Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the state at a high-level meeting with officials, and said that the situation in the state is normal amid the rising cases in various countries. He also directed the officials to closely monitor the "changing trends" of coronavirus and to conduct genome sequencing of the new cases. Adityanath reviewed the situation in the state during the meeting with Team-9, a team of senior officials and ministers constituted for Covid management, and gave necessary guidelines, according to an official statement. The chief minister said that the situation in UP is normal amid the rising number of Covid cases in various countries, the statement said. More than 9.06 lakh tests were done in the month of December, of which 103 cases were found to be positive. The positivity rate of the state was recorded at 0.01 per cent during this period. The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on January 4 the Uttar Pradesh government's appeal challenging an Allahabad High Court order quashing its draft notification on urban local body elections and directing it to hold the polls without reservation for other backward classes. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha took note of the submissions of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state government, saying the matter needed an urgent hearing. "We will take it the day after tomorrow," the bench said. The Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) on Thursday said it disposed of roughly 9,300 consumer complaints in 2022, on an average 25 cases daily. The UP RERA was established in 2017 to regulate the fast-growing real estate sector, bring transparency, protect the interest of homebuyers and ensure speedy resolutions of disputes of consumers and builders. In a statement, the UP RERA said it lodged approximately 6,900 complaints in 2022 and disposed of almost 9,300 complaints of aggrieved allottees. "Maximum complaints had been registered in the month of March 2022 - 695. In the month of December 2022 only 320 complaints have been registered, the lowest in 2022," it added. The authority said it has received approximately 47,000 consumer complaints, which is about 38 per cent of the total complaints filed across the country. The Union Home Ministry has given its consent to change the names of two places in Uttar Pradesh following recommendations from the state government, officials said on Tuesday. The 'no-objection' certificates were issued by the ministry for changing the name of municipal council 'Mundera Baazar' in Gorakhpur district to 'Chauri-Chaura' and that of 'Telia Afghan' village in Deoria district to 'Telia Shukla', an official said. The home ministry considers proposals for name change according to the existing guidelines, in consultations with agencies concerned. It gives a 'no-objection' certificate to change the name of any place after taking consent from the Ministry of Railways, Department of Posts and the Survey of India, another official said. For changing the name of a village, town or a city, an executive order is needed. Renaming of a state requires an amendment of the Constitution with a simple majority in Parliament, the official added.
