Had productive meeting with officials of India Enquiry Committee, says US

The United States had a productive meeting with visiting officials of the India Enquiry Committee, a State Department official said on Wednesday, adding they were satisfied with the cooperation from the Indian side. We are satisfied with the cooperation. It continues to be an ongoing process. We continue to work with them on that, but we do appreciate the cooperation and we appreciate them updating us on their investigation as we update them on ours, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters at his daily news conference. He was responding to a question on the visit of officials from the India Enquiry Committee, which is investigating the American allegations of involvement of an Indian official in the assassination plot of a Sikh separatist, who is also an American citizen. The meeting that occurred yesterday we updated we being the US government broadly updated members of the Committee of Inquiry about the investigation that the United States has been ...

India taking allegations of plot to kill American citizen seriously: US

India has stated it is taking seriously the allegations of a plot to kill an American citizen, the United States on Tuesday said as a team of visiting Indian officials had a meeting with the officials of the State Department and Department of Justice here. I don't have a readout on the meeting yet. The meeting was here as a follow-up on conversations we have been having with the Government of India at the senior-most levels over the past several months, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters at his daily news conference. They have told us that they are taking the allegations seriously, that the activities contained in the DOJ indictment do not represent government policy, Miller said in response to a question. So the meeting that happened this week or that is happening today by India's inquiry was to discuss their active investigation into the matter, for us to update them on our active investigation into the matter, and to continue to share sides about steps .

India not cooperating with Canada on Nijjar killing investigations: US

India is not cooperating with Canada on the latter's investigation into the killing of a Sikh separatist last year, the United States alleged Tuesday. When it comes to the Canadian matter, we have made clear that the allegations are extremely serious and they need to be taken seriously. We wanted to see the government of India cooperate with Canada in its investigation. Obviously, they have not chosen that path, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters at his daily news conference. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a day earlier alleged that officials of the Indian government were involved in the assassination of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last June in Surrey. The RCMP has clear and compelling evidence that agents of the Government of India have engaged in, and continue to engage in, activities that pose a significant threat to public safety. This includes clandestine information gathering techniques, coercive behaviour targeting South Asian ...

US and India can work together on mental health: Surgeon General Murthy

US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy has said that mental health is an issue on which his country and India can work together, so that it not only benefits the two countries, but the entire world. He said it is time to prioritise and accelerate the work on mental health, because the consequences have been too high, and they will only get worse unless we make this issue a priority. "I'll just say this (mental health) is an issue where the US and India can work together, where we can learn from each other, where we can collaborate on programmes, where we can support each other, as we have in the past for six decades, on so many health issues," Murthy told reporters here on Friday. He said he was proud of the US-India health partnership for six decades, during which both countries have worked on smallpox, polio, HIV, tuberculosis and Covid-19, and many other health challenges. "This is a time for us to come together as two nations, to work on the issue of mental health, and the work tha

US sanctions Indian firm along with others for illicitly carrying Iran oil

An Indian shipping firm is among the dozen-odd companies sanctioned by the US for allegedly carrying Iranian oil for sale to buyers in Asia days after slapping restrictions targetting Iran's energy trade for its October 1 attack on Israel. Gabbaro Ship Services, the India-based company, was involved in the transport of Iranian petroleum as the technical manager of crude oil tanker Hornet and knowingly engaged in a significant transaction for the transport of petroleum from Iran as part of a 'Ghost Fleet', the State Department alleged. The latest American sanctions against several companies across the world comes in response to Iran's October 1 ballistic missile attack against Israel. This attack targeted Israel's most populated city, Tel Aviv, and could have killed hundreds if not thousands of innocent people, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said. Following that attack, the US had made it clear that Iran would face severe consequences, he said, and added, the Departments

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Thursday said that the two largest democracies in the world share a vision of using technology to connect and protect their people, and as a force for good. Speaking at the US-India Science and Technology Endowment Fund 2024 Awards Reception, he said the two countries have been investing in the next generation of "magicians who will conjure up the solutions this world so badly needs". "India and the US have a vision of technology that can connect and protect their people and be used as a force for good. The endowment fund is bringing together innovators because, as I often say, the Indian dream is the flip side of the American dream, and vice versa, and we really like each other," Garcetti said. He said that the US and India are setting new records in student partnerships, military sales, and joint exercises. "Last year, India became the number one source of students to institutions in the United States. We announced a new quad fellowship tha
