Telangana suffers loss of Rs 5,438 crore due to heavy rains, floods: Govt

The Telangana Government has released an assessment report on the damages caused by heavy rains and floods in the state recently.Based on initial estimates, the total loss is Rs 5438 crore, as per the report released by the Telangana CMO on Monday.The losses have been estimated as -- Roads and Building Department -Rs 2,362 crore. Energy Department (damage to electrical installation) Rs 175 crore, crop loss (in 415000 acres) - Rs 415 crore, irrigation (repair to minor tanks) - Rs 629 crore.Further, the Panchayati Raj & Rural Development suffered a loss of Rs 170 crore, the Medical and Health Department- of Rs 12 crore, the Animal Husbandry Department suffered a loss of Rs 25 crore, the Municipal Administration suffered a loss of Rs 1150 crore and damages of public properties estimated up to Rs 500 crore, as per the report.110 relief camps were organized and more than 4000 people were shifted to these camps safely, it said.Meanwhile, due to incessant rains, the water level of the .

T'gana CM urges Centre to declare floods as national calamity as 16 die

At least 16 people lost their lives in various rain-related incidents, while some persons were still missing as heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana since August 31 even as Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to declare the floods in the state as a national calamity. Revanth Reddy, who visited flood victims and later held a review with ministers and officials at Khammam, said 16 people died, while crops in lakhs of acres suffered damage, as per preliminary information, despite the government's efforts to prevent loss of life and damage to property. He said he has written to PM Narendra Modi to declare the heavy rains and flood as a national calamity and to visit the flood-hit areas. He said as per preliminary estimates, the state suffered damage to the tune of Rs 5,438 crore due to the rains and floods. "I appeal to the Prime Minister. Telangana govt steps up relief, rescue measures following heavy rains

The Telangana government on Monday stepped up relief measures following heavy rains in the state which led to the death of at least nine people and inundation of low-lying areas. The affected people were shifted to relief camps at some places in the state. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will conduct a meeting with officials on the rain relief measures. People in several places in the state were grappling with the situation though there had been some let up in the rains on Monday morning. The flood victims at Khammam, as Munneru rivulet was in spate, said their belongings were washed away and that drinking water was not available to them. Some local residents provided them with food on Sunday, they said. They alleged that they had got no relief from the officials. Schools to remain closed in rain-affected areas in Hyderabad: Minister

Telangana Minister of Information and Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that all the private and government schools in the heavy rain affected areas in Hyderabad will remain closed.In a press conference on Sunday, Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that the District Collector will make the announcement to ensure the safety of the children."The District Collectors will declare schools to be closed at the places where there is heavy rains. 26 NDRF teams deployed for flood relief, rescue ops in Andhra, Telangana

Twenty-six National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are being deployed for flood relief and rescue operations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, officials said Monday. While 12 teams are already deployed in the two neighbouring states, 14 more are being dispatched, they said. Out of the 14 teams, eight are being airlifted from various locations across the country, the officials said. The NDRF teams are equipped with inflatables boats, pole and tree cutters and basic medical aid tools, they said. Torrential rains battered the two states for the second consecutive day, resulting in at least 10 more fatalities, flooding and waterlogging in several areas, and disruptions to road and rail traffic on Sunday. As many as 99 trains were cancelled, four trains were partially cancelled and 54 were diverted due to heavy rains and waterlogging over tracks at multiple locations on the South Central Railway network, an SCR official said. Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana in a bypoll. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Senior Vice President G Niranjan received the certificate of election on behalf of Singhvi from the returning officer here. Excise policy scam: BRS leader K Kavitha walks out of jail after 5 months

BRS leader K Kavitha, who was arrested in March this year, walked out of Tihar Jail here late Tuesday evening, hours after the Supreme Court granted her bail in corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. BRS workers and supporters who had gathered outside the jail to welcome her played drums and burst crackers as she stepped out of the prison complex.
