Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday demanded that the women's reservation bill be implemented immediately and alleged that the government does not want to do this while distracting from the demand for caste census. The Women's reservation bill is a good thing, but two "footnotes" of census and delimitation have been attached, Gandhi told a press conference here a day after the women's reservation bill was passed by Parliament. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said the women's reservation bill has been welcomed by everyone but is incomplete without OBC reservation and the caste census. Speaking to reporters after a programme here, Gehlot said the bill has been brought for political gain with an eye on upcoming elections under the pressure of the opposition. "If they (Centre) wanted, they could have done it nine years ago because they had full majority. If you have majority then the work becomes easy. Even then they did not do it. Now elections are also coming. It is understood that if the opposition (India alliance) is raising the issue of caste census, then caste census is also important," Gehlot said. The Government of India itself should come forward and do what Sonia Gandhi and many opposition parties felt that you should give reservation to SC/ST/OBC. Make reservation for them also in the 33 percent reservation for women. Then only, all castes, all classes will get a chance to come .
The Ni-kshay adoption model cannot be considered as the mainstay in eradicating TB by 2025, a parliamentary committee said. In its 149th report tabled in Parliament, the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare expressed its concerns over a sense of complacency within the ministry and the government organisation responsible for implementing the TB elimination programme. The report said the shifting of responsibility to non-governmental organisations "eventually may impede the overall progress" of TB eradication. The committee suggested that the government establish a robust selection process for Ni-kshay Mitra and implement effective monitoring mechanisms to ensure their diligent fulfilment of responsibilities. Under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Ni-kshay Mitra initiative) implemented by the Health Ministry, community support is provided to TB patients through the Ni-kshay 2.0 portal on which TB patients can be adopted and cared
