Quality of telecom service to suffer in Delhi due to NDMC new norms: DIPA

Quality of telecom services will deteriorate in central Delhi due to the new norms notified by New Delhi Municipal Corporation, telecom infrastructure body DIPA claimed on Saturday. Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) has opposed the charges for existing and new mobile towers as well as multiple layers of clearances on case to case basis notified by NDMC on June 22. "The quality of telecom connectivity is definitely going to be impacted and may also get deprived due to the restrictions imposed by the NDMC," DIPA said in a statement. NDMC has notified Rs 2 lakh non-interest bearing refundable security deposit at the time of initial granting of permission. Besides security deposit, NDMC has notified one-time permission charges in the range of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh for rooftop base stations. For ground base tower, NDMC has increased one time permission charges to Rs 3 lakh for 5 years from Rs 2 lakh earlier and notified Rs 25,000 for pole-based sites for five ...

Telcos service quality within set parameter, Airtel miss benchmarks: Trai

All telecom operators have been found compliant with benchmarks set around call drops but there may be a few areas where subscribers may be experiencing poor quality or service, telecom regulator Trai said on Monday. According to a report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on the quality of mobile phone services for March 2023, Airtel call centre service did not meet the service quality benchmark in almost all of the telecom circles. Customer care of BSNL and Vodafone Idea (VIL) failed to meet quality parameters in some circles. "It is pertinent to mention that though all the service providers have met the network service quality-related benchmarks but there may be a few pockets or some days where users might experience poor quality or service since these benchmarks are measured on an average basis and assessed over the entire LSA (license service area or telecom circle) for a given quarter," Trai said in the report. No special drive being undertaken to probe all past tariff plans: Trai

Telecom regulator Trai on Friday clarified the issue related to tariff plan verification, saying there is no special drive being undertaken by it to probe all the past tariff plans filed by telecom companies "except those specific plans under examination". On receipt of "specific complaints" of alleged predation by a few TSPs, the matter is under examination and "appropriate action as per regulatory provisions will be taken", the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in a clarificatory note. Trai said any tariff may be subjected to fresh examination as per the statutory mandate of the authority on receipt of a complaint of non-compliance to regulatory principles, including the allegation of predatory nature of tariff by any stakeholder, including telcos.
