Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani Thursday said peace is imperative for his war-torn country but there is no breakthrough yet with respect to Taliban and withdrawal of US troops. He also lashed out at Pakistan for supporting terror activities in Afghanistan and for failing to deliver on its promises. He added that Pakistan would continue to remain "a poor country" if it continues in the current form. Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual summit here, Ghani said Pakistan should come out of its trauma of birth as that would be good for the entire South Asian region, including Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. While stressing that it is imperative that the war that has gone on for so many years must come to an end, he said that given the complexities it is difficult to arrive at a date when the conflict would end. The Afghan President was responding to reports that some deal has been reached with Taliban for withdrawal of the US troops from the country. He said there

Addressing a press conference, Union minister Manoj Sinha said loan waiver promised by Gandhi is a "fraud" and a conspiracy to garner votes. Asked whether the NDA government has any plans to waive farm loans across the country, Sinha said, "We do not support the policy that the central government should waive debts of farmers countrywide. "We have been working to boost their income so that they could contribute more to the country's economy and themselves become economically strong to face challenges." Sinha said the country's farmers have come to know about the fraud committed in the name of loan waiver by "Rahul Gandhi and company" and that they staged a demonstration against the Congress president in Amethi. "The Congress's falsehood has been exposed. In the Congress-ruled states, ..
DR Congo's new President Felix Tshisekedi fell ill briefly as he was delivering his inauguration speech on Thursday following the country's first peaceful handover of power. Tshisekedi, 55, returned to the microphone after 12 minutes, saying: "A famous president of our country said in his time: 'understand my emotion'." He was quoting the late dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, who said those words in 1990 as he was announcing the end of single-party rule in the vast central African country. "The campaign we had to run... got the better of me," Tshisekedi added, apologising for the interruption as his predecessor Joseph Kabila looked on impassively through his trademark dark glasses. State television had interrupted its live broadcast of the historic event after Tshisekedi said, "I don't feel well", and sat down as family members came to his side. During the ceremony, Tshisekedi received the national flag and a copy of the constitution from Kabila, who is stepping aside after 18 years at the .
The Centre's decision to grant more power and funds to 10 autonomous councils in the Northeastern region failed to satisfy political parties of Tripura, except the ruling BJP. Even the Indigenous People's front of Tripura (IPFT), the sole ally of the saffron party in the state, said the Centre's move would not be able to fulfil the aspiration of the tribal people of the state. Aiming to woo the tribal population in the Northeast ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Union Cabinet Wednesday approved constitutional amendments to increase the powers of the autonomous councils in the Sixth Schedule areas of the Northeast. While the BJP termed the decision 'historic', the main opposition CPI(M) said there is nothing new in the proposed amendment. "We have long been demanding a separate Twipraland for the tribals. We think a separate state by carving out the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council can only solve our problems," IPFT spokesperson Mangal Debbarma ...

"There's been a lot of anticipatory work done but we're miles and miles from getting a resolution and that shouldn't be too surprising," Ross told CNBC. Wall Street futures suddenly fell during his remarks, which came a day after the White House had moved to rebut media reports that the China trade talks had hit serious obstacles. While much work remained to be done, Ross added there was still "a fair chance" of reaching a deal, while noting that the dispute involved issues that were difficult to address in a short timeframe. "I believe china would like to make a deal. I believe we would like to make a deal but it has to be a deal that works for both parties," he said. "I'm ..
