The Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association has decided that none of its member lawyers will fight the cases of farmers related to stubble burning citing environmental reasons. An official of the association said stubble burning not only creates pollution, but also causes the deaths of living organisms. President of the association advocate D K Jain said that in its executive committee meeting, discussion was held and concerns were expressed about the dangers posed to public life due to incidents of stubble burning across the country. Coal India's NCL plans to relocate Morwa township in MP for mining project

Coal India arm NCL is planning a huge rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) project and is working on relocating the residents from the township in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli, which has 600 million tonnes of mineable coal underneath, company's CMD B Sairam said. Talking to reporters here, Sairam said Morwa township in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, is spread across 927 hectares. The project, which is quite huge, will have its own share of challenges as it will involve relocation of the entire Morwa township of Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL). "The good thing is that in this acquisition, the people are ready to relocate. So half of the problem is solved because the first resistance comes from the people only," the chairman and managing director (CMD) said. Once people are ready, the only thing to decide is the rates of the compensation and the R&R benefits, he said. Five killed, 7 injured in two separate road accidents in Madhya Pradesh

Five persons were killed and seven others injured in two separate road accidents in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone and Morena districts, police said on Sunday. A sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a van collided near the PWD office in Khargone city at around 7 am on Sunday, Khargone Kotwali police station's sub-inspector Shriram Bhuria said. Two van occupants, identified as Ramlal (50) and Shobharam (49), died on the spot. Five others travelling in the van were injured, he said. The SUV had one occupant, he said. It carried a plate with 'SDM' (sub divisional magistrate) written on it along the vehicle's number plate. To a query on it, the police official said it would be known after an investigation as to whom the vehicle belongs. The monthly financial assistance being given to eligible women in Madhya Pradesh under the Ladli Bahna Yojana will gradually go up to Rs 5,000, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Saturday. No evidence of conspiracy in Bandhavgarh elephant deaths, says official

A high-level team sent by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) following the death of 10 elephants has not come across any conspiracy theory, one of its members said. The team comprising MP Minister of State for Forest Pradeep Ahirwar, Additional Chief Secretary Ashok Baranwal and head of Forest Force Aseem Shrivastava on Saturday visited the site inside the reserve where the jumbos died. Four wild elephants were found dead at Sankhani and Bakeli under the BTR's Khitoli range on October 29. Four more pachyderms died on October 30 and two the next day. According to wildlife expert Ajay Dubey, never before have 10 elephants died within a 72-hour period in the country. MP CM Yadav announces credit cards, financial aid for cow keepers

The Madhya Pradesh government will provide credit cards to those rearing cows and their progeny, similar to those available to farmers, to help manage the upkeep of cattle, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Saturday. Along with the people growing crops, credit cards will also be made available to those rearing cows and their progeny to enable them to manage expenses on their care, Yadav said during the state-level Govardhan Puja' ceremony at Ravindra Bhawan here. He said that people who care for more than 10 cows will be given special financial aid, adding that the state government will invest and make arrangements for rearing 5,000 to 10,000 cows under the limits of municipal Corporations. AQI deteriorates to 'severe' in India's cleanest city Indore after Diwali

The Air Quality Index in Indore, the country's cleanest city, breached the 400 mark on Friday, indicating that the air quality has reached the severe category in Madhya Pradesh's financial capital. According to the State Pollution Control Board data, the AQI in the city's Chhoti Gwaltoli area was pegged at 404 at noon, while the PM 2.5 (particulate matter) average was recorded at 255.26. The average level of PM 10 in the city was 318.08. Chhoti Gwaltoli is a densely populated area of the city that sees heavy vehicular movement.
