PM Modi to inaugurate Navi Mumbai airport, Metro line; launch mobility app

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate phase one of the Navi Mumbai International Airport and the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3 during his two-day Maharashtra visit beginning Wednesday. Modi will also launch Mumbai One, India's first integrated common mobility app for 11 public transport operators, an official release said. After reaching Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, PM Modi will undertake a walkthrough of the newly-built Navi Mumbai International Airport, it said. He will inaugurate the airport and also launch and dedicate various projects in Mumbai. He will also address a public gathering on the occasion. Phase one of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has been built at a cost of Rs 19,650 crore, the release said. It is India's largest greenfield airport project, developed under the PublicPrivate Partnership (PPP) model. Driver of Puja Khedkar's father arrested in Navi Mumbai road rage case

The Navi Mumbai police have arrested the driver of former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar's father in connection with the road rage incident in which a truck driver was abducted last week, a senior official said on Saturday. Puja Khedkar's father, Dilip Khedkar, who is also wanted in the case, is still absconding, police said. According to the police, the incident occurred on September 13 on the Mulund-Airoli Road in Navi Mumbai after a concrete mixer truck driven by Prahlad Kumar (22) brushed against a Land Cruiser car, leading to an argument between him and two occupants of the four-wheeler. The investigation revealed that Dilip Khedkar and his driver, Praful Salunkhe, bundled Kumar into the SUV and took him to the Khedkar bungalow in Pune. Maharashtra town planning authority, CIDCO, on Thursday said a comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) will be formulated for the transit development of Navi Mumbai and the international airport influence notified area (NAINA). Office demand in Navi Mumbai rises 40% in 2024, to grow further: CRE Matrix

Demand for premium office spaces in Navi Mumbai rose 40 per cent in 2024 to 5.8 million square feet, and the leasing activities are expected to increase further on affordable rent, according to CRE Matrix. Real estate data analytics firm CRE Matrix Co-founder and CEO Abhishek Kiran Gupta noted, "Navi Mumbai is one of the most affordable office markets across major 7-8 cities, with a weighted average rental of around Rs 65 per square feet." He said the demand has been rising in the key office micro-markets of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). In the first six months of this calendar year, he said the gross leasing of office space in Navi Mumbai exceeded by nearly 0.8 million (8 lakh) square feet. Maharashtra logs 13 new Covid-19 cases, one fatality; tally hits 2,462

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 13 new cases of COVID-19, which took the tally of infections to 2,462, and one death, the health department said. A 65-year-old woman suffering from comorbidities, including rheumatoid arthritis, died in Kolhapur, an official said. Since January 1, the state has recorded 2,462 COVID-19 cases and 37 deaths, the department said. Of the fresh cases, five were reported from Pimpri Chinchwad, three from Nagpur, two from Pune and one each from Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Satara, an official statement said. The health department has conducted 28,486 COVID-19 tests across the state since January 1, and 2,277 patients have recovered from the infection till date, it said. Mumbai has reported 980 cases, including 539 in June alone, so far this year. At least 37 patients have succumbed to the virus in the state since January 1, of whom 36 had comorbidities (pre-existing health conditions that can increase the risk of severe illness), the statement said.

527 buildings in Navi Mumbai deemed dangerous; audit must for 30-year-olds

As many as 527 buildings in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) limits have been identified as "dangerous" during a survey for 2024-25, the civic body has said. It is mandatory for buildings in use for more than 30 years to undergo a structural audit by a civil or structural engineer registered with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the NMMC said in a release issued on Wednesday. "A survey of dangerous buildings under the municipal limits for the year 2024-25 has identified 527 buildings as dangerous" under provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, it said. The occupants have been advised to vacate such premises immediately, the release said. The civic body has appealed to the residents, owners and institutions to get the structural audits of such buildings conducted and submit the report to the respective assistant civic commissioner or the assistant director of urban planning by September 30. Five Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Navi Mumbai for staying illegally

Five Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested from a locality in Navi Mumbai for allegedly staying in the country without valid documents, police said on Tuesday. A team from the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Navi Mumbai Police raided a premises at Karanjade in Panvel on Sunday morning and found six Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, living there, a police spokesperson said. He said five were taken into custody after preliminary verification of their immigration status. "Three of the accused overstayed in India even after their visas had expired, while the other two had entered the country illegally without any valid travel documents or permissions," the official said. He said investigations revealed that the accused had managed to fraudulently acquire Indian identity documents, including Aadhaar and PAN cards and voter IDs.
