An investment of over Rs 3 lakh crore is needed every year in the renewable energy sector to take India's installed green capacity to 440 gigawatt, Icra experts said on Friday. "We expect India to have 440 gigawatt installed capacity of renewable energy by 2030," Vikram V, Vice President & Co-Group Head - Corporate Ratings, ICRA Ltd said at a media roundtable. State-run hydro power giant NHPC has bagged a 200 MW solar project which will be set up at Gujarat State Electricity Corporation's 1,125 MW renewable energy park at Khavda, in Gujarat. The e-reverse auction for the project was conducted by GUVNL (Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam) on March 2, 2024 and the Letter of Intent was issued on March 14, 2024, a company statement said. The project was secured at a tariff of Rs 2.66 per unit and will be completed in a period of 18 months. The project will generate about 473 million units in the first year of commissioning and the cumulative generation from the project over a period of 25 years would be about 10,850 million units. The NHPC will develop the project on a build-own-and-operate basis at a tentative development cost of about Rs 847 crore.

JSW Renew Energy has commissioned the first phase of 51 MW capacity of its 810 MW wind energy project in Tamil Nadu, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. The project has a power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for 25 years, the statement said. JSW Renew Energy Ltd, a wholly owned step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy, has started phase-wise commissioning of the 810 MW (Inter State Transmission System) ISTS-connected wind power project awarded under SECI tranche IX in Tamil Nadu with commissioning of the first phase of 51 MW, as per the statement. With this, the total current installed capacity has gone up to 6,822 MW while the under-construction capacity stands at 2,969 MW, which is likely to be commissioned in phases over the next 12 months, it said. Renewable energy services firm BluPine Energy has tied up a Rs 511 crore green loan for its 120 MW solar project in Gujarat. The green loan financing for the project has been secured through leading global banking institution Standard Chartered, a company statement said. "With a green loan valued at Rs 511 crore (USD 62 million), this visionary project not only contributes to India's ambitious clean energy goals but also highlights our unwavering dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility," Sanjeev Bhatia, CFO of BluPine Energy, said in the statement. India will add another 38 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity by March 2025 to touch 170 GW-mark, aided by moderation in solar module prices, an Icra analyst said on Thursday. The country's installed renewable energy capacity was at 130 GW as of October 2023, Vikram V, Vice President & Sector Head - Corporate Ratings, Icra, said in a webinar. Indian Renewable Energy (RE) capacity is expected to reach 170 GW by March 2025, led by strong policy support and moderation in solar module prices, he said. The capacity addition thereafter is likely to be supported by the significant improvement in tendering activity in the current fiscal with over 16 GW projects bid out so far and another 17 GW bids underway by the central nodal agencies, Vikram said. Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has bagged a 200 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project from SJVN Ltd. FDRE provides round-the-clock power supply and supports the discoms in meeting renewable purchase obligation (RPO) and energy storage obligation (ESO), Tata Power said in a regulatory filing. The company said its subsidiary, "Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has received a Letter of Award (LOA) for developing the 200 MW FDRE project with SJVN Ltd (SJVN)," the company said. The company, however, did not disclose the financial details of the order.
