Jurgen Klopp has wished Mohamed Salah good luck sort of for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Liverpool's top scorer this season could be absent for more than a month depending on how Egypt performs in the Ivory Coast. If Egypt reaches the final as it did in 2022 it would mean Salah missing at least seven Liverpool games, potentially eight if the Merseyside club gets past Arsenal on Sunday in the third round of the FA Cup. Defensive midfielder Wataru Endo will also be out of the lineup for the Premier League leader while on international duty for Japan at the Asian Cup. I said, If I wish you good luck it would be a lie,' the Liverpool manager joked Friday. No, I do, obviously. From a personal point of view, I would be overly happy if they go out of the group stage." "But, it's probably not possible, so it's fine and then they can go and win it as well. Good luck, see you, and come back healthy that's pretty much the words. Liverpool managed just fine without Salah last t
Mohamed Salah headed off to the Africa Cup of Nations on the back of a starring role for Liverpool in its 4-2 win over Newcastle that opened up a three-point lead in the English Premier League. An individual performance that started with his latest failure from the penalty spot ended with Salah scoring Liverpool's first and last goals and having a hand in the other two for his team in a chaotic game in wet and wild conditions at Anfield. All of the goals came in an end-to-end second half. The league pauses for the FA Cup and then a winter break lasting much of the rest of January with Liverpool looking the team most likely to stop Manchester City winning an unprecedented fourth straight top-flight title. City was in third place, five points behind Liverpool and two behind Aston Villa with a game in hand. Salah, who could be missing until mid-February depending on how far Egypt advances in the Africa Cup, could be the player to lead Liverpool to a record-tying 20th league ...
Liverpool soccer star Mohamed Salah says he shares the pain of grieving families at Christmas amid the Israel-Hamas war. The Egypt international posted a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: Christmas is a time when families get together and celebrate. With the brutal war going on in the Middle East, especially the death and destruction in Gaza, this year we get to Christmas with very heavy hearts and we share the pain of those families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones. Please do not forget them and do not get used to their suffering. Merry Christmas. Egypt has floated an ambitious plan to end the war.
Liverpool advanced to the round of 16 of the Europa League with a game to spare after Luis Daz and Cody Gakpo scored early to set the tone in a 4-0 victory over Austria's LASK. Daz headed in a cross from Joe Gomez for the opener in the 12th before Gakpo tapped in Mohamed Salah's pass three minutes later at Anfield. Salah made it 3-0 early in the second half in what was his 199th goal for the Reds. Gakpo added his second in stoppage time. Liverpool is four points clear atop Group E with 12 points. Toulouse in second on eight after a 0-0 draw with Union Saint-Gilloise. Leverkusen remained the only team with a perfect record after five games. Victor Boniface and substitute Patrik Schick contributed a goal apiece for a 2-0 victory at Hacken in Group H and a place in the round of 16. Tom Soucek struck late again to help West Ham beat TSC Backa Topola 1-0 and advance to the knockout stage. The midfielder met Maxwel Cornet's cross at the far post to volley home the winner in the 89th min

Liverpool completed the overhaul of its midfield by signing Netherlands international Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich in a deal worth 40 million euros (USD 43.1 million) on the final day of the summer transfer window. Gravenberch joins fellow midfielders Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo in joining Liverpool this summer while Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have left. The 21-year-old Gravenberch has signed a five-year deal just 12 months after joining Bayern from Ajax. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel was willing to let Gravenberch leave because he didn't fit into the system. "He's a box-to-box midfielder for me, an attacking player," Tuchel said on Friday before the signing was finalised. "The main problem for him is that we don't really have a No. 8 in our 4-2-3-1 system. And we're spoilt for choice up front, with really experienced players. "Ryan is a very nice, hard-working, committed player. He wasn't happy
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk could be handed a longer suspension after being charged by the Football Association on Tuesday for his reaction to being shown a red card against Newcastle in the Premier League over the weekend. The Netherlands center back was sent off for a foul on Alexander Isak in the first half of Liverpool's 2-1 victory at St. James' Park on Sunday. Van Dijk initially refused to leave the field and then remonstrated with referee John Brooks. The sending-off will earn him an automatic one-match ban, to be served against Aston Villa this weekend, but the suspension could be increased. It's alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official," the FA said. Van Dijk has until Friday to respond to the charge.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has downplayed speculation that Mohamed Salah could move to Saudi Arabia. Sections of the British media reported Thursday that Al-Ittihad wanted to buy the 31-year-old Salah, who has two years left on his deal at Liverpool. There's nothing to talk about from our point of view, Klopp said Friday. "Mo Salah is a Liverpool player. Obviously for the things we do, essential. "There's nothing there. If there would be something, the answer would be no.'" Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has said this month the Egypt forward was committed to Liverpool.
Liverpool signed Japan midfielder Wataru Endo from German club Stuttgart on Friday. The 30-year-old Endo was in the last year of his contract at Stuttgart, where he was the captain. Endo played in all four of Japan's games at the World Cup last year. He was always on my list, just usually we don't sign players of this age group," Liverpool manager Jrgen Klopp said. "He is obviously a top fit and we will have a lot of fun with him. I'm really sure he can help us immediately, which is super-cool because the season already started. The signing comes after Liverpool missed out on another defensive midfielder, Moiss Caicedo, who opted for Chelsea instead. Endo is a defensive midfielder who can also play in the center of defense. He had been at Stuttgart since 2020 and scored five goals in 33 Bundesliga games last season as the club narrowly avoided relegation.

Jordan Henderson was a notable absentee as Liverpool beat Karlsruher 4-2 in a pre-season friendly as the England midfielder closes in on a move to Saudi Arabian team Al-Ettifaq. Liverpool has reportedly agreed in principle a deal worth 12 million pounds ($15.5 million) for its Premier League and Champions League-winning captain. The move would see Henderson link up with Liverpool great Steven Gerrard, who has just been hired as manager of the Saudi Pro League team. The potential signing of the 33-year-old Henderson is further evidence of the growing lure of Saudi soccer as the oil-rich kingdom targets leading players from Europe's top leagues. Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante are among the star names to have headed there during the offseason, with Riyad Mahrez also expected to move to Al-Ahli after Manchester City reportedly agreed deal worth up to 30 million pounds ($38.7 million) for its winger. Henderson's former Liverpool teammate Roberto Firmino has joined Al-Ahli, while anothe

Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani has entered the race to bid for world-renowned English football club Liverpool FC's takeover, reported a leading English daily. The English Premier League giants have been put up for sale by their current owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who bought the Merseyside club in October 2010 and have reportedly appointed Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to assist them in selling the team. According to 'The Mirror', the FSG are willing to sell the club for 4 billion British pound.
