Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday asked officials to expedite the implementation of projects announced in his government's budget. According to an official statement, he said his government is going to complete one year in office on December 15. All land allotments and tender process announced in the budget should be completed and preparations for the foundation stone laying made by that period, he said. Sharma presided over a division level meeting held in Bharatpur Collectorate Auditorium. Sharma said public servants should perform their duties with full devotion and dedication, keeping the spirit of public service paramount. He directed officials to complete the initiatives announced in the budget on priority. Sharma also reviewed the district-wise progress of development works of various departments and the law and order situation in the state.
A leopard was beaten to death by villagers after it attacked a 55-year-old man in Udaipur district of Rajasthan on Friday, police said. The incident occurred in Sayra area in the early hours when the leopard attacked Devaram's cattle outside his house, they said. According to police, when he opened the gate to check on the cattle, the leopard attacked him, leaving him injured. Hearing his cries for help, the villagers quickly gathered and surrounded the area where the leopard was hiding. They started hitting the animal with sticks and other objects, leading to its death on the spot, police said. The injured is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, they added. The area is located about 25 km from where forest and police teams have been searching for a man-eater leopard over the past several days. In a development that could land former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot in trouble, his ex-OSD Lokesh Sharma has held him responsible for phone tapping during the political crisis in the state in 2020. He said Gehlot should be interrogated in this regard. Delhi Police questioned Sharma on Wednesday in connection with the phone-tapping case lodged on a complaint by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. After the questioning, Sharma said he submitted a seven-page written statement, describing the sequence of events on July 16, 2020, when he got a pen drive containing call recordings from the then CM for circulating them to the media. State-owned THDCIL has signed an agreement with the Rajasthan government to set up 1,600 MW of pumped storage projects at an investment of Rs 8,800 crore. The Memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims for the development of two pumped storage projects (PSPs) of 800 MW each at Bisanpura in Bundi and another at Rampura Tonk, THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) said in a statement. A total of 1,600 MW capacity of PSPs will involve an investment of Rs 8,800 crore, THDCIL CMD R K Vishnoi said. "The Bisanpura PSP will source water from the Gudha Dam, while the Rampura PSP will utilize water from the existing Bisalpur reservoir. This strategic approach ensures a reliable supply while minimizing environmental impact, allowing both projects to contribute significantly to sustainable energy solutions through efficient energy storage, thereby enhancing grid stability," he said. About 97.7 per cent of all cases of atrocities against SCs in 2022 were reported from 13 states, with Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh recording the highest number of such crimes, according to a new government report. According to the latest government report under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the majority of atrocities against Scheduled Tribes (STs) were also concentrated in 13 states, which reported 98.91 per cent of all cases in 2022. Of 51,656 cases registered under the law for Scheduled Castes (SCs) in 2022, Uttar Pradesh accounted for 23.78 per cent of the total cases with 12,287, followed by Rajasthan at 8,651 (16.75 per cent) and Madhya Pradesh at 7,732 (14.97 per cent). The government has approved a joint venture between NPCIL and NTPC to build four 700 MWe nuclear power plants at Mahi Banswara in Rajasthan. The Department of Atomic Energy handed over the document approving the joint venture 'Anushakti Vidyut Nigam Limited (ASHVINI)'? to top officials of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Tuesday, an official statement said. With this approval, ASHVINI has been authorized to build, own and operate nuclear power plants in India in accordance with the existing legal framework, the statement from NPCIL said. It said ASHVINI will be a subsidiary of NPCIL, which will have 51 per cent stake in the entity.
