Unidentified gunmen kill policeman in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa district
A policeman was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants on Monday in the northwest Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, police said. Police constable Muhammad Nadeem, working as a Naib court, was on his way to join his duty when assailants opened fire on him near Zafarabad colony of Dera Ismail Khan district, they said. A critically injured Nadeem was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Court sends son of former BSP MP Ashish Pandey to 14 day judicial custody
A Delhi court on Monday sent son of former BSP MP Ashish Pandey, who was arrested for brandishing pistol at a five-star hotel, to 14-day judicial custody. Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmendra Singh sent the accused to jail till November 5 after the police said that he was not required for further custodial interrogation. The court had earlier rejected his bail plea and issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Pandey had allegedly brandished a pistol at guests of a five-star hotel here threatening them in the foyer, a video of which went viral on the social media. He hails from Lucknow and is the son of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Rakesh Pandey. His brother, Ritesh Pandey, is an MLA in Uttar Pradesh. Congress worker allegedly hacked to death over Facebook dispute
A shocking incident has surfaced in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area on Sunday evening after a Congress party worker Manoj Dubey was allegedly killed over a Facebook post.The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination.Speaking to ANI, Manoj Kumar, brother-in-law of the deceased, said, "He was killed just moments after he posted a message on Facebook stating that Congress will come back to power in 2019. On this, several people belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bajrang Dal cursed him online and wrote harsh comments on the post."Speaking further about the incident, Kumar said that several agitated boys residing in the same area attacked the Congress party worker with sword and sharp weapons.The police arrested two people in connection with the murder and did not reveal the identity of the accused, he added.More details are awaited.

Anticipatory bail applicable, contemplating amendment to restore provision: U'khand to SC
The Uttarakhand government informed the Supreme Court on Monday that it was contemplating an amendment to restore the provision of anticipatory bail, as done by Uttar Pradesh, to enable its citizens to get pre-arrest relief. It told a bench comprising Justices S A Bobde and L N Rao that the state's high court had last month held that section 438 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which provides for grant of bail to persons apprehending arrest, would be applicable in Uttarakhand. "438 CrPC is applicable. Provision of anticipatory bail is there in Uttarakhand now," the state's counsel said while referring to the high court's order. The counsel said the state "in principle" agrees that the section should be available to the citizens. The Uttar Pradesh government too had recently informed the apex court that the state Assembly has passed an amendment to re-introduce the provision for anticipatory bail, scrapped during the Emergency in 1976, and it was awaiting assent of the ...
Witness against Bishop Franco Mulakkal in nun rape case found dead
Father Kuriakose Kattuthara, who was a witness in the rape case filed by a nun against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, was Monday found dead under "mysterious circumstances" in Dasuya in Punjab's Hoshairpur district, police said. Kattuthara, 62, was found unconscious in his room this morning and was taken to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said. Police said the cause of the death would be known after postmortem. According to police, no visible injury marks were found on the body. There was vomit in the room, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) A R Sharma. The viscera will be sent for examination which will throw light on the cause of the death, the DSP said. Wife of UP legislative council chief arrested for killing son
The police on Monday arrested Mira Yadav, the wife of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council Chairman Ramesh Yadav for murdering their 22-year-old son Abhijeet Yadav. Abhijeet's body was found under mysterious circumstances at the official residence of Ramesh Yadav in Darul Shafa here on Sunday, police said. The police claimed that Mira had confessed to her crime, however, she insisted that her son had committed suicide and that she was being framed. ASP Sarvesh Kumar said that the body had marks on the neck and the post-mortem report confirmed death by strangulation. According to police, the family members had tried to cremate Abhijeet's body but it were stopped due to their timely intervention.
Four of a family charred to death in Odisha
Four members of a family, including two women, were charred to death after their house caught fire at Banapata village in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district, a police officer said on Monday. Nabaghana Sahu, his wife Kamala Sahu and son-in-law Harekrushna Mallick died on the spot on Sunday night, while daughter Rubina succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in neighbouring Cuttack district early Monday, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) S C Mallick said. Local residents, on noticing the smoke and flames, pulled the four members out of their house before informing the police, he said. "It is not known as to what led to the fire at Sahu household in Kujanga police station area of the district on Sunday, but police are probing the case from all angles," the SDPO said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Saint killed with an axe in Rajasthan
A sant allegedly killed another sant using an axe at a temple in Rajasthan's Karauli district apparently to steal jewellery, police said Monday. The accused, sant Balakdas alias Lalaram, a resident of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh, had come to stay at the Hanuman Temple in Badapura village of Karauli. Sant Mauni Baba alias Alok Singh Rajput had been living in the Karauli temple for a few weeks. According to Masalpur police station SHO Mahendra Singh Chaudhary, Balakdas killed Mauni Baba using an axe to steal jewellery he was wearing on Sunday. The accused saint was trying to escape with gold rings, locket and cash when villagers and others living in the temple's ashram apprehended him and handed over to the police. An FIR was lodged by temple priest Sajjan Singh Rajput, following which the accused was detained after registering a case, police said. The axe used in the crime has been recovered, they said.
Telugu film producer booked for rash driving
A case of rash driving was registered against Telugu film producer D Suresh Babu Monday after his car allegedly knocked down a couple and their son on a scooter in Secunderabad, police said. The incident occurred Sunday night when the car he was driving, hit the two-wheeler coming from opposite direction, they said adding the couple and their child were injured. A case was filed under IPC section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), police said. The police have issued also a notice to the producer asking him to appear before them or the court for investigation.

Farmer killed over water dispute in MP's Sehore district
A farmer was killed after some persons with whom he had a dispute over irrigation water hit his motorbike with an SUV and assaulted him in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh, police said Monday. The incident took place at Malbiyan square under Rehti Police Station limits in Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's assembly constituency around 1.30 Sunday morning, police said. Victim Haricharan Sahu (42), resident of Bordi village, was returning on motorbike with his friend Ramkishor after lodging complaint over a water dispute at Rehti Police Station, said Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chandel. SC refuses to hear Daati Maharaj's plea opposing transfer of case to CBI
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear the plea of self-styled godman Daati Maharaj against the Delhi High Court order of transferring the rape case against him to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).Last week, Daati Maharaj had moved the Supreme Court arguing that he was not heard before passing the order to transfer the case to the CBI.The High Court on October 3 allowed the alleged victim's plea seeking transfer of the case to the CBI, saying that the manner in which the Delhi Police carried out the probe "casts a shadow on the investigation."Previously, the probe was being helmed by the Delhi Police Crime Branch.Daati Maharaj is accused of raping a disciple two years ago and was booked under Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 354 (molestation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). BJP leader Raja apologises for remarks 'against judiciary' in Madras HC
BJP national secretary H Raja tendered his unconditional apology in the Madras High Court Monday in a suo motu contempt proceeding against him for his alleged derogatory remarks against the judiciary. The court dropped the contempt proceedings against Raja after recording his apology. When the matter came up before a division bench of justices C T Selvam and M Nirmal Kumar, Raja appeared before it as per an earlier direction of the court. Raja, in his affidavit, stated that he was emotional when he made the remark and tendered his unconditional apology for it. The contempt proceedings against the BJP leader were initiated suo motu by the division bench on September 17.
