India sourced military hardware worth ₹1.20 trillion in 2024-25: Rajnath

India procured military hardware and weapons worth Rs 1,20,000 crore from domestic sources by end of 2024-25 as it is increasingly focusing on boosting self-reliance to confront national security challenges, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday. In an address at an event, Singh said the government is fully aware of the changing dynamics of battle field, especially the importance of non-contact warfare such as use of drones, and preparing for it accordingly. In this context, he underlined the importance of enhancing India's own defence industries to meet myriad security challenges. "In 2021-22, our capital acquisition from domestic sources was around Rs 74,000 crore, but by the end of 2024-25, the capital acquisition from domestic sources has increased to approximately Rs 1,20,000 crore," he said. "This change is not just about data, but also about mindset," he said. The defence minister said the Modi government has taken several policy initiatives in the last 10 years to

Jains form tiny population but contribute 24% of tax revenues: Rajnath

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that although the Jain community constitutes just 0.5 per cent of India's total population, their tax contributions account for 24 per cent of total tax collections. Addressing the inaugural session of JITO (Jain International Trade Organisation) Connect 2025, a three-day event here, Singh said the Jain community is regarded as a hard-working and prosperous society in the world. He also said the Jain community's philosophy is deeply rooted in Indian culture, and its history is an invaluable lesson in the spiritual and cultural journey of India. "The share of the Jain community in the Indian economy is remarkable. Their population is 0.5 per cent. But in total tax collection, approximately 24 per cent comes from them," Singh said. He further said that whether it is the pharma, aviation or education sector, Jains are leading the way. From toys to tanks, India is making everything. The day is not far when India will emerge as the factory

MiG-21 gave India many proud moments in military aviation journey: Rajnath

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said MiG 21 is not only an aircraft or a machine but a testimony to the deep ties between India and Russia. Singh was addressing a gathering on the occasion of the decommissioning ceremony of the Russian-origin MiG-21 at the Chandigarh Air Force Station here. The iconic Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 fighter jets, which have been the backbone of Indian Air Force's combat fleet for over six decades, flew for the last time in Indian skies here on Friday, bringing the curtain down on a 62-year-long journey. The legendary MiG-21 fighter jets have been part of the IAF's combat fleet since the 1960s. Remembering the valour of the armed forces, Singh said the MiG 21 has a big contribution in their journey of bravery. "We gathered here for the final operational sortie of MiG 21. Being amongst you, I have emotions of pride and gratitude," Singh said. "When we are today giving a send-off to MiG 21 from its operational journey, I feel that we are giving a .

India showed how strong our retaliation can be: Rajnath on Op Sindoor

In carrying out Operation Sindoor following the dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam, India showed its enemy how strong the country's retaliation can be, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday. Operation Sindoor not suspended due to intervention of anyone: Rajnath

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday virtually rejected US President Donald Trump's claims of intervening to stop the Indo-Pak conflict following Operation Sindoor, saying the action against terrorists was not suspended due to any third-party mediation. Speaking at the 'Hyderabad Liberation Day' celebrations organised by the union government here, he said 'Operation Sindoor' would resume if any terrorist attack took place in the future. "There are some people who ask whether the ceasefire between India and Pakistan happened because of the intervention of someone. I would like to make it clear. The operation against terrorists was not suspended because of someone's intervention," he said. "Some claim to have stopped the operation between India and Pakistan. Nobody stopped it. I would like to clarify that Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who is Pakistan's Deputy PM and foreign minister, also made it clear that India rejected third-party role in the conflict," he said.
