A policeman was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants on Monday in the northwest Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, police said. Police constable Muhammad Nadeem, working as a Naib court, was on his way to join his duty when assailants opened fire on him near Zafarabad colony of Dera Ismail Khan district, they said. A critically injured Nadeem was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
A Delhi court on Monday sent son of former BSP MP Ashish Pandey, who was arrested for brandishing pistol at a five-star hotel, to 14-day judicial custody. Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmendra Singh sent the accused to jail till November 5 after the police said that he was not required for further custodial interrogation. The court had earlier rejected his bail plea and issued a non-bailable warrant against him. A shocking incident has surfaced in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area on Sunday evening after a Congress party worker Manoj Dubey was allegedly killed over a Facebook post.The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination.Speaking to ANI, Manoj Kumar, brother-in-law of the deceased, said, "He was killed just moments after he posted a message on Facebook stating that Congress will come back to power in 2019. The Uttarakhand government informed the Supreme Court on Monday that it was contemplating an amendment to restore the provision of anticipatory bail, as done by Uttar Pradesh, to enable its citizens to get pre-arrest relief. It told a bench comprising Justices S A Bobde and L N Rao that the state's high court had last month held that section 438 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which provides for grant of bail to persons apprehending arrest, would be applicable in Uttarakhand. "438 CrPC is applicable. Provision of anticipatory bail is there in Uttarakhand now," the state's counsel said while referring to the high court's order. The counsel said the state "in principle" agrees that the section should be available to the citizens. Father Kuriakose Kattuthara, who was a witness in the rape case filed by a nun against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, was Monday found dead under "mysterious circumstances" in Dasuya in Punjab's Hoshairpur district, police said. Kattuthara, 62, was found unconscious in his room this morning and was taken to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said. Police said the cause of the death would be known after postmortem. According to police, no visible injury marks were found on the body. There was vomit in the room, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) A R Sharma. The viscera will be sent for examination which will throw light on the cause of the death, the DSP said. The police on Monday arrested Mira Yadav, the wife of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council Chairman Ramesh Yadav for murdering their 22-year-old son Abhijeet Yadav. Abhijeet's body was found under mysterious circumstances at the official residence of Ramesh Yadav in Darul Shafa here on Sunday, police said. The police claimed that Mira had confessed to her crime, however, she insisted that her son had committed suicide and that she was being framed. Four members of a family, including two women, were charred to death after their house caught fire at Banapata village in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district, a police officer said on Monday. Nabaghana Sahu, his wife Kamala Sahu and son-in-law Harekrushna Mallick died on the spot on Sunday night, while daughter Rubina succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in neighbouring Cuttack district early Monday, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) S C Mallick said. A sant allegedly killed another sant using an axe at a temple in Rajasthan's Karauli district apparently to steal jewellery, police said Monday. The accused, sant Balakdas alias Lalaram, a resident of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh, had come to stay at the Hanuman Temple in Badapura village of Karauli. Sant Mauni Baba alias Alok Singh Rajput had been living in the Karauli temple for a few weeks. According to Masalpur police station SHO Mahendra Singh Chaudhary, Balakdas killed Mauni Baba using an axe to steal jewellery he was wearing on Sunday. The accused saint was trying to escape with gold rings, locket and cash when villagers and others living in the temple's ashram apprehended him and handed over to the police. An FIR was lodged by temple priest Sajjan Singh Rajput, following which the accused was detained after registering a case, police said. The axe used in the crime has been recovered, they said.
A case of rash driving was registered against Telugu film producer D Suresh Babu Monday after his car allegedly knocked down a couple and their son on a scooter in Secunderabad, police said.
