Maha Cong, NCP demand PM's apology on Sadhvi's remark; BJP

The Congress and NCP in Maharashtra Friday sought an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur's remark that slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare died in a terrorist attack because she had "cursed" him. The state unit of the BJP distanced itself from Thakur's remark, saying it considers all those who were killed in the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack as martyrs. Terming Thakur a "terrorist", NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said the BJP's decision to give her a ticket underscored its "pretence" of fighting terrorism. Malik, who addressed the media along with state Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant here, alleged that the remarks made by Thakur, who is in the fray from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, came from the "script" provided by the BJP. Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil said both the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena should be "ashamed" of her statement. Iraq parliament to host regional rivals in Baghdad

Iraq will host senior officials from neighbouring countries including regional arch-rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran on Saturday, as it carves out a role as a mediator in the deeply divided region. The one-day summit will bring together parliament heads from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, and Kuwait, a parliamentary spokesman told AFP. Iran, one of Iraq's closest allies but a fierce foe of Saudi Arabia, will be represented by a "senior official," the spokesman said. The conference will be hosted by Iraq's youngest-ever speaker of parliament Mohammed al-Halbusi, 38, who said Friday Iraq was "honoured by the presence of its neighbours in Baghdad." Hours earlier, he had welcomed Syria's parliament chief Hammudeh Sabbagh, who landed in the Iraqi capital on Thursday night with a large delegation. Iraq has long been at the centre of a struggle for influence between regional and international powers, notably neighbouring Iran and the United States. But more recently, Baghdad has sought to .

After quitting all posts in the party, Chaturvedi had sent her resignation to Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders. If Indiraji is credited for 1971 Bangladesh war, why not Modi

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi deserves the credit for the country's air strike inside Pakistan just as Indira Gandhi was honoured for the success in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Singh, a BJP stalwart, hit out at the Congress for seeking evidence of the outcome of the Balakot air strike by Indian Air Force and said the BJP-led government has been able to effectively isolate Pakistan for sheltering terror elements. He recounted that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was a leader of the Jan Sangh, the former avtar of BJP, had complimented Indira Gandhi for the success in the Bangladesh Liberation war and had said the party would not hesitate to accord its fullest cooperation to Indira Gandhi. "Now, what is wrong in praising Modiji if he gave a fitting reply to Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attack ?" Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit Friday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vikramaditya Singh and Waqar Rasool for violation of model code of conduct on the day of voting in Udhampur Lok Sabha seat. The BJP on Friday said the Congress gave casteism and dynasty politics to the country and it has become a cause of embarrassment to the party. "The Congress gave 'Jatiwad aur Parivarwad' (casteism and dynasty politics) to the county and today it is the cause of embarrassment and dishonour to the party itself," BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said. Former BJP leader, Sinha had recently joined the Congress. "Other leaders of the grand alliance also did not consider Gandhi as a PM candidate but this is for the first time when Congress' star campaigner himself is not seeing prime ministerial material in Rahul Gandhi.
