Congress takes dig at PM Modi over deaths due to Covid-19 vaccines

The Congress on Wednesday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "shrugging away" from its responsibility, a day after the government told the Supreme Court that it cannot be held liable to compensate for the deaths post administration of Covid vaccines. "First: No deaths due to oxygen shortage. Then: No aid to Covid victims. Now: No accountability for vaccine-related deaths. "Prime Minister Modi really knows how to shrug away responsibility. A true event manager!" the Congress said on its Twitter handle. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also took a dig, saying this government is never responsible for anything. "If there is death due to the side effects of Covid vaccine anywhere in the country, then the government is not responsible for it people are getting it as per their wish. This is Modi government's affidavit in the Supreme Court. (Well this government is never responsible for anything)," she said in a tweet in Hindi. In another tweet, she said, "Thank you M

Kharge hits at Modi govt for stopping scholarships for minority students

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday asked the Modi government what will it gain by "snatching away" the money from poor students, a day after it stopped scholarships for minority students of classes 1 to 8. On Tuesday, the government limited its pre-matric scholarship scheme meant for minority communities to students of classes 9 and 10, stating that the Right to Education Act covers compulsory education up to class 8 for all students. Earlier, the pre-matric scholarship used to cover education for grades 1 to 8 as well as for students belonging to minority communities. SC and ST students are covered from classes 9 and 10 only on a full-time basis under the pre-matric scholarship scheme. "Narendra Modi ji, your Government has shut down Pre- Matric Scholarship meant for SC, ST, OBC and Minority students of Class 1 to Class 8. What is the point of depriving scholarships to poor students? How much will your Government earn or save by snatching this money from poor ...

PM Modi is 'swayamsevak', but RSS does not control anyone: Mohan Bhagwat

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been its volunteer, the Sangh does not control any person or organisation that is doing independent work. Bhagwat was speaking at an interaction with prominent members of the local community here. "When the Sangh's name comes up, people think of Modi ji. Modi ji is our 'swayamsevak' (volunteer)...," he said. People also think of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) when somebody talks about the RSS, and there are swayamsevaks in that organization too and their thinking is similar, he added. "But these all are not the Sangh. They are doing their own work, the Sangh is doing its own independent work," he added. While the RSS and such organizations and persons (who have been RSS volunteers) have a connection, and sometimes the Sangh helps them for a good cause, "there is no control; there is neither direct control nor indirect control (over them)...," Bhagwat stressed. The RSS .

Families of ones who died in farmer protests yet to be compensated: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said even though over 700 farmers died during the stir against the now-repealed agri laws, their families are yet to get any compensation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "reverence is only for his 2-3 friends". "733 farmers were martyred. 'Mafiveer' had to bow before the power of Satyagrah. But, the intentions did not change! "It has been one year since the black laws were withdrawn, but neither the family of any farmer who died got compensation nor any step was taken to help the farmers. Because, PM's reverence is only for his 2-3 friends," Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi. Congress general secretary communications, Jairam Ramesh also said the Bharat Jodo Yatra marked this day by paying tributes to the farmers who died during the agitation. "Today's the 1st anniversary of PM's announcement that the three black farm laws were being withdrawn.
