No concerns on Bumrah, looks fine: official

India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah looks on track to recover from a shoulder injury he sustained during an IPL match against Delhi Capitals, an official said Monday. A vital cog in India's World Cup plans, Bumrah, playing for the Mumbai Indians, landed awkwardly on his left shoulder while fielding on Sunday night, causing concern in the Indian camp. The national team relies heavily on Bumrah, who has earned the reputation of being the world's best bowler in death overs. The Gujarat pacer did not come out to bat in Sunday's match, which added to the concerns about his injury. "He (Bumrah) looks fine. Last night after the match he was seen moving his hand without any stress," a source said when asked about Bumrah's injury status. The Mumbai Indians physiotherapist Nitin Patel was still assessing him. Bumrah has "recovered well", the Mumbai Indians team management had said last night. Mumbai Indians' next match is against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 28.

In fresh letter to Rathore, Manoj says shocked by charge that he hid injuries

Indian boxer Manoj Kumar has written to Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, rejecting allegations that he hid injuries in the run up to last year's Asian Games and reasserting that the system failed him when he needed it. A two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, Manoj is currently being treated for a groin injury in Mumbai. He had alleged that the Sports Authority of India did not cooperate in paying for his treatment, a charge that the SAI denied and instead accused him of hiding injuries. The allegations were made by his brother-cum-coach Rajesh Rajound in a letter to Rathore. Manoj has also now written to the Minister, stating that the charges made previously stand despite the rebuttal issued by SAI. "I am saddened by allegations that I hid injuries. In fact, I am shocked given that my struggles have never been a secret for them. I would like to tell them that I achieved what I did on the basis of merit. Yes, I lost in the Asian Games prelims but so did some others, why am .

Getting tougher mentally & physically is key to World Championship medal: Srikanth

Indian ace Kidambi Srikanth said it was irritating to lose close quarterfinals in a title-less season and stressed on the need to get physically and mentally tougher to win medals at the World Championship and Olympic Games. Srikanth, who had clinched four titles in 2017, lost nine quarterfinals and two semifinals while reaching the finals only once at the Commonwealth Games in the last 15 months. "I think the series of quarterfinals are more irritating for me than losing in the first round," Srikanth told reporters on the eve of the India Open, starting here Tuesday. "I think I have been consistent against a few players and then not able to get that win against a few others at quarterfinals and semifinals, that is what I'm working on -- to last the whole week. "Probably, if I can do well in next 3-4 months before the World Championship. If I can get better physically and tougher mentally, I think I can do well at World Championship," he added. Srikanth had suffered a leg injury at ...

Suspicion surrounds boxing decisions at 2016 Rio Olympics: report

An internal investigation by amateur boxing's world body AIBA has raised serious questions about the judging at the 2016 Rio Olympics, with particular suspicion falling on a French official, French newspaper Le Monde reported on Monday. France basked in the glow of six boxing medals in Rio, including golds for super heavyweight Tony Yoka and his now wife Estelle Mossely. But three days before the end of the Olympic tournament, boxing federation AIBA removed its then executive director Karim Bouzidi from his role because he was accused of favouring fighters from certain countries, according to Le Monde's report. Le Monde, which carried out the investigation with Bulgarian newspaper Bulgaria Today, said it had seen the internal AIBA report and emails that showed the body was concerned Bouzidi had influenced the decisions of so-called five-star judges in Olympic bouts. An email from AIBA's then-president Wu Ching-Ko dated November 18, 2016 said the body suspected Bouzidi of acting with ..

Malinga likely to play next two matches for Mumbai Indians

Lasith Malinga is likely to be available for the next two IPL matches for Mumbai Indians after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) softened its stance on the participation of the veteran pacer in a domestic ODI tournament. SLC had earlier announced that only those players would be eligible for selection in the World Cup squad, who would compete in Super Provincial One-Day domestic tournament, slated from April 4 to 11. The diktat had forced Malinga to make himself unavailable for Mumbai Indians' first six matches. However, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the SLC has changed its stance after a few calls by BCCI. SLC Chief selector Ashantha de Mel said that Malinga's place in the World Cup bound squad is guaranteed, so he is free to participate in the IPL. "We have no issues if he goes to IPL - the board had given him a no-objection certificate already, so he's free to go. Anyway he has been one of our best bowlers in one dayers, so there's no question about his place in the team," Mel ...

Zorc dismisses rumours linking Sancho to United

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has dismissed rumours that 19-year-old rising star Jadon Sancho is set for a move back to Manchester. English youngster Sancho has flourished since joining Dortmund from Manchester City two years ago, and recently signed a contract extension which keeps him at the German club until 2022. Yet Sancho, who picked up an assist in England's 5-0 thrashing of the Czech Republic on Friday, has been repeatedly linked with a return to the Premier League. A recent report in The Sun alleged that Sancho's agent was in talks with Manchester United, but Dortmund boss Zorc dismissed the rumours as "irrelevant". "I have no knowledge (of the talks), but it is also completely irrelevant," Zorc told Bild. In a recent interview with the same newspaper, Zorc admitted that it would be hard for Dortmund to hold on to Sancho long-term, but insisted that the youngster would remain at Dortmund next season. "I can't put a price tag around Jadon's neck but I can ...

Conceding last minute goal in India's mind ahead of clash against 'nemesis' Malaysia

Conceding last minute goals have continued to haunt India for long now and that's precisely what the team would look to avoid when it take on its 'new-found' nemesis Malaysia in its third league match of the Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament here Tuesday. After a not-so-convincing 2-0 win over Asian Games gold medallist Japan in the tournament opener, Manpreet Singh and his men conceded a goal in the final minute of the match to draw 1-1 against Korea on Sunday. India are currently placed third in the six-team standings with four points after a win and a draw. Hosts Malaysia are leading the chart with maximum points after 5-1 and 4-3 wins over Poland and Japan respectively. Korea are in the second position with four points, same as India, but they are ahead of the eight-time Olympic gold medallists owing to better goal difference. On Sunday, India were well on course to register their second consecutive win in the tournament after taking the lead in the 28th minute through Mandeep ...
