World Bank President Ajay Banga will visit Uttar Pradesh on Friday to witness the remarkable transformation of Uttar Pradesh, the state government said on Thursday. Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday declared Red Alert in the state following 'Operation Sindoor' by the armed forces against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), UP DGP said on Wednesday. In retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes early Wednesday on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base Muridke. State-owned NHAI has decided to go for a conciliation process on the financial dispute with bankrupt Jaiprakash Associates Ltd concerning Varanasi Gorakhpur road projects. In the ongoing dispute, Jaiprakash Associates has sought Rs 1,461.63 crore compensation for 'four laning of Varanasi Gorakhpur Section of NH-29 from Km 14B.000 to Km 20B. 300 in Uttar Pradesh under NHDP Phase-IV on EPC Mode. "The company has submitted its claims amounting to Rs 1,461.63 crore on account of deployment of resources for removal of encroachment/ encumbrances within ROW, damages for delay in providing land, damages towards payment of revised minimum wages paid and additional cost incurred due to extended duration of the project," Jaiprakash Associates Ltd said in a regulatory filing. Coal India signs MoU with UPRVUNL to set up solar power plant in UP

State-owned CIL on Monday said it has signed an MoU with UPRVUNL to set up a 500 MW solar power project in Uttar Pradesh. The development is a part of initiatives of Coal India Ltd in the green energy space and to meet the growing energy demand of Uttar Pradesh. "Coal India Ltd (CIL) and UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) have executed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 5, 2025 at Lucknow with an intent of setting of 500 MW Solar Power project in Uttar Pradesh," CIL said in a filing to BSE. Couple dies in fire at Kanpur five-storey building, 3 children feared dead

A 45-year-old man and his wife died in a massive fire that broke out at a five-storey building in Chamanganj area of Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, police said on Monday. Huge flames engulfed the entire building located in the Prem Nagar area. The five-storey structure houses a shoe manufacturing factory on its first and second floors, they said. The police said that seeing the intensity of the blaze the couple's three daughters -- Sara (15), Simra (12), and Inaya (7) -- are also feared dead. The bodies of Mohammad Danish and his wife Nazneen Saba (42) were recovered from the fourth floor of the building, officials said. Uttar Pradesh govt approves Rs 200 crore for flood protection projects

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved Rs 200 crore for flood protection projects in the vulnerable districts ahead of the monsoon season, officials said on Sunday. According to an official statement, the funds will focus on strengthening the embankments along the Saryu, Ganga, Rapti and Rohin rivers. The irrigation department has been directed to urgently implement the state and NABARD-funded projects, which include building RCC pillars, embankment repairs, anti-erosion measures, and setting up new pumping stations, the statement said. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised timely completion of the projects and zero tolerance for negligence, it added. The key projects include allocations for pumping stations and embankment work at Gorakhpur, bridge replacements at Amethi, embankment strengthening at Shravasti, slope pitching at Azamgarh, anti-erosion measures at Ghazipur, protection work at Bulandshahr, and embankment construction at Sitapur, the statement said.

Police have arrested a man for allegedly breaking into Seema Haider's house here on Saturday, officials said. He claimed that she had done "black magic" on him. Police identified the accused as Tejas, a resident of Surender Nagar in Gujarat. They said that Tejas seemed "mentally disturbed" and tried to enter Seema's residence around 7 pm. All but one Pak citizen sent back from UP after Pahalgam attack: State govt

All Pakistani citizens, barring one, have been "expelled" from Uttar Pradesh under the Centre's orders after the Pahalgam terror attack, the state government said on Monday. UP aims to triple exports to Rs 5 trn in five years with help of new policy

Uttar Pradesh is working on a policy to promote exports and triple the outbound shipment from the state to over Rs 5 lakh crore in the next five years by tapping new markets and products. To achieve the target, the state government is working on a new export policy for 2025-30 which is expected to be approved soon. The thrust of the new policy would be to increase exports three times by 2030 from Rs 1.7 lakh crore in 2023-24 through host of measures including capital subsidy and sops for exporters, UP Minister for Industrial Development and Export Promotion Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi said.
