The Customs department Sunday seized nearly two kg gold, valued at around Rs 63 lakh, from six women air passengers, including five Sri Lankan nationals, at the airport here, officials said. Among the women, one was Indian who arrived from Singapore. The Customs officials found 689 gm of gold, valued at nearly Rs 22 lakh, concealed on her person during a detailed search and put her under arrest, they added. The officials seized 1,291 gm of gold from the five Sri Lankan women. The yellow metal was found in the form of chains and cut bits and was concealed on their person, they said, adding that the gold was valued at around Rs 41 lakh. An e-rickshaw driver has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy from New Delhi Railway Station as he wanted a child, police said Sunday. On November 17, a woman, resident of Jaipur, filed a complaint that her son was kidnapped by a man from New Delhi Railway Station Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) said. A 41-year-old Japanese national was stabbed multiple times when he was headed towards a gurdwara in northwest Delhi's Siraspur allegedly by a group of men who then decamped with his valuables, police said Sunday. The victim has been identified as Tadayuki Kurihara, they added. The incident took place on Friday at around 6.30 pm when the victim was walking alone towards a gurdwara in Siraspur to attend Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations, a senior police officer said. Police said the victim had been on a two-month solo trip and landed in India three days ago. The body of a 34-year-old man was found in the basement of an under-construction building at the Valmiki temple near Virat Chowk in south Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar Sunday, police said. The deceased has been identified as Beru, they said. According to police, the body was identified by the victim's brother, sister and sister-in-law who reside near the Virat Cinema-Dakshinpuri. Beru used to stay with them earlier. At least three persons were killed and 15 others injured when a bus collided with a motorcycle at Baliasahi in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday, police said. The bus, which was heading towards Baripada, collided with the motorcycle head on and overturned on National Highway No 49 under the jurisdiction of Jharpokhria police station, police said. While the motorcycle rider died on the spot, his aunt who was riding pillion, and the cleaner of the bus succumbed to their injuries at the hospital here, Inspector In-Charge of Jharpokhria police station, S C Mallick said. An Egyptian court on Sunday upheld death sentences for nine people convicted of the murder of a top prosecutor in a car bombing three years ago, a judiciary source said. Hisham Barakat was killed in June 2015 when a bomb struck his convoy in Cairo after jihadist calls for attacks on the judiciary to avenge a crackdown on Islamists. Two years later an Egyptian criminal court sentenced 28 people to death for their involvement in his murder, with only 15 defendants present in court for the verdict at the time. On Sunday, Egypt's court of cassation confirmed the death sentence for nine of the 15, while reducing the sentences of the six others to life imprisonment, the judicial source said. A man was shot dead allegedly by his friend in West Bengal's Nadia district Sunday, police said. Subhas Biswas (45), a resident of Bijaynagar village was shot dead allegedly by his friend Bibhas Biswas, a former CRPF constable, they said. A 53-year-old woman and her two granddaughters drowned in a pond at a village in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district on Sunday, police said. The woman, D Parameswari, was washing clothes in the pond when her granddaughters, Meena (4) and Durga (6), who were playing nearby, slipped and fell in the water, a police official said. The woman tried to rescue the two minors, but they all drowned, he said. The Bombay High Court has come to the aid of a lawyer from Solapur whose registration to practice as an advocate was suspended by the Bar Council of India (BCI) in 2011. Lawyer Mahendra Kawchale's registration was suspended by the BCI, first, for submitting a fake law degree, and then his application for re-registration was kept pending as he had been convicted in a case of cheating and forgery. A bench of justices BP Dharmadhikari and Sarang Kotwal directed the BCI to look into Kawchale's application seeking re-registration and take an appropriate decision within a week. In May 2011, the BCI suspended Kawchale's registration with the council and his enrolment that enabled him to practise law. The Supreme Court has come to the rescue of a divorcee woman by expunging the imputations made on her character by her late estranged husband to ensure that she leads her "rest of her life with a sense of dignity and pride". The top court, however, refused to interfere with the findings of the Delhi High Court and trial court which had dissolved her marriage with her estranged husband on the ground of cruelty.
