India will always maintain its freedom of choice and will always be a voice of the Global South, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday, asserting that the nation remains determined to protect its people and secure their interests at home and abroad. Addressing world leaders from the iconic podium of the UN General Assembly, Jaishankar highlighted the three key concepts of Atmanirbharta' or self-reliance, Atmaraksha' or securing oneself and 'Atmavishwas' or self-confidence that guide India's approach in the contemporary world. Jaishankar began his address to the General Debate at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly with the salutation Namaskar from the people of Bharat". Jaishankar slams Pak at UNGA, calls it 'epicentre of global terrorism'

India has confronted the challenge of terrorism since independence, with a neighbour that is an epicentre of global terrorism, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday, in a sharp attack on Pakistan. In his address to the General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Jaishankar said that the most recent example of Pakistan's cross-border barbarism was the Pahalgam attack. Jaishankar began his address to world leaders from the UNGA podium with the salutation Namaskar from the people of Bharat. He said that for decades now, major international terrorist attacks have been traced back to that one country, a clear reference to Pakistan. Brics must defend multilateral trading amid tariff volatility: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has called on BRICS to defend the multilateral trading system amid increasing protectionism and tariff volatility during a meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers here on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. When multilateralism is under stress, BRICS has stood firm as a strong voice of reason and constructive change, Jaishankar said in a social media post. In a turbulent world, BRICS must reinforce the message of peacebuilding, dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to international law, he said. As rising protectionism, tariff volatility and non-tariff barriers impact trade flows, BRICS must defend the multilateral trading system, he said. Jaishankar's remarks come weeks after the US slapped 50 per cent tariffs on India, including an additional 25 per cent penalty for its purchase of Russian oil, among the highest in the world. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said that terrorism remains a "persistent threat" to development and stressed that the world must show neither tolerance nor accommodation to terrorist activities. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for bilateral discussions, as the high-level 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) kicks in. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has met with his Philippine counterpart Tess Lazaro here and discussed bilateral cooperation in the UN and the Indo-Pacific region.
