The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations on Thursday asked for the reduction in GST rates on entry-level two-wheelers to 18 per cent, saying the segment has not recovered from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking at the Auto Retail Conclave here, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President Manish Raj Singhania said in the ongoing fiscal so far, while the retail sales of total vehicles have grown by around 7 per cent, the entry-level two-wheeler segment is yet to witness the robust growth seen. Turning to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who was the chief guest at the function, he said, "That's why FADA strongly urges honourable minister to help us get a reduction in GST rate from 28 per cent to 18 per cent for entry-level two-wheelers that is the 100cc and 125cc segment." Hero MotoCorp to hike two-wheeler prices by around 1.5% from next month

Two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Friday said it will hike prices of its motorcycles and scooters by around 1.5 per cent from July 3, citing several factors, including a rise in input costs. The company, which raised prices by around 2 per cent in April this year, said the exact quantum of its latest increase would vary by specific models and markets. "The upward revision of the prices of motorcycles and scooters is part of the price review that the company undertakes from time to time, keeping in mind various factors like price positioning, input costs and business imperatives," it added. Hero MotoCorp further said it will continue with innovative financing programmes to minimise the impact on the customers. "The onset of monsoon in most parts of the country and overall economic indicators bode well for a growth in demand, and industry volumes are expected to pick up, leading into the upcoming festive season," it added.

Automobile dealers' body seeks cut in GST on two-wheelers from 28% to 18%

Automobile dealers' body FADA on Thursday sought a cut in GST on two-wheelers from 28 per cent to 18 per cent, saying the segment being essential for millions should not be categorised as luxury item. The industry body said it has appealed to the finance minister, chair of the GST Council, all GST Council members, the ministry of heavy industries, which supervises the automobile sector, and the ministry of road transport & highways. This timely and decisive intervention would help in making two-wheelers more affordable, reviving demand and reinvigorating an industry that has seen a significant slump in sales over the past few years, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) said in a statement. "The two-wheeler industry is at a critical juncture, grappling with unprecedented challenges such as rising inflation, stringent emission norms and the post Covid-19 effects. Now is the opportune moment for the GST Council to reduce the GST rate on two-wheelers, making them ..
