India's renewable energy capacity grows 3-fold to 232GW in last decade

India has logged threefold growth in its renewable power capacity in the last decade, with the installed green energy capacity reaching 232GW, including large hydro power plants, currently compared to 75.52GW capacity in March 2014, official sources said. India has emerged as a global front runner in renewable energy space as the traiff of the grid-connected solar power plants has gone down by 80 per cent to Rs 10.95 per unit (for 170MW at Neemuch), sources said. In March 2014, India's installed solar energy capacity was 2.82 GW, which has crossed 108GW now, recording multifold growth. Wind energy capacity has more than doubled to 51GW presently from 21GW in 2014. Andhra CM Naidu seeks Centre's support for solar and defence projects

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday met three Union ministers here and sought the Centre's support for the state's renewable energy initiatives, a defence manufacturing hub proposal and a major water transfer project. In his meeting with Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Prahlad Joshi, Naidu requested for the allocation of rooftop solar capacity under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and urged expediting approval of the proposals submitted by state electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) in January. JSW Energy ink pacts to supply 1,200 MW solar-wind power to Maha discom

JSW Energy on Friday said that its two arms have signed agreements to supply 1,200 MW of power to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company. JSW Renew Energy Six Ltd and JSW Renew Energy Thirty Ltd, step-down subsidiaries of JSW Energy, have signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for state transmission utility (STU)-connected solar-wind hybrid capacity, according to a company statement. The agreements have been signed for two hybrid projects, each with a capacity of 600 MW, totalling 1,200 MW. The letters of award for these projects were received on August 29, 2024, and September 10, 2024, respectively, JSW Energy said. The projects are expected to be commissioned within 24 months, it said, adding that the agreements are set for a 25-year period at a tariff of Rs 3.60/kWh. Vikram Solar files draft papers to raise Rs 1,500 crore through IPO

Solar module maker Vikram Solar on Tuesday said it has filed draft papers with market regulator Sebi seeking permission to raise Rs 1,500 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The initial share sale will include fresh issues of equities worth up to Rs 1,500 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 17.45 million shares by its promoter group, the Kolkata-based firm said. The issue at a face value of Rs 10 each will include a fixed quota for eligible employees, alongside a discount for those participating in the employee subscription portion, according to the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) filed by the company. Besides, the company may also consider issuing specified securities up to Rs 300 crore as a "pre-IPO placement", it said. Of the total issue size, up to 50 per cent of shares will be allocated to qualified institutional buyers, 15 per cent to non-institutional bidders, and the remaining 35 per cent will be open for retail subscriptions by individual investors.
