as Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani suffered cardiac arrest before the hearing. Four men was arrested for allegedly stealing 150 mobile phones from an online shopping portal's delivery hub at Alipur, police said today. A complaint was received from Maan Singh, a certified vigilance investigation expert of Flipkart security team, on February 19 that the mobile phones, being transported from their delivery hub to a warehouse at Binola, Bilaspur, were stolen, Additional Commissioner (Crime) Police Rajiv Ranjan said. A case was registered and investigation was undertaken, he said. "Four members of a gang were arrested from Dwarka area, including gang leader Santosh Kumar, leading to the recovery of 30 multi-brand new mobile phones from their possession," said the officer. The accused, Santosh Kumar, Brijmohan, Akhilesh and Ranjit, are drivers by profession with different transport companies in Delhi, he said. A 48-year-old man from here was allegedly shot dead in the US by an unidentified man, his family members claimed on Wednesday. K Govardhan Reddy, a resident of Uppal area here, was attacked by the assailant at a fuel-filling station-cum supermarket in Florida on Tuesday, according to one of Reddy's friends Ramesh. "We got the information today morning that a masked man shot dead Govardhan when he was alone at the store and fled away. As per preliminary information, the accused did not take away any cash. The motive of the killing is not known," Ramesh said based on information received from a relative staying in the US. Goverdhan is survived by a wife and two daughters. He had gone to the US around five years ago and worked as a manager there, Ramesh said.
The Gujarat High Court Wednesday quashed the death sentence awarded to a man in a triple murder case by a court in Mehsana, noting the trial judge did not take into account his mental illness while delivering the verdict. Ordering a re-trial in the case, a division bench of justices J B Pardiwala and A C Rao observed that charges were framed by the trial court at Visnagar in Mehsana district against the accused, Nagjiji Thakore, without taking into account the fact that he suffered from bipolar disorder. It asked the trial court to verify his mental condition before conducting the trial afresh as per the provisions under section 329 of the CrPC. Considering reports of the medical officer, the high court said "more than prima facie" it appeared the accused was suffering from bipolar disorder and was still under medication. The Crime Branch has moved an application in the MCOCA court here seeking issuance of a non-bailable warrant against gangster Ravi Pujari in a case of firing at leading criminal lawyer Majid Memon in 2005. The gangster, who was on the run for the last 15 years, was arrested in the West African country of Senegal on January 22, sources had said earlier. "Pujari has been arrested in Senegal on the basis of a Red Corner Notice and in light of this you are kindly requested to issue a fresh non-bailable warrant against him for extradition process in the Majid Memon firing case of 2005," the Crime Branch said in an application filed earlier this week. The hearing on the application, moved before special judge S M Bhosale, was adjourned for Thursday. A local court Wednesday sentenced three people to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in connection with the rape of a minor girl for four years. She was raped between 2010 and 2013 during her stay at a short-stay home here, and when she became pregnant, they terminated it. The Special POCSO (Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act) court judge Ajanta Sadangi awarded rigorous imprisonment of ten years to the three accused after convicting them. The convicts were the stay-home's in-charge Goura Chandra Khamari (62), gardener Shyam Patra (42), and warden Mama Behera (33). While Khamari and Patra raped her a number of times in the Bapuji Seva Sadan at Chandipur, Behera was convicted of abetting the crime. Two other accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
