Global Capacity Centres to expand to $105 bn by 2030: Labour secy Dawra

Union Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra on Tuesday said that global capability centres (GCC) are projected to expand to USD 105 billion by 2030, employing over 2.8 million people solidifying India's role as a global hub for enterprise operations and innovation. During a visit of an ILO delegation, headed by ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo at HSBC GCC on Tuesday in Gurugram, Dawra said that India is home to over 1,700 GCCs, employing 1.9 million professionals and generating USD 64.6 billion in revenue as of 2024, according to a labour ministry statement. Dawra further stated that the key GCC hubs are located in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Mumbai, and the National Capital Region (NCR). GCCs to create 450K new jobs in 2025 as companies plan to expand: Report

Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are expected to create 4.25-4.5 lakh new jobs this year and 1 million in the next six years, with 35 per cent of companies aiming for 50-100 per cent workforce expansion, a report said on Wednesday. According to the India GCC Growth Outlook 2024 report by global technology and digital talent solutions provider NLB Services, India has emerged as the top GCC destination fuelled by its vast skilled workforce and supportive policies. Across the country, GCCs are expected to generate 1 million jobs in the next six years while overall the sector is expected to employ 3.3 million professionals by 2030 (calendar year), said the report which is based on insights from 207 GCC decision-makers across 6 major cities and spanning 10 diverse sectors. Less than 2% of higher edu institutes offer work-linked degrees: Report

Only 2 per cent of the higher education institutions (HEIs) offer work-linked degrees despite high demand, a TeamLease EdTech survey said on Tuesday. The survey also said that over 85 per cent of students interviewed endorsed work-linked degrees as the future. However, less than 2 per cent of HEIs currently offer such programmes, which underscores an urgent need for change, it said Around 80 per cent of students believe that work experience on their CVs will improve their chances of securing high-paying jobs, and 40 per cent of the respondents identify financial independence as a key driver behind their preference for work-linked degrees, the report added. More than 4,500 international civil servants from 32 countries have visited India for mid-career capacity-building program on public policy and governance during 2014-24, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday. Capacity building program for international civil servants focuses on best practices and innovation in governance enabling dissemination and replication of India's good governance models in foreign countries, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply.
