MP CM expands cabinet, inducts 3 new members months ahead of assembly polls

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday expanded his cabinet by inducting three BJP MLAs as ministers just months ahead of the state assembly polls to be held by the end of the year. With this, there are now 34 members in the Chouhan-led cabinet. State Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath of office as ministers to three legislators at the Raj Bhavan here around 9 am. Former minister Rajendra Shukla, a Brahmin leader and four-time MLA from Rewa in the Vindh region, Gaurishankar Bisen, a seven-time legislator from Balaghat in the Mahakoshal region who is also the chairman of the MP Backward Class Commission and first-time MLA from Khargapur in Tikamgarh district of Bundelkhand region Rahul Lodhi took oath as ministers. While Shukla and Bisen took oath as cabinet ministers, Lodhi was sworn-in as minister of state. They are yet to be allotted portfolios, a Raj Bhavan official told PTI. Congress moves no-trust motion in MP Assembly; debate to continue today

The opposition Congress on Wednesday moved a no-confidence motion against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in Madhya Pradesh in the state Assembly, targeting it over issues such as corruption and atrocities against women and tribals. The debate, which saw several heated exchanges, will continue on Thursday. The discussion which started around 12.20 pm continued till late at night. The chief minister is likely to reply to the debate at 11 pm on Thursday. After the question hour, the Leader of Opposition Govind Singh moved the no-confidence motion. The motion was admitted by Speaker Girish Gautam. Opposition members targeted the BJP government over law and order, unemployment, inflation, corruption, 'discrimination' against the opposition legislators, atrocities against women and tribals, farmers' problems and other issues. Congress to bring no-confidence motion against BJP in MP Assembly session

The opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh will bring a no-confidence motion against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government during the winter session of the Assembly beginning Monday, a senior leader said. The five-day winter session will conclude on December 23, said the state Assembly's principal secretary AP Singh. MP Congress president Kamal Nath told MLAs at his residence on Sunday a no-confidence motion will be brought against the BJP government, "which has failed on every front", a party release said. The Congress had already submitted a notice to the Assembly secretariat to bring a no-confidence motion. In the 230-member House, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 127 MLAs and the Congress 96. Cong MLAs dump garlic outside MP Assembly for govt's apathy towards farmers

Congress legislators on Tuesday dumped loads of garlic at a gate of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on the opening day of the monsoon session, accusing the state BJP government of being apathetic towards farmers who were not getting adequate prices for their crops. Some videos had surfaced in the last few days on social media showing farmers throwing sacks full of garlic on roads and in rivers and drains in Madhya Pradesh, apparently after getting low prices for their produce. One of the farmers had claimed they were being offered just Re one per kg for their garlic produce.
