Stalin urges DMK workers to strive to win all LS seats in TN, Puducherry

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday exhorted the party workers to strive to win all the 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state and the lone constituency in neighbouring in Puducherry in the Parliamentary elections scheduled next year. Addressing a mammoth gathering here, where more than 4,000 people from various political parties including the AIADMK and DMDK joined the ruling DMK, Stalin reminded that the Secular Democratic Alliance (SDA), led by his party had lost one seat to the opposition in the previous Lok Sabha elections in 2019. He urged the partymen to work hard to win all the 40 seats (39 in TN and 1 in Puducherry) in the coming elections, since the people had given a clear mandate for the SDA by giving a thumping victory to the alliance partner-Congress' candidate- in the recent Erode East Assembly bypoll. Stalin said the win in Erode East was a reflection of the good governance and schemes given to the people of Tamil Nadu, like free bus travel fo

Lies on migrant workers a fallout of call for oppn unity against BJP: TN CM

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has alleged the "lies spread" regarding the attacks on migrant workers in the state was a fallout of his recent call for opposition unity to dislodge the ruling BJP at the Centre next year and blamed the saffron party functionaries for doing so. In his "Ungalil Oruvan" question and answer series, the chief of the ruling DMK asserted no migrant worker in the state has been assaulted as alleged. Many such workers were employed in Tamil Nadu for a long time and never have they faced any issues, he said. "Some have been preparing fake videos and spreading lies. The BJP functionaries in north India have done this with an agenda. You will understand the conspiracy behind doing so, if you notice that such lies were spread the very next day I highlighted the need for political organisations opposed to the BJP joining hands at the national level," he said. Industry bodies ask Stalin to put out Hindi message among migrant workforce

With Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin assuring protection to migrant workers amid rumours of attacks on them, various industry bodies on Saturday here requested him to telecast messages in Hindi to allay fears of the labourers coming from the Hindi-speaking region to the state. Federation of Coimbatore Industrial Association (FOCIA) said such a step was necessary since the workers have been misled that the state was unsafe for them as fake news about attacks on Hindi-speaking migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu have been unleashed on social media sites, which has triggered panic among the labourers' families back in Bihar. Stalin warned against those spreading rumours and fake news and termed them as "anti-Indians". Earlier in the day, the Tamil Nadu CM reassured his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar that all migrant workers are safe in the State and he asserted that swift action would be taken against rumour-mongers spreading panic. DMK aims stopping Modi from getting one more stint in power: Stalin

The BJP should not come back to power at the Centre and the Saffron party's Narendra Modi must not become Prime Minister again and that is his party's stand, DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said here on Thursday. When asked on Jammu Kashmir National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah nudging him to get on to the national political scene, he told reporters here that he was already involved in national politics. To a question he said: "I have been repeatedly telling, I spoke about this in yesterday's meeting (his birthday rally) too. Our policy for now is, rather than who should become the Prime Minister, who must not become the PM and which party must not be in power (should be the focus)." Stalin, in essence, reiterated his party's stand that the target is about preventing BJP getting another stint in power at the Centre and stopping Modi from becoming Prime Minister again. Relax paddy procurement norms to help farmers in Cauvery delta: Stalin

Ready for harvest paddy crops spread over one lakh hectares in Cauvery delta region has submerged following unseasonal rainfall, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday and urged relaxation of paddy procurement norms including stipulation on moisture content. When paddy (Samba) is all set for harvest this month, heavy unseasonal rains in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Pudukkottai districts have inundated the standing crop covering one lakh hectares as per the state government's preliminary assessment, Stalin said in a letter to Modi. Samba is a long-term crop and it is the main crop for farmers of Cauvery delta region. Kuruvai is a short-duration crop. Though all efforts are on to drain the water, "we are concerned that the moisture content in the harvested grain is likely to be much higher due to the exposure to heavy rains." DMK minister S M Nasar lands in row over 'stone' hurling incident

A controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu over a DMK minister angrily hurling something, apparently at a party worker, with the BJP state unit alleging he threw "stones at people in frustration." There was no immediate response from the minister concerned, SM Nasar who holds the Milk and Dairy Development portfolio, or the ruling DMK over the issue. A video of the minister picking up something from the ground angrily and hurling it at someone has gone viral. Nasar had reportedly gone to a venue here to oversee arrangements for a party event and was apparently miffed at something. It was not clear whether he threw a stone or a lump of earth. However, BJP TN unit president K Annamalai alleged the minister threw stones at people. "In India's history, has anybody seen a govt minister throwing stones at people?" he asked in a tweet. Annamalai uploaded the viral video on his micro-blogging page. "Throwing stones at people in frustration. No decency, No decorum & treating people like ...

The Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees including teachers, pensioners and family pensioners would be increased from 34 per cent to 38 per cent with immediate effect, Chief Minister M K Stalin said here on Sunday. The increase, effective January 1, 2023, would benefit about 16 lakh staff and the decision was taken after considering the representation of government employees, he said. Ensure enough opportunities for Tamils in govt offices, PSUs: TN CM Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has once again taken up with the Centre, his earlier demand for priority in appointment of native Tamils in Central Government Offices and its Public Sector Undertakings in the state. Writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Stalin said a memorandum had been submitted to the former last year, following that up with a letter flagging the matter to ensure adequate opportunities to the native Tamils. "I am sure, you would agree that adequate opportunities to people from all regions alone can ensure better service delivery besides regional representation and fulfill their aspiration to join in union government and Central Public Sector Undertakings at various levels. As you are aware, citizen centric administration, the sine qua non of good governance, requires free interface with public and only persons with familiarity in local language and culture fulfill it," he said. Further, Tamil Nadu has more human resources with comparatively higher knowledg

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday termed as a "danger", distortion of history and warned against falling for "imaginary stories" being floated by some as history. In his address at the 81st annual session of the Indian History Congress here, Stalin also stressed on the need for a government to remain secular. The Chief Minister said many wondered if studying history will ensure them a lucrative career but doing so is not just about getting a degree and salary. "We should study history to know ourself. Only those who have studied the past can create history in the present; can predict the future. Such history should be science-based fact. Some persons are talking about imaginary stories as history. One should not get fooled by believing them and they should not be accepted," he said. A knowledgeable society will not accept such theories, Stalin added. Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra speeches are creating tremors: Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday hailed senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' and said his speeches were creating tremors. Heaping praises on the country's first Prime Minister, the late Jawaharlal Nehru, Stalin said the country needs leaders like him and Mahatma Gandhi to uphold values like secularism and equality.
