IHG Hotels & Resorts inks pact for 200 key voco hotel in Maharashtra

IHG Hotels & Resorts on Monday said it has signed a management agreement with Discover Resorts Neral Pvt. Ltd. for a 200-key voco in Karjat, Maharashtra. The property will convert to IHG's premium brand by early 2028, the global hospitality company said in a statement. "voco is well suited to a destination like Karjat, where travellers are looking for a premium experience that feels distinctive, relaxed, and connected to the character of the place." said Sudeep Jain, IHG Hotels & Resorts Managing Director, South West Asia. IHG currently has 53 open hotels operating across seven brands in India and a strong pipeline of 110 hotels due to open in the next 3-5 years.

3 newborns die in fire at Amravati hospital, CM Fadnavis orders probe

Three newborns were killed when a fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a government hospital in Maharashtra's Amravati district early on Monday, officials said. The incident occurred at the district women's hospital, they said. A ventilator in the NICU on the third floor of the hospital suddenly sparked at 3.15 am, triggering a fire in the unit, an official said. After the blaze erupted, doctors, nurses and other staff on duty took the children out of the NICU. Three of the newborns died, the official said. Six infants have been admitted to a super speciality hospital, he added.

Maha FDA suspends licenses of Radio Club, McDonald's outlet in south Mumbai

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of the Bombay Presidency Radio Club and a McDonald's outlet in south Mumbai along with 12 other food establishments across the state for alleged violations of food safety and hygiene norms, officials said on Friday. The FDA is in news since IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe took charge as its commissioner in May and launched a crackdown on food establishments found violating various laws and rules. In a recent special drive, it inspected 89 hotels, restaurants and dhabas across the state, and issued improvement notices to 71 establishments while suspending the licences of 13 food establishments, an official release said. During an inspection carried out on August 19, Radio Club recorded a non-compliance rate of 47 per cent, and was asked to stop all purchase, sale and distribution of food during the suspension period, it said. The Maharashtra government has declared snakebite a notifiable disease, making it mandatory for all hospitals, medical colleges and healthcare professionals to report every suspected or confirmed case and death. The Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers' Federation has urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to raise the retirement age of government employees to 60 from the current 58, taking a cue from the Centre and 25 other states. In a letter to Fadnavis dated August 10, the federation said the Union government raised the retirement age of its employees to 60 years in 1998, and 25 states adopted the same policy subsequently. It welcomed the state government's recent decision to raise the retirement age of judicial officers serving in subordinate courts to 62 years in compliance with an interim order of the Supreme Court. The Maharashtra government has imposed a one-year ban on the manufacture and sale of "analogue" or non-dairy paneer in view of public health concerns and widespread violations of food safety norms, officials said on Wednesday. At least six persons were killed after a four-storey building collapsed in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi, officials said on Friday, adding that six to seven persons are still trapped under the rubble. A portion of the Kohinoor Building in Balaji Nagar area of the powerloom town in Thane district came crashing down around 11.30 pm on Thursday, the officials said. "At least six persons were killed. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has inspected canteens operating within the Bombay High Court premises, an official said on Friday.
