The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Tuesday cautioned people against "traps" of "opportunist politicians" and said "we cannot trivialise" the sacrifice of security personnel by resorting to "hate campaigns". The party also appealed the civil society and youth to expose and oppose the "nefarious designs" of divisive forces that are trying to create communal divide for political motives. "We cannot trivialise the supreme sacrifice of our valiant jawans by resorting to hate campaigns and communal violence," JKNPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh said at a youth convention in Udhampur district. He said people "need to unite to face the onslaught of the enemy rather than falling in the trap of opportunist politicians". "We have to give the message of united India. We need to stand by the nation and express solidarity with the bravehearts," Singh said.
Union minister Jitendra Singh said Tuesday that the war against terrorism has to be fought unitedly. Singh said even in the most developed democracies like the United States, all the political parties and groups affiliated to different ideologies come together when faced with a terror threat. The health of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was fluctuating due to the nature of his ailment but he would continue working for the good of the state till he is alive, Assembly Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo said Tuesday. Parrikar, 63 is suffering from a pancreatic ailment and is currently recuperating at his private residence near here. "His health sometimes improves and sometimes it goes down. Because of the pancreatic ailment he is suffering from, you cannot be stable all the time," Lobo said. "CM Parrikar is one person who will never want to rest. Till he is alive, I don't think he'll leave the chair or stop working for the people of Goa," Lobo claimed. The BJP MLA added that as long as Parrikar can give instructions to his officials (in the administration), the government in the coastal state will continue.
The Union Cabinet Tuesday approved one post of secretary and one post of joint secretary in the newly established department of fisheries. "The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved one post of secretary in the level 17 (Rs 2,25,000 fixed) and one post of Joint Secretary in the level 14 of the pay matrix (Rs 1,44,200-2,18,200) in the Department of Fisheries on permanent basis..." an official statement said. These posts have been approved to ensure smooth functioning and fulfil the mandate of the newly created department. "Newly created posts would enable the Department of Fisheries to undertake/monitor number of projects/schemes for the development of the sector, the welfare and protection of the interest of the large number of fishermen," it added. In this year's Budget, the government proposed to create a separate department of fisheries to provide sustained and focused attention towards development of this sector.
Instead of giving proof of their involvement in the Pulwama attack, India will give a befitting reply to Pakistan, chief of J&K BJP Ravinder Raina Tuesday said. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader accused Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan of "shedding crocodile tears" over the deaths of 40 CRPF men who died in the attack carried out by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). Pakistan army Tuesday violated ceasefire by resorting to firing on forward posts along Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, a defence official said. "Pakistani army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along LoC by firing of small arms in Nowshera Sector in district Rajouri at about 1900 hours", PRO Defence said, adding Indian Army is retaliating effectively. Despite repeated calls at Indo-Pak flag meetings for restraint and adherence to the ceasefire understanding of 2003 for maintaining peace and tranquility, Pakistan continues to violate the ceasefire, officials said. Since the beginning of the new year, Pakistani troops have been regularly violating the ceasefire, especially along the LoC in Jammu division.
