Eight killed in Maharashtra ordnance factory blast, rescue ops underway

A blast occurred at an ordnance factory in Maharashtra's Bhandara district on Friday morning, and rescue efforts are underway, an official said. Rescue and medical teams have been deployed for survivors at the scene, a defence spokesperson said. District collector Sanjay Kolte said the explosion occurred around 10.30 am on the premises. There is no information about any casualties as yet, the official said.

Signed 61 MoUs entailing investment of Rs 15.7 trn at Davos: Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said 61 MoUs have been signed during his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos entailing investment of Rs 15.70 lakh crore and having the potential to provide 16 lakh jobs in the state. The annual five-day meeting of the WEF is underway in Davos, Switzerland from January 20. CM Fadnavis is attending the meeting with a state delegation. Interacting with reporters via Zoom link from Davos, he said seven of these MoUs were strategic partnerships for knowledge in mobility and education and not investment. All the MoUs have 98 percent FDI component in the field of infrastructure, green energy, electronics, IT, steel, defence, textiles ,solar, biotechnology, pharma, among others, the CM added. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday targeted the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government, saying that of the 29 investment MoUs signed on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, only one company is from outside India. Paras Defence inks pact for Rs 12,000 cr optics park in Maharashtra by 2035

Paras Defence on Thursday said it is planning to invest Rs 12,000 crore to set up the country's first optics park in Maharashtra and signed an initial pact with the state government at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos. The project is expected to commence in 2028 and will continue till 2035 to ensure scalability and flexibility. Investment MOUs worth Rs 16 trillion signed in Davos, says CM Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said his state has signed MOUs worth nearly Rs 16 lakh crore in Davos during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. The chief minister said these MOUs have been signed across various sectors and would help the state in achieving its goal of taking its GDP to USD 1 trillion. For India to become USD 5 trillion economy, Maharashtra has to become USD 1 trillion economy and we will achieve that target by 2030, Fadnavis told PTI in an interview here. Mumbai hoarding collapse: Court refuses bail to accused businessman

A Mumbai court on Wednesday denied bail to businessman Arshad Khan, a key accused in the case pertaining to the collapse of a giant hoarding at suburban Ghatkopar that claimed 17 lives in May last year. Khan was on the run for nearly seven months and arrested from Lucknow in late December. The 42-year-old businessman's bail application was rejected by Additional Sessions Judge Sachin Pawar. A detailed court order was not available yet. In his plea, the businessman had said he was not even named in the FIR and subsequently falsely implicated in the case. Maha transport authority to meet after 30 months, may clear MSRTC fare hike

The State Transport Authority in Maharashtra will meet after a long hiatus of 30 months Thursday and may approve the MSRTC's proposal to hike the passenger fare by 14 to 15 per cent, officials said. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation had sought the hike in fare under an automatic fare revision formula (AFRF) to mitigate the daily loss of Rs 2 to 3 crore. This proposal was sent to STA for approval last year. Buses operated by MSRTC travel across the length and breadth of Maharashtra with over 55 lakh passengers travelling daily. The 15,000-bus fleet being operated by MSRTC is considered the largest in India. An official said on Wednesday that the STA, chaired by the state transport secretary, had approved a 17.17 per cent fare hike for MSRTC-operated buses under the AFRF in its last meeting in 2022, following which the existing fare structure came into force on October 26 that year. At least 12 dead as passengers fleeing fire rumour hit by train in Jalgaon

At least 10 train passengers were killed after stepping down due to a rumour of fire and being run over by another train passing on the adjacent tracks in North Maharashtra's Jalgaon district on Wednesday evening, officials said. While Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan said 10-12 persons were killed as per the district collector, Union minister Raksha Khadse, who hails from the district, said the death toll could be as high as 40 according to her information. Blue Energy to invest Rs 3,500 cr to set up Maharashtra electric truck unit

LNG-powered truck maker Blue Energy Motors on Wednesday said it plans to invest Rs 3,500-crore for setting up an electric trucks production plant in Maharashtra to fuel the state's green energy transition. Under the terms of an initial pact, announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Blue Energy Motors will establish a dedicated facility for advanced electric (EV) trucks that will house advanced R&D capabilities, battery-pack line, motor manufacturing unit and set up charging stations as well, the company said.
