Govt school teacher shot dead in Delhi

A 38-year-old school teacher was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Delhi on Monday, police said. The deceased has been identified as Sunita, a resident of Bawana village and a teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School in Ferozepur town, Haryana. Sunita was going to school on her scooty in the morning, said Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini). "The police received a call at around 8.05 am regarding the shooting incident in Rohini's Bawana area. After reaching the spot, it was found that a school teacher sustained three bullet injuries -- two in the chest and one in the stomach -- and was lying in a pool of blood," Gupta said. Sunita, who is survived by a 16-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son, was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. The body was handed over to her family members after a post-mortem examination, the DCP added.

3 held for killing man in Noida

Three persons accused of killing a man in a scuffle that broke out during a cricket match at Kalonda village in Greater Noida two months ago have been arrested, police said Monday. "The three accused, who were carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 each, were arrested on Sunday," Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vineet Jaisawal told reporters. The arrested have been identified as Jabbar Khan, Shahrukh, son of Jabbar, and Khalid, all from Kalonda village, the SP said. On August 25, a fight between children had escalated into a clash among adults at Kalonda village, under Jarcha Police Station limits, officials said The clashing sides resorted to gun fire and brickbats to attack each other, the said, adding that five people were hospitalised after the clash. NGT directs EDMC to take action against welding, painting units in Laxmi Nagar

The National Green Tribunal has taken note of a plea alleging that welding and painting work was being done in a residential area in Laxmi Nagar and directed the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to look into the matter. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel formed a committee comprising the EDMC commissioner and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee to look into the matter and take appropriate action in accordance with law. Court releases AAP MLA on probation to reform himself

A Delhi court has released Aam Aadmi Party MLA Prakash Jarwal, held guilty of intimidating a woman in Sangam Vihar area last year, on probation for one year. The court directed Jarwal to pay Rs 1 lakh as the cost of court proceedings and asked him to ensure that he is not involved in any offence during the period, saying that any registration of FIR against him may make him liable for cancellation of probation. Jarwal will receive the sentence as may be given by the court if the benefit of probation is withdrawn, the court said on October 27. PNB scam: Nirav Modi opposes ED's fugitive offender plea

Diamond trader Nirav Modi, a prime accused in the multi-crore PNB scam, Monday filed an application before a special court opposing the ED's complaint to have him declared a "fugitive economic offender" under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA). Modi filed 10 applications Monday before the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court of judge M S Azmi, but his prime argument was that the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) complaint had not been filed in accordance with the law and, thus, must not be considered valid by the court. Modi argued that as per the FEOA, a complaint under the said act may be filed by the director or any other officer not below the rank of deputy director "authorised" by the director. Koregaon-Bhima case: SC grants Maharashtra police till Dec 1 to file charge sheet

In relief to the Maharashtra police, the Supreme Court Monday granted it time till December 1 to file the charge sheet in Koregaon-Bhima violence case and ensure that the accused rights activists do not become entitled to statutory bail on account of non-filing of the probe report within the legally permissible period. Under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), if police does not file the charge sheet within 90 days in serious offences, the arrested accused become entitled for grant of statutory bail on the ground of delay. A Pune special court, on the expiry of 90-day deadline for filing of the charge sheet on September 2, 2018, had extended the time by another 90 days for filing the probe report in the violence case by taking note of the plea of the state police. HC reserves verdict on appeals in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which Sajjan Kumar was acquitted

The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its verdict on the appeals challenging the trial court's judgement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was acquitted. A bench of justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel concluded hearing arguments on the appeals filed by the CBI, riots victims and the convicts and asked the parties to file written submissions, if any, by November 22. A criminal carrying Rs 50,000 reward on his head was arrested along with three of his aides in Bihar's Madhubani district, police said on Monday. Acting on a tip off, a joint team of district police and Special Task Force (STF) raided Chhajna Badki Gachhi locality under Laukahi police station and arrested the four on Sunday, Superintendent of Police Dipak Kumar Barnwal said. One of them, Pawan Sah, was carrying Rs 50,000 reward on his head. He was wanted in more than 18 cases lodged in various police stations of the district, the SP said adding that he was booked for murder, kidnapping and other charges. No woman employee can be called by a minister or male officer alone to his office, according to fresh guidelines issued Monday by the Punjab State Women Commission. The panel issued the fresh rules to all government departments, saying these are meant to prevent sexual harassment of any woman official. The new guidelines to prevent sexual harassment of women at workplace come at a time when a Punjab cabinet minister is facing allegations of sending an "inappropriate text" to a woman government officer. The RSS said Monday that the Supreme Court should make an early decision on the Ram Janmabhoomi land dispute in Ayodhya and the Union government should bring a legislation to remove hurdles, if any, in the way of the construction of a Ram temple at the site.
