India to create 24 mn tech-savvy manpower for global markets: Foundit CEO

India is set to create 24 million tech-savvy skilled manpower for the global market in the next 3-5 years, according to Sekhar Garisa, CEO of Bengaluru-based Foundit, a job placement platform. Foundit is already working with 90 million registered jobseekers, 70 per cent, or 63 million, of whom are from Indian technology institutes, he said at the launch of the next-generation recruitment solution app in Singapore on Wednesday evening. "India remains one of our biggest sources of skilled manpower, especially the Indian technology institutes," he said. "Currently, 60 per cent of our job arrangements are in India, followed by 35 per cent in Southeast Asian countries and 5 per cent in the Middle East," he said. Over the next 3-5 years, the target is to create a database of 600 million skilled people from global talent hunt, 80 million of which will be from India, including the current 56 million or so, he estimated. The Karnataka government's annual global Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) will begin on Wednesday, bringing together tech leaders, startups, investors and research labs from 30-plus countries. Referring to the recently-announced draft National Deep Tech Startup Policy, Professor A K Sood, the principal scientific adviser to the government, has suggested that the clusters can effectively collaborate with the deep tech startups operating under this policy framework, according to an official statement. Sood was speaking at the first joint Science and Technology (S&T) Clusters' Meet in Rajasthan's Jodhpur. The meet concluded on Friday. India tech industry decentralising to 26 cities from 7 major hubs: Report

India's technology industry is decentralising from seven major hubs to 26 cities like Chandigarh, Nagpur and Kanpur as about 11-15 per cent of tech talent is based in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, says a report. The majority of the 5.4 million people employed in the technology industry in India have clustered around seven major cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, the report by Deloitte and Nasscom stated. India's tech industry is decentralising from the seven major hubs, including metropolitan hubs, to 26 cities, with representation from tier-2 and tier-3 towns as well, the 220-page report titled "Emerging technology hubs of India" stated. About 60 per cent of graduates come from smaller cities in key fields, 30 per cent of whom relocate to tier-1 cities for employment after graduation. Infosys Foundation US to provide Rs 1.6 cr to boost tech careers in Indiana

Philanthropic firm Infosys Foundation USA will provide USD 200,000 (about Rs 1.6 crore) to support tech careers in Indiana, it said in a statement on Tuesday. The funding is expected to help 5,000 residents of Indiana, commonly referred to as Hoosiers. The funds will be transferred to the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP) Foundation. CICP will, in turn, assist TechPoint -- Indiana's industry-led growth initiative for the technology ecosystem -- and Nextech and Indianapolis Public Schools, which will implement new tech-career programmes in central Indiana. "Infosys Foundation USA, a non-profit organisation focused on bridging the digital divide in America, announced a USD 200,000 investment to support Hoosiers in their pursuit of upskilling for tech careers," the statement said. "Overall, nearly 5,000 Hoosiers are expected to benefit from this programme, which aims to increase participation from historically under-represented populations," the statement said.
