Threads could help bring the center of internet culture back to Meta, once again making it a place where things happen first
Elon Musk may want to send tweet back to the birds, but the ubiquitous term for posting on the site he now calls X is here to stay at least for now. For one, the word is still plastered all over the site formerly known as Twitter. Write a post, you still need to press a blue button that says tweet to publish it. To repost it, you still tap retweet. But it's more than that. With tweets, Twitter accomplished in just a few years something few companies have done in a lifetime: It became a verb and implanted itself into the lexicon of America and the world. Upending that takes more than a top-down declaration, even if it is from the owner of Twitter-turned-X, who also happens to be one of the world's richest men. Language has always come from the people that use it on a day-to-day basis. And it can't be controlled, it can't created, it can't be morphed. You don't get to decide it, said Nick Bilton, the author of Hatching Twitter: A True Story of Money, Power, Friendship, and Betrayal

The billionaire owner's envisioned X app - which will connect Twitter's underlying infrastructure with x.com, a web address that now functions as a routing service to Twitter
Elon Musk-owned Twitter on Monday launched its new logo, X, which replaced the blue bird as part of a wider rebranding. The social media network's site and Twitter accounts showed the new logo, a white X on a black background. "Interim X logo goes live later today", the Twitter boss tweeted. He also wrote that the site x.com points to the Twitter website. Twitter's official account now reads "X", with a black background and the letter X in a white design. Elon Musk's official account also has the logo as his display picture and a small icon next to the blue tick, where the blue bird logo previously was. The new logo is the latest change that Musk has bought to the social media platform since he bought it for USD 44 billion last year. Under Musk's tumultuous tenure, the company has seen many changes including large-scale sackings, charges for previously free services, return of previously banned right-wing accounts and changes to content moderation. He has also changed its busines

A start-up receiving 3,000 job applications in 48 hours reflects how substantial the churn is
When Meta launched Threads, it was billed as a 'Twitter-killer' as 100 million signed up within days of launch. But just like other rivals to Twitter, Threads seems to be losing traction. New data apps tracking firm Sensor Tower indicates the hype has died down and Threads has seen a 20 per cent decrease in active users and a 50 per cent reduction in time spent on the app, from 20 minutes to 10 minutes. Twitter had seen about a 5 per cent decrease in traffic right after Threads' launch earlier this month. Threads isn't the only Twitter alternative to gain and lose traction. Mastodon saw millions of signups immediately after Elon Musk bought Twitter in a USD 44-billion deal. But since late last year, Mastodon has failed to keep users' interest. Bluesky, backed by Twitter's co-founder Jack Dorsey, has also piqued some interest but hasn't really caught up. Twitter has built its reputation around live breaking news, making it the go-to platform for millions during events -- political

The National Commission for Women (NCW) said Thursday it has formally directed Twitter India to remove a video that shows the "disgraceful act" of two women being paraded naked and assaulted in the violence-hit Manipur. Tension mounted in the hills of Manipur after the May 4 video surfaced on Wednesday showing the two women from one of the warring communities being paraded naked by a group of men from the other side. "NCW has formally directed the Head, Public Policy at @TwitterIndia to remove the video showing the disgraceful act of two women being paraded naked.
