A novel electronic tattoo made from stretchy, lightweight material could make heart health monitoring easier and more accurate than existing electrocardiograph machines, scientists say. Govt working on rules to enable shopkeepers, restaurants sell wifi services
The government is working on a framework to allow shopkeepers, restaurant and other small businessmen to retail WiFi services on a model similar to yesteryears public calling booths, a top official said Thursday. The model was suggested by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to set up Public Data Offices (PDOs) to enhance wifi hotspots across the country but it was put on the back burner due to opposition from telecom service providers. Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of an ITU-APT Foundation of India event, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said, "We will bring some architecture of PDOs." "Whether it will be exactly the same as Trai has recommended I don't know. But in principle, yes we will try to come up with an architecture. We do want to come with a large number of small infrastructure providers like kirana (grocery) stores etc," Sundararajan mentioned. Apple is reportedly looking at shifting 15-30 per cent of its manufacturing capacity out of China amid trade war with the US.According to a Nikkei report, Apple has asked its major suppliers to evaluate the cost implications of moving a significant chunk of the production capacity from China to Southeast Asia. The move follows US President Donald Trump's warning of 25 per cent tariff hike.China is Apple's top production base over the past two decades, carrying out more than 90 per cent assembling. NASA JPL systems accessed by hackers using rogue Raspberry Pi
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) systems were reportedly hacked by a Raspberry Pi that helped hackers crack into the weak security and steal data.As Engadget reports, investigators looking into a security breach found that an unauthorised Raspberry Pi was linked to the JPL network that was targeted by hackers in April 2018, allowing them to steal 500MB of data and also go deeper into JPL's network.The hackers also gained access to several major missions, including NASA's Deep Space Network. NASA has been recommended to fix all uncovered issues. However, it is yet to agree to establishing a formal threat-hunting process to find flaws in its systems.

Unauthorised persons barred from carrying mobile phones inside UP Vidhan Bhawan
The Uttar Pradesh government Thursday banned unauthorised persons from carrying mobile phones inside Vidhan Bhawan, which houses the state legislature complex, and all offices affiliated to the state secretariat. "The chief minister instructed officials to ensure that adequate security and cleanliness arrangements are in place in Vidhan Bhawan and at all the offices attached to the secretariat. Instructions were also issued to debar outsiders from bringing mobile phones inside these buildings," an official statement said. Concerned over sanitisation and security, the CM directed officials to have fool proof security check points in the secretariat and in other related offices, the statement said. "No unwanted person should enter any administrative office without the permission of the officials and mobile phones should be banned for unauthorised persons," the instructions said. The manner in which you lock your smartphone may reveal your age, according to a study unveiled Thursday which found that older users tend to rely more on auto lock feature compared to younger ones. Older smartphone users also prefer using PINs over fingerprints to unlock their phones, said researchers at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada. They also found that older users are more likely to unlock their phones when they are stationary, such as when working at a desk or sitting at home. The study is the first to explore the link between age and smartphone use, said Konstantin Beznosov, a professor at UBC, who supervised the research. "As researchers working to protect smartphones from unauthorised access, we need to first understand how users use their devices," said Beznosov. MoRTH issues draft notification to exempt battery operated vehicles from paying registration fees
In order to give a boost to battery-operated or electric vehicles in the country, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Wednesday initiated steps for providing differential registration fees under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.The amendment proposes to exempt battery-operated vehicles fees for issue or renewal of registration certificate and assignment of the new registration mark, an official statement said.This means that electric vehicles would be exempted from such registration charges. The exemption will apply to all categories of vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers.The Centre has been batting for electric vehicles as it will help in reducing India's dependence on oil imports, combating air pollution and will generate employment.
