Jaishankar briefs Parliamentary consultative committee on G20 presidency

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday briefed the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on India's G20 Presidency and the Leaders' Summit held here in September. Jaishankar said the members of the Consultative Committee were unanimous in their appreciation of the success of India's G20 Presidency. "Glad to note the unanimous appreciation on its unqualified success. And the positive impact of the Jan Bhagidari approach," the External Affairs Minister said on X. House panel to hear Bidhuri on Oct 10 on row involving remarks against Ali

The Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha will hold its meeting on a row involving BJP member Ramesh Bidhuri's use of objectionable remarks against BSP's Danish Ali on October 10, during which the MP from the ruling party will give oral evidence to the panel. "Oral evidence of Ramesh Bidhuri, MP, in respect of complaints received from various Members of Parliament against him and Kunwar Danish Ali, MP, for alleged improper conduct during the discussion on 'Chandrayaan-3 Mission' in the House," the agenda of the meeting read. The issue polarised political parties as a number of opposition leaders in the Lok Sabha wrote to Speaker Om Birla seeking action against Bidhuri, while several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members accused Ali of making disparaging comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his "running commentary" when Bidhuri, the MP from South Delhi, was speaking. Parl panel hears experts on bills to replace IPC, CrPC, Evidence Act

A parliamentary panel on Tuesday interacted with a group of experts to seek their views on the three bills which seek to replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Evidence Act. The Standing Committee on Home plans clause-wise deliberations on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Sakshya Bill (BS), and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita over the next two days. In its meeting on Tuesday, the panel heard Priyank Kanoongo, chairperson of the National Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (NCPCR), and other experts. While introducing the bills in the Lok Sabha during the Monsoon session, Home Minister Amit Shah had urged the Chair to refer the three bills to the standing committee for wider consultation and discussion. In August, the committee was given three months to examine the three bills which form the backbone of Indian criminal jurisprudence.

FinMin seeks expenditure proposals for supplementary demands for grants

Ahead of the winter session of Parliament, the finance ministry has sought expenditure proposals for the first batch of supplementary demands for grants from various ministries and departments. The first batch of supplementary demands for grants for 2023-24 is proposed to be placed before Parliament in the ensuing session, the ministry said in an office memorandum. The month-long winter session of Parliament usually begins in the last week of November. The cases that would be eligible to be incorporated under such demands include those where advances from the contingency fund of India have been granted. Besides, payments against court decree would be included as well as cases where the finance ministry has specifically advised moving of the supplementary demand in the winter session, it said. Dhankhar signs Women's Quota Bill; to be placed before Murmu for assent

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday signed the women's reservation bill as passed by Parliament before it is presented to President Droupadi Murmu for her assent. The Congress on Saturday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the architecture of the new Parliament building alleging that it has killed democracy and conversations, a charge the BJP said is an insult to aspirations of 140 crore Indians.
