Maharashtra declares drought in 265 talukas, announces relief measures

The Maharashtra government on Saturday declared drought in 265 of its 358 talukas, or 74 per cent of the state, amid rainfall deficit and announced relief measures, including crop loan restructuring, land revenue concessions, and power bill subsidies. The government will announce financial assistance for crop losses after the prescribed procedure. According to a government resolution (GR) issued late on Friday, 265 talukas spread across 32 districts cover 74 per cent of the state. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday said it has suspended the licences of Cafe Mondegar, a popular restaurant, and three other food establishments in Mumbai after inspections found serious food safety and hygiene violations. The FDA inspected Cafe Mondegar at Metro House in Colaba on September 12 and found serious deficiencies in safety and hygiene, including failure to keep hot food above the prescribed 60 degrees Celsius and cold storage below 5 degrees Celsius, the regulator said in a release. Officials found improper thawing of food, inadequate rapid cooling of cooked food and sanitation and structural deficiencies at the restaurant that posed a risk of cross-contamination. 3 newborns die in fire at Amravati hospital, CM Fadnavis orders probe

Three newborns were killed when a fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a government hospital in Maharashtra's Amravati district early on Monday, officials said. The incident occurred at the district women's hospital, they said. A ventilator in the NICU on the third floor of the hospital suddenly sparked at 3.15 am, triggering a fire in the unit, an official said. Maha FDA suspends licenses of Radio Club, McDonald's outlet in south Mumbai

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of the Bombay Presidency Radio Club and a McDonald's outlet in south Mumbai along with 12 other food establishments across the state for alleged violations of food safety and hygiene norms, officials said on Friday. The FDA is in news since IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe took charge as its commissioner in May and launched a crackdown on food establishments found violating various laws and rules. In a recent special drive, it inspected 89 hotels, restaurants and dhabas across the state, and issued improvement notices to 71 establishments while suspending the licences of 13 food establishments, an official release said.
