Gurgaon man booked for raping live-in partner's foster child

Noida Police has booked a Gurgaon-based man for allegedly raping a 16-year-old foster daughter of his live-in partner, officials said Wednesday. The minor girl, who hails from Assam, fled from Gurgaon last month and arrived in Noida, where she is currently lodged at a women's shelter home, they said. According to police, the minor girl was adopted by her neighbours after the demise of her parents in Assam. The couple had first moved to Nepal and then to Gurgaon, where they eventually got separated. The woman, along with the girl, then started staying with the accused, an official said. "It was there that the girl was sexually assaulted multiple times by the man. Last month, she fled Gurgaon with the help of a man who brought her to the shelter home in Noida," the official said. 5-yr-old special child drown in school's hydrotherapy pool

A five-year-old boy drowned in a hydrotherapy pool Wednesday at a school for special children run by the Eastern Command Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) here, a Defence official said. The boy, who suffered from autism, reportedly died after drowning in the pool. The body of the boy, a resident of Thakurpukur in the southern part of the city, was found floating in the pool around 1.05 pm, a senior Kolkata Police officer said. "We have received a complaint from the parents of the boy and started a probe into the matter," he said. Describing the incident as "tragic", the official said "We are looking into the matter to ascertain how it happened." The Asha school is situated in the compound of the Command Hospital at Alipore here, the official said. It was established in September, 1992 to provide education, care and rehabilitation to the differently-abled children of defence personnel and civilians.

Salman Khan's appeal against verdict in blackbuck poaching case postponed to April 3

Actor Salman Khan's appeal against the CJM Rural Court ruling in the Blackbuck case has been adjourned till April 3. Ayurvedic practitioner shot dead in Ghaziabad

A practitioner of Ayurvedic medicines was shot dead by three bike-borne masked assailants at Loni here around 8 am on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place in the Rishi Market colony area, they said. Veer Singh (42), resident of Vikas Nagar area, was inside his Ayurvedic dispensary when a masked assailant shot him thrice, DIG Upendra Agarwal said. The accused had arrived along with two accomplices who were keeping a watch outside the dispensary, he said, adding that they fled from the scene soon after. The victim was immediately rushed to the GTB hospital, where he succumbed to injuries, Agarwal said. An FIR was registered against four members of a neighbouring family, the DIG said, adding that old enmity may have been the reason behind the murder. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused persons, he said.

Woman bludgeoned to death by son in Ghaziabad

A 55-year-old woman was brutally killed by her son apparently over a land dispute here Wednesday, police said. Ramvati was bludgeoned to death by Manoj (21) with a gas cylinder after an argument over some ancestral land in the morning, they said. A neighbour of the deceased happened to witness Manoj attacking Ramvati and informed police after bolting the door of the house from outside, DIG Upendra Agarwal said. Policeman ends life by consuming poison in C'garh

A sub-inspector (SI) of police allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district, police said on Wednesday. Vivek V K, who was posted in the police line Mahasamund, was found dead on Wednesday at the official residence of Station House Officer (SHO) of Saraipali police station at Saraipali town in the district, Mahasamund Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told PTI. SHO Saraipali Pradip Minj said Vivek had come to his official residence and sleeping in a room which was locked from inside. "When Vivek did not come out of his room for a long time, Minj checked through a window and found him lying unconscious," he said. Trader shot dead in Belgharia

A trader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in North 24 Parganas district early Wednesday, police said. Barrackpore Police Commissionerate sources said Sukhendu Kahar, a seller of chicken at a local market, was shot at from point blank range by two men who barged into his house at Belgharia, in the northern outskirts of the city, at around 1.30 am. Kahar's wife and other family members were threatened at gunpoint and beaten up when they tried to resist. Kahar was declared brought dead by doctors when he was rushed to R G Kar Hospital, sources said. Local CPI(M) MLA Manas Mukherjee visited the spot and demanded immediate arrest of the assailants.

SC collegium transfers high court judges

The Supreme Court collegium has transferred four judges to the Manipur, Allahabad, Calcutta and Kerala high courts while refusing to accede to a request by one of them to reconsider the recommendation to transfer him. Brother-sister duo arrested for killing, robbing two people

To fulfil their financial needs, a 22-year-old unemployed man and his sister allegedly killed two people, including a DTC driver, after looting them in two different incidents in outer north Delhi district, police said Wednesday. The arrested duo Shiv Kumar (22) and Neelam (23) were residents of Bakhatarpur village. On February 12, an Auto driver, Sanjay was reported missing at Bhalswa Dairy police station and the same day, his body was found in a filed in Ramjanpuron village, police said. The International Court of Justice on Wednesday said that it has not received any evidence that the ad-hoc judge for Pakistan is unable or unwilling to continue to exercise his duties in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. Pakistan, which presented its case on Tuesday, asked the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to adjourn the case, citing the illness of its ad-hoc judge Tassaduq Hussain Jillani who suffered a cardiac attack ahead of the hearing. A Kashmiri girl, who had gone missing a few days back, was found Wednesday, amid rumours that she was abducted to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Wednesday. FICN case: NIA arrests Malda-based man from West Bengal

An accused wanted in a fake Indian currency note (FICN) case, also known as the Junagadh case, has been apprehended Wednesday from West Bengal by the NIA, an agency spokesperson said. Tahir alias Kaliya, a resident of Malda district in West Bengal, was arrested by a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from his home town for his "active role in procurement, trafficking and supply of huge quantities of FICN," the spokesman said. The case pertains to a gang of criminals who allegedly run a FICN racket from West Bengal and subsequently circulated forged currency in different parts of the country including in Gujarat's Junagadh area. The NIA had filed a criminal case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) to probe these links in January. Children's fight that led to killing of 'wrong man' in Gr Noida

A children's fight in a school led to the killing of a 45-year-old man in a dramatic case of mistaken identity in Greater Noida, with police on Wednesday arresting two men who had allegedly planned the killing. Man held for robbing Mauritian woman in Delhi Metro

A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing a Mauritian woman's hand bag while she was travelling in the Delhi Metro, the police said Wednesday. Ajay Kumar, a resident of Sant Nagar, had on February 16 stolen Misrah Banon Osman's bag while she was on her way to Netaji Subhash Place from Rajouri Garden. According to the online complaint filed by Osman at the Netaji Subhash Place Metro Police Station, her bag had USD 3000, some Indian currency notes and other articles.
